Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2, episode 6!The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon showrunner David Zabel explained Season 3’s location change, revealing why it was decided for Daryl and Carol’s future. Daryl Dixon Season 2 ended with Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) still traveling to return home, after saving Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi) by flying him to America with Ash (Manish Dayal). Season 3 will show the stranded duo heading not only to England, as established in the finale, but also to Spain, something revealed in the latest trailer for the upcoming episodes.
Talking to The Hollywood ReporterZabel explained the reasoning behind this change of location, saying Daryl Dixon should feature your main characters traveling to different locations like “a road show“ as they try to get home. It indicates what Spain will be like”reinventing the show“thanks to their new location. He also indicated that as long as the show continues to be renewed, he will be able to see the duo in many new countries yet to be announced. Check out what Zabel had to say below:
Characters must not calm down. It should be a road show. They have to keep moving [to return home]. At the end of season two, they’re going somewhere. We don’t know exactly where, and there’s no direct line to where they’re going next. But the idea is to keep the characters fighting and trying to get home and move out. [Exploring a new culture is] It’s going to be so exciting to reinvent the show. It seemed like all signs pointed to us keeping moving and getting to the next place. In seasons five and six, it could be a different place. They’ll keep moving until they get home!
What David Zabel’s statement means for Daryl Dixon’s future
Spain could be the beginning of a bigger journey
Details in Daryl Dixon Season three remains sparse, except that Daryl and Carol will make a long stop in Spain on the way back to America. This will include the introduction of new characters and fights they will be involved in, just as Daryl has become heavily connected to the Nest and Power conflict in France. It seems that their travels will not only provide many interesting adventures for them, but also highlight how the zombie apocalypse has impacted parts of the world differently.
Although a sequel has not been confirmed at this time, Zabel has ideas for Daryl Dixon the location of Season 4, with this latest statement reflecting how long the series could last. If Daryl and Carol actually have a journey ahead of them that could last until Season 6so your travels may also include countries outside of Europe, depending on where your adventure takes you. This change of location could be a drastic change for the show and Daryl Dixoncharacters, but also offers a lot of potential to evolve in the future.
Our Take on Daryl Dixon Season 3 Changing Locations to Spain
The program’s new formula could introduce interesting dynamics
Daryl DixonThe show’s new direction means the series likely won’t see new characters introduced for more than a season or two at most. However, it allows Daryl and Carol to act as conduits to see new perspectives on the apocalypse, emphasizing the different locations they arrive at and how they each deal with the zombies in different ways. This could allow for a unique, almost Western-inspired story structure that takes the show in a multitude of creative directions, both in Spain and elsewhere.
