Notice! This article contains SPOILERS for Tulsa King, season 2, episode 8.The main attraction of King of Tulsa is seeing Sylvester Stallone play a gangster, but the most recent episode proved that his character, Dwight Manfredi, isn’t actually a mobster. Functionally, of course, Dwight is a gangster. He runs several criminal enterprises, he commands or fights most of the cast of King of Tulsa Season 2, and he rules Tulsa with an iron fist. While he certainly acts like a gangster, Dwight isn’t the same as your average mob boss, and a moment he shared with Tyson (Jay Will) after the end of King of Tulsa Season 2 Episode 7 proves how different it is.
Tyson made a huge mistake by attacking Bill Bevilaqua (Frank Grillo). He didn’t wait for Dwight to find concrete evidence and ended up attacking the wrong person. It also led directly to the gang war, although Tyson wasn’t solely to blame for that. King of Tulsa season 2 war. Tyson’s actions had some far-reaching unintended consequences, and by the end of King of Tulsa Season 2, episode 8, the first victim had already been shot: Jimmy the Creek (Glen Gould). Despite all these consequences, however, Tyson escaped with just a stern talking to.
Dwight’s decision to forgive Tyson for attacking Bill Bevilaqua shows he is no ordinary gangster
A normal gangster would have killed Tyson, but Dwight is building a found family
Even though Tyson made a huge mistake in attacking Bill Bevilaqua, Dwight forgave him extremely easily. He told Tyson that he is “part of a family“and that they would protect him”even when you’re wrong.” Dwight’s decision to forgive Tyson proves that he is not really a gangster: a normal mob boss would have had Tyson killed for disobeying a direct order and starting a gang war. The Invernizzi family, for example, tried to kill Dwight in prison just because they thought he might have reported Pete to the police. A normal gang would only call themselves family, but Dwight truly loves his group like they are his family.
Dwight not being a gangster is paradoxically one of the best parts of Tulsa King
Tulsa King showed Sylvester Stallone’s emotional range and acting skills
Even though Sylvester Stallone plays a big gangster in King of Tulsathe fact that Dwight isn’t a real mob boss is one of the best things about the series. Because Dwight is building a real family, rather than a simple criminal organization that calls itself a family, both King of Tulsa and Stallone are capable of incredibly moving emotional moments. Stallone turned in some of his best, most vulnerable performances in decades, playing Dwight, and King of Tulsa had the chance to tell a great story about a man trying to make up for his dark past and start a new family after a massive betrayal.
Dwight’s emotional attachment to his family is also one of the many reasons King of Tulsa it only got better with time. Many viewers likely tuned in to see Stallone’s successful proposals, make offers that can’t be refused, and more. While the gangster scenes are why you start watching King of Tulsaemotions are why you invest in Dwight and his family, both in his relationship with Tina (Tatiana Zappardino) and his relationship with his gang. If Dwight was just a regular mobster, King of Tulsa It wouldn’t be as special as it is.
