What happened in Blue Box episode 5?

Taiki and Chinatsu progress by swimming in the aquarium

While Taiki wins a close match against Shoichiro Kishi in Blue Box episode #5, it becomes apparent that he will go to the aquarium with Chinatsu as per her agreement with Kyo Kasahara. As Taiki ponders what to wear, how to behave, and what to expect from the aquarium encounter, Chinatsu seems to put his worries aside as the two spend a charming and relaxing time together.. Among the souvenirs of the date are a penguin pendant that Chinatsu puts in her bag and a commemorative penguin sticker that Taiki suggests the two send to each other via SMS if they need to talk.

It’s clear that the two are building a relationship of mutual trust, so Chinatsu’s apology to Taiki about his comments in the previous episode about taking extra time to improve his badminton game says that they value their connection. Although Chinatsu doesn’t understand that his words bother Taiki because they remind him that she will leave school a year before himhe appreciates how caring she is. This gives Taiki a lot to talk about, and as Kyo points out later, it’s a reason for him to wonder if Chinatsu has mutual feelings for Taiki.

But soon, Chinatsu finds Hina at the clinic, where Hina sees the charm of the aquarium, and the two discuss Taiki and his general altruism. While Hina spends her time talking to Taiki with Chinatsu, Chinatsu reads as Hina having potential feelings for the boythat, as Blue Box suggests throughout episode 5, it’s not a distant possibility. This will be explored soon when Hina sees Chinatsu leave straight for the Inomata residence, leaving her surprised to discover that they are close enough to spend time under the same roof outside of school, let alone live together.
