Acosta was pursued by the creatures as she ran to Colony House, and while trying to shoot the many monsters surrounding her, she unintentionally fired a shot into the house. while doing so, Acosta accidentally shot and killed Nikki inside. The residents of the house were clearly upset, and Boyd running in to point her out only made the tension higher.
After the death of the paramedics, Acosta and Henry are the first brand new residents of ofs city since the bus arrived in the season 1 finale.
Taking his anger out on Acosta indicates that the monsters are starting to get what they wanted after killing Tian-chen and letting Boyd live in of Season 3, Episode 1. The monsters wanted to break Boyd, shake him, and keep him from being the glue that holds the community together. Boyd lashing out also suggests that he knows the monsters’ actions are getting to him. This time the ghosts didn’t even kill Randall for him while he was helpless; Worse for his determination and well-being, they forced him to choose to let the monsters kill Randall.
