THE Civilization series is a classic for many, and Civilization 7 by Sid Meier is set to continue that long legacy. With a release date of February 11, 2025, anyone looking to secure a copy of the game at launch may be thinking about pre-ordering the game soon. Three digital options available for pre-order offer different advantagesbut deciding between them could be difficult, as publisher 2K Games has yet to reveal all the details about what will be included.
In each edition, Civilization 7 brings a variety of new features to the table while retaining many of the series’ classics. The game introduces new features like ‘personas’, which show the various goals and personalities of the leaders and the ability to select a new civilization in each new era. Gwendoline Christie will voice the game’s main narrator, marking the first time a woman has taken on this important role in the series.
How much does Civ 7 Founders Edition cost
Price varies between platforms
Civilization 7 has three digital versions available for pre-order, and the most expensive of the three is the Founders Edition. Interestingly, the price of the Founders Edition is not the same across all platforms, with a $10 difference between the Nintendo Switch edition and all other platforms. On PC, Xbox and PlayStation, it sells for US$129.99, while on the Nintendo eShop it costs US$119.99, both tax free.
This approach extends to all editions, as the Deluxe and Standard editions have the same price difference on the Nintendo Switch. There is no official explanation for the price difference, but it could be due to reduced graphics quality for it to work on the device. Regardless of platform, the Founders Edition offers a substantial amount of additional content, differentiating it from the other editions available and justifying its current price as the highest digital tier. The Founders Edition also offers a 5-day early access periodthat the Deluxe Edition shares.
Tiered pricing tiers are nothing new for the Civilization series, although the Founders Edition is more ambitious than previous deluxe digital releases. It is also a limited time offer as the Founders Edition will be removed from sale on February 28, 2025. Consequently, there is no hope of a price drop in the future, although most of the included DLC may later get individual discounts.
All in-game items and add-ons in the Founders Edition
Is the price tag worth buying?
THE Civilization 7 The Founders Edition adds many in-game bonuses, some of which are expected to be substantial content additions to the game. The biggest feature is in extra civilizations and leaders, some of which are shared with the $89.99 Deluxe Edition. The Tecumseh and Shawnee Pack adds the Shawnee civilization and its leader, which should be available at launch, while the Crossroads of the World Collection and Right to Rule Collection will add more substantial post-launch content.
Both post-launch collections are expected to include two leaders, four civilizations, four wonders, a cosmetic bonus, and more. Crossroads of the World is also featured in the Deluxe Edition, while Right to Rule is just a bonus in the Founders Edition. The post-launch content timeline is not yet set, but the Right to Rule Collection is planned to be available in September 2025.
Other additions to the game focus more on cosmetics and small content differences. The Deluxe Content Pack and Founders Content Pack each include two leader personas and four profile customizations. The Deluxe pack adds an alternate scout skin as the icing on the cake, while the Founders pack adds a fog of war tileset and a Founders palace skin.
All in the Founders Edition
What to expect from this edition
Unfortunately, 2K Games has not yet released details about all additional content, but only a rough guide to the range of items players can expect to receive when purchasing the Founders Edition. Although the game is expected to have 31 civilizations at launch, not all of them have yet been revealed. Additionally, a collection is only available in the Founders version at this point and will only be available in advance when it launches in September. This specific edition appeals to members of Civilizationthe long-term dedicated fan base who want to experience the game to the fullest.
Meanwhile, although the game will be fully released in February, Founders Edition buyers won’t receive their main content until the fall. For those who prefer physical collectibles over digital rewards, opting for a physical Collector’s Edition offers a “Passage of Time“watch along with other bonuses, with the main caveat that the game itself is not included. That said, these are all the exact items that come with the package, with all the information that is currently available.
