Everything Star Wars Canon Revealed About Master Yoda’s Origins and History

Master Yoda remains a rather mysterious figure in Star Warsbut the franchise revealed these canon facts about him. Few Jedi in Star Wars movies and TV shows have the legacy that Yoda has. In addition to being one of the Star Wars Most powerful Jedi, Yoda was a highly respected and even revered Jedi Master who served on the Jedi Council for centuries..

The exact details of this story are unknown, as there are only estimates and hints about how long Yoda was on the Jedi Council. Likewise, Master Yoda Star Wars The species remains a mystery in the franchise, which was very intentional by George Lucas, who did not want the details of this species to be known. It is evident that Star Wars wants to maintain Yoda’s status as an enigma, but Star Wars Canon has revealed some details about the origins of the curious Jedi Master.

We know who Yoda’s Jedi master is said to have been

Legends of Master Yoda Jedi Master N’Kata Del Gormo was recently reintroduced into the Star Wars Canon in a new Star Wars book. Star Wars: Mace Windu: The Glass Abysswritten by Steven Barnes, references Del Gormo for the first time in Star Wars canon (since Disney bought Star Wars and relegated most of the stories from the Expanded Universe, including Del Gormo’s, to Legends). In The Glass AbyssMace Windu reveals that N’Kata Del Gormo may have been one of Yoda’s Jedi mentors.

Interestingly, Mace Windu isn’t sure if this was the case, which suggests that even in-universe among the Jedi – including the Jedi who worked closely with Yoda – his story is largely a mystery. However, this reference canonizes N’Kata Del Gormo and suggests he may have a similar story in Star Wars Canon and Legends, including his relationship with Yoda. It’s also interesting to note that in Legends, Yoda had several Jedi mentors.which may also be true in canon. This raises some questions about who his only Jedi Master could have been.

Even in the universe among the Jedi – including the Jedi who worked closely with Yoda – their history is largely a mystery.

We saw Yoda’s first training lightsaber in The Young Jedi Adventures

In Young Jedi Adventures, Yoda gave his first training lightsaber to a young man

Yoda's first lightsaber in Star Wars Young Jedi Adventures

In “The Young Jedi/Yoda’s Mission”, the first episode of the animated series Star Wars show Star Wars: Adventures of Young Jedi, Yoda gives his first training lightsaber to a young man named Kai Brightstar, with whom Yoda is particularly impressed.. Kai showed exceptional bravery in a confrontation with a pirate and chose to let the pirate take his own lightsaber to focus on saving his companion, Nubs, who was precariously dangling from a rope at the back of a ship. Initially, Kai believes Yoda will be upset to learn he lost his saber.

Yoda surprises Kai by telling him that he did the right thing. After praising the “selfless choice” Kai did, Yoda tells him, “You helped others. That’s the Jedi way.” It is then that Yoda reveals his lightsaber, telling Kai that this was his first training lightsaber since when he was Kai’s age. Not only is it an emotional moment between Yoda and a cub, it’s also surprising. Yoda would have been Kai’s age long before the show, meaning he held the saber for centuries.

How old was Yoda when he started teaching Jedi?

Yoda trained Jedi for centuries before the Prequel trilogy

Yoda’s shocking cameo The Acolyte revealed that, 100 years before Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom MenaceYoda was already a wise Jedi Master whose guidance was highly regarded. His history of Jedi training extended far beyond that time period, however. Based on Yoda’s age in Star Wars films, Yoda trained Jedi for approximately 800 years.

Yoda was born in 896 BBY (before the Battle of Yavin) and began training Jedi in 796 BBY.according to the Star Wars Timelines canonical sourcebook, written by Kristin Baver, Jason Fry, Cole Horton, Amy Richau, and Clayton Sandell. This confirms that Yoda was 100 years old when he began training Jedi. How he was 900 years old when he died in the original Star Wars trilogy (during which he also trained Luke Skywalker), this means he spent an impressive 800 years training Jedi.

This also means that there are centuries of stories about Master Yoda that have yet to be told. It is not clear whether Star Wars will tell these stories, although it’s obvious that Yoda remains a character of great interest, as he continues to appear in shows like The Acolyte and Star Wars Rebels. Despite his many appearances thus far, Master Yoda remains a bit of a mystery in Star Warsbut the franchise has revealed at least some details of its canonical history.
