Dragon Ball Daima’s funniest new character is the one who spends the least amount of time on screen

Few characters in Dragon Ball DAIMA have their entertainment value, but a new introduction is an especially fun concept brought to life. Warp-sama is a series of giant goldfish-like creatures that help unite the realms of the multiverseincluding the three demonic worlds. Warp-sama is not just an interesting expansion to the world-building of Dragon Ball DAIMAbut his character is completely fun and imposing in the series.

Dragon Ball DAIMA introduces the Demon Realm as Goku and his friends attempt to rescue Dende and reverse the wish that shrank them at the beginning of the series. In the process, they learn about those who would attempt to lead the Demon Realm and consolidate their power, namely Gomah, Degesu, and Dr. But to reach the far reaches of the Demon Realm in the Third Demon World, Goku, Shin, and Glorio must pass through Warp-sama’s barrier.

Warp-sama is the portal to the multiverse in Dragon Ball DAIMA

But don’t call them goldfish

First seen in Dragon Ball DAIMA with a large representative stationed in the First World of the Demon Realm, near the palace of Gomah, where a series of Warp-samas connect as relays across the multiverse. This sends users to a portal containing many multiverse entry points, including marked entrances to each of the three Demon Worlds, guarded by a smaller Warp-sama. What’s interesting about Warp-sama is that despite its relatively short screen time in Dragon Ball DAIMAthey have unquestionable power over these portals, even with the Demon King at their mercy.

Earth’s Warp-sama appears in Dragon Ball DAIMA episode #3, with Goku quickly testing his patience. To pass through these portals, Warp-sama verifies Demon Realm heritage, i.e. pointy ears, and the assigned PIN received after successful registration. Warp-sama is a new meticulous character in Dragon Ball DAIMAand in typical Toriyama fashion, even these recurring characters can be uniquely memorable.

Warp-sama has great power over the Dragon Ball multiverse

These creatures know their roles and bow to no one.

Angry Warp-sama in Dragon Ball DAIMA

Although Warp-sama is a fascinating character, each iteration is also highly sensitive and if they don’t like those trying to pass, travelers may not be allowed to pass. This results even in moments like Dragon Ball DAIMA episode #1 where Gomah proudly asserts his power as the Demon King, but Warp-sama completely dismisses him. When Gomah raises his voice to even the smallest Warp-sama, asking who went to Earth after Dabura and Babidi, Gomah is forced to apologize and ask nicely again.

This occurs again in Dragon Ball DAIMA episode #3, with Goku repeatedly calling Earth’s Warp-sama a goldfish. If not for Glorio’s possession of a unique PIN and Shin’s quick thinking, briefly transforming Goku’s ears to appear more pointy, they would not have been able to pass. But seeing such a powerful and respected being, whose references to Universe 7 draw canonical connections with Dragon Ball Superswelling with frustration over trivial comments about goldfish is refreshing and fun. It’s the kind of wonderfully silliness expected from an original Toriyama character, and a welcome addition to the Dragon Ball DAIMA.

Dragon Ball DAIMA is the fifth series overall in the action-adventure anime franchise. It features most of the classic cast members as aged versions of themselves, including Goku, Vegeta, and Bulma. The series was announced at NYCC 2023, with creator Akira Toriyama returning to manage DAIMA.
