Why My Hero’s New Characters Are a Mixed Bag
As with previous movies, My Hero Academia: You are next is built largely around its original heroes and villains, and the ones introduced here are excellent characters for the most part. For starters, while the Gollini family isn’t all that developed compared to the anime’s villains, My Hero Academia: You are next Spend enough time on the Gollini family to give them all unique and engaging personalitiesWith Deborah, Paula and Bruno especially featured in this regard. It made each villain feel like a fully realized character, and they were all fun to watch because of it.
For the heroes, Giulio was also a great addition to the cast. Not only was it refreshing to see a movie character take part in the fight for a change, but between his great character design, tragic backstory and the fun dichotomy between his polite demeanor and his violent nature, Giulio is one of the most entertaining original characters ever introduced in a My hero academia Film. Much of that was great about You’re no further Came from the great writing around Giulio, and it made a strong and dynamic arc for the film from start to finish.
If any original character detracts from the film, however, it is Anna Cervino. The story is structured in a way that prevents Anna from doing much as Izuku and Giulio try to save her, but with how little time is spent on her as a character while she is brainwashed or losing control of her quirk, Anna Cervino is the least interesting part of My Hero Academia: You are next For being little more than a typical damsel in distressAnd since so much of the film revolves around her, her presence drags things down far more than it should.
My Hero Academia: Her Next has some of the best action in the anime
A superb film from start to finish
My hero academiaThese films are known for their impressive artwork and animation, and luckily, You’re no further is no different in this regard. Every scene in the film features a lot of great artwork, animation and overall direction, the film’s opening theme is essentially just an excuse to show what the viewers are in for, and it all builds in My Hero Academia: You are next With two separate, but equally superb climactic fights against Dark Might. From a purely visual standpoint, the film is one of the best in the franchise, and it’s a lot of fun to watch just for that.
A lot of what makes this film look as good as it does stems from its director, Tensai Okamura. While Okamura has only recently gotten involved with My hero academiaHe is a seasoned director with decades of experience; the main thing My Hero Academia: You are nexts Tensai Okamura famously created both 2003s Wolf’s rain and 2007s Darker than blackTwo of Bones’ most celebrated projects that are also known for their stunning direction and animation. Okamura is one of the most talented and experienced animators associated with Bones, and his work is undoubtedly the biggest reason why the film looks so good.
The new My Hero Academia movie has one of the best villains in anime
Why Dark Soul is such a great villain
Another big selling point of My Hero Academia: You are next Is its main villain, Waldo Gollini called Dark Mate. True to his role as an evil version of All Might, Dark Might constantly uses the over-the-top mannerisms of All Might’s hero persona like dramatic posing and free English, even when it doesn’t make sense and everyone else is trying to be As serious as possible. Add a quirk just as overpowered as one for all, and Dark Might works as a villain because of how well he flips All Might’s goofiness on its head to be a wonderfully over-the-top villain.
Even better than Dark Might’s personality, of course, is where he stands as a villain ideologically. Dark Might is under the mistaken belief that All Might was a great hero simply because he was strong, something he repeatedly told was false, so Fighting Dark Might forces Izuku and his friends to immediately reinforce All Might’s ideals and keep them from being perverted. The film doesn’t dwell on this as much as it should, but what is done with it goes a long way to making Dark Might one of the best villains in all of anime.
The new story of My Hero Academia Perfect in its final arc
Like my hero Academia: You are next to fit in the story
One of the main points of US My hero academiaThe final arc is the heroes needing to take a final stand as the world falls into chaos, and with the film revolving around a new group of villains trying to use the chaos as an excuse to take over, My Hero Academia: You are next Does a great job of extending the main story from the final arc. The film also references where it fits into canon far more often than previous films, and the practice does a great job of emphasizing that idea.
This idea is also another reason why Dark Might is such a great villain for the film. Dark Might’s goal of becoming the new symbol of peace is a call for society to regress as opposed to advance, something at the heart of the final story arc, so Fighting dark mite is another way for My hero academia To reinforce the idea that hero society needs to change. The film preserves the thematic elements of My hero academiaIt’s final arc on all fronts, and overall, it’s great to watch it play out.
Although the characters and overall writing may not get as much depth as they could, with the depth they are given, combined with the flawless animation and thematic elements, My Hero Academia: You are next Has one of the best handling of action and story of any My hero academia Film to date. My Hero Academia: You are next Is great for anyone who wanted the series to go out with more bang, and any fan of the series would be reliable to pass it.
