Star Wars confirms that Luke Skywalker’s black Mandalorian robes are his official post-original trilogy uniform

When Luke Skywalker made his return to live action in The MandalorianAt the end of season two, he also introduced the world to a new black costume, complete with cape and hood. Now it seems that Star Wars confirms This will be your new canonical ‘missionary uniform’ post-Return of the Jedi wasas a full-fledged Jedi Knight. It’s a striking look, especially when paired with Skywalker’s emerald blade.

Luke Skywalker’s black robes, including cowl and cape, return triumphantly in Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku – Rise of the Insurgency #3 by creative team Alex Segura, Leonard Kirk, Jethro Morales, Rachelle Rosenberg and Joe Caramagna. After a mission goes wrong, a team of Rebel spies sent by Princess Leia to gather information on Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard is captured. After the team’s attempted escape from Adelhard’s star destroyer, they are thwarted by Commander Bragh and face even more trouble when a mysterious Inquisitor arrives.

Fortunately, unbeknownst to the Rebel spies, Luke Skywalker also arrives on Adelhard’s star destroyer, beautifully mirroring the hallway scene in The Mandalorian and wearing the same black hooded outfitto save the day.

As fans of Star Wars You know from the trilogy, Luke Skywalker first wore his black robes with hood and cape during the Rescue of Han Solo. The next time Luke dons the cowl and cape will be in The Mandalorian second season. In the latter, the mysterious faceless Jedi Knight ignites his lightsaber as he walks through the halls of Moff Gideon’s Imperial light cruiser, slicing through an army of dark soldiersbefore revealing his face at the end. In Rise of Insurgency, the scene is repeated, except on Adelhard’s star destroyer, building to the same bombastic reveal.

Most of the time, Luke wears his black robes without the hood and cape, but it’s when he prepares for a mission that the hood and cape remain on. This new uniform perfectly represents Luke’s new status as a Knight and Jedi Master. After all, the prequels established that Republic Jedi also wore capes over their robes, creating an iconic silhouette as a symbol of peace and order.

The thirty year gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens is a lost chapter, denying fans any chance to witness Luke continuing his mission, after being seen in his most powerful form after defeating Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine. The sequel trilogy suggests Luke only had a minute to shine in his primeunlike previous Legends stories such as Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn, but another glimpse came through The Mandalorian.

The Battle of Jakku the comic series is the next best chance to see Luke Skywalker in his prime as a Jedi Master. With a mysterious new Inquisitor introduced and Luke unwittingly on a collision course, there’s never been a better chance to see Luke put his skills to the test in new Star Wars canon. We hope it will be delivered in the next edition.
