Warning! Contains spoilers for Wolverine #2Wolverine has always been a force to be reckoned with, like these X-Men resident berserker, and sometimes there seems to be no end to the adamantium-clad hero’s abilities. Now, Wolverine’s solo series just revealed He can change his heart so drastically that bio-trackers cannot register that he is alive. Wolverine’s revealed ability fits him incredibly well and works perfectly with the character growth the Wolverine series establishes.
In a preview of Wolverine #2 – Written by Saladin Ahmed, with art by MarÃn Cóccolo – Wolverine retreats to the desert and seeks an escape from the mutant-hating world, but trouble finds him when he is tracked down by his old commander, Saber, who is out to kill Him. Wolverine is also pursued by Department H, a government agency for tracking mutants, after being framed for Saber’s murders.
Instead of fighting, Wolverine slows his heart to become undetectable to the agents. I was more thrilled to see Wolverine return to his roots and witness how his newly disclosed power alludes to his lesser known abilities.
I love how Wolverine’s new power calls back to his long-forgotten abilities and secret agent years

One thing I would never do is underestimate Wolverine’s elite fighting tactics; Wolverine is over two hundred years old and has a lifetime of experience from his time as an X-Men, a secret agent, and a soldier. in Wolverine #2, he even mentions that Canada’s Department H is part of the reason he has adamantium grafted to his skeleton and claws. I can see Wolverine’s ability to slow his heart down Be it a skill he learned while in the army or a necessary ability he picked up on dangerous missions.

We all know about Wolverine’s incredible healing factor, but his ability to slow his heart calls back to his lesser-known ability to be undetectable to humans or technology. In the storyline, “The Fall of the Mutants” by Chris Claremont, Wolverine and the X-Men rose from the dead to save the world, and with their resurrections came the undead’s ability to be invisible to most humans and technology once out of sight. It makes sense to me how Wolverine’s elite combat abilities mixed with his ghost-like powers would be a deadly combination.
Marvel’s new Wolverine series is leaning into Wolverine’s animalistic qualities — and I think it’s the right move
Wolverine #1 – Available now from Marvel Comics
I noticed the series draws many parallels between Wolverine and that of a wild animal which is a consistent aspect of Wolverine’s personality throughout his many years of characterization. Wolverine’s power of slowing his breath is similar to an animal being hunted, which makes a lot of sense, Given his current predicament in Wolverine #2. Wolverine often goes into the wilderness to clear his head after a traumatic experience, but often times when Wolverine goes into the wild it leads him to go wild.
I’ll never forget the brutal moment Magneto pulled out Wolverine’s adamantium leading to the events of “Fatal Attractions,” where Wolverine leaves the X-Men to retreat into the woods and adopt a more untamed personality. The series retreads many aspects of “Fatal Attractions”, with Wolverine going into the forest to clear his head of the tragic loss of Krakoa and the controversial actions of Charles Xavier. This time, however, it seems that Wolverine is heading in a positive direction and his ability to keep a level head enough to control his breathing proves it.
Wolverine’s “heartstopping” power confirms he has immeasurable discipline
And always more tricks up his sleeve
I found Wolverine’s return to a more feral state both nostalgic and excitingEspecially with the prospect of his further developed power. in Wolverine #1Wolverine is initially giving into his feral nature, but he now seems to be more in control than ever thanks to Nightcrawler’s intervention and his fight with Saber. Instead of attacking a large group of soldiers trained to kill him, he instead chooses to lower his heart rate and keep an eye on the group from afar.
Wolverine’s new power is a welcome inclusion that fits perfectly with the rest of his lore. I can only hope that Wolverine’s incredibly impressive new ability is further explored, and plays a bigger part in his solo journey.
While hunting Wolverine, Saber calls him a wild animal, one who wants discipline, but after seeing Wolverine’s efforts in this issue, I believe that the villain could not be more wrong about the adamantium-clawed X-Men. Consider all the skills Acquired by Wolverine during his time as a soldier, his time in the desert, and his history as an X-Men, Wolverine’s new power is a welcome inclusion that fits perfectly with the rest of his lore. I can only hope that Wolverine’s incredibly impressive new ability is further explored, and plays a bigger part in his solo journey.
Wolverine #2 Will be available October 16, 2024 from Marvel Comics!
