Quentin TarantinoTarantino’s films are often controversial due to the amount of violence and blood in them, but one, in particular, wasn’t as popular as the others – but it still marked a different career path for Tarantino, which made the film better. After exploring the martial arts genre with both parts of Kill BillTarantino decided to pay a visit to the slasher genre with Death Proof. In 2007, Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez joined forces on Grindera double project with several short films, Rodriguez’s horror film Planet Terrorand Tarantino Death Proof.
Death Proof follows stuntman Mike (Russell Crowe), who tours bars to take women to his “death-proof” car – however, once inside, he reveals that the car is death-proof just for him, and uses it to kill the women in the passenger seat. One day, he follows three women with the intention of killing them, but they are much smarter and braver than he expected. Death Proof is the film directed by Tarantino with the lowest critic score in Rotten tomatoes with 64%but even though this was the first time in my career, Death Proof scored another big and better first.
Death Proof is Quentin Tarantino’s first credit as director of photography
Quentin Tarantino had more control over what Death Proof looked like
Quentin Tarantino excelled as a director and writer, writing all of his films, and also produced some of his and other filmmakers’ films. Tarantino still has several acting credits under his belt, with small appearances in some of his films and proper roles in films by other directors, most notably Richie Gecko in From dusk to dawnwritten by him, but directed by Robert Rodriguez. What Tarantino didn’t explore was the role of the cinematographer, but that changed with Death Proof.
Death Proof is Tarantino’s first and so far only credit as director of photographyand being in charge of that was key to the film’s specific style. As part of the Grinder project, Tarantino wanted Death Proof have the visual style of the films shown in grindhouse cinemas from the 1970s. The point was to Death Proof look like exploitation films from that decadewhich had a “cheap” and “damaged” style and abrupt cuts in some parts.
The film was intentionally damaged and the cuts were also intentional.
By acting as director of photography, Tarantino ensured that Death Proof it had the visual style I was looking for, and although the film had many flaws, it definitely achieved the desired look. To achieve this, the film was intentionally damaged and the jump-cuts were also intentional, including the one at the beginning showing a different title before the real one appeared.
Why Death Proof is the lowest-rated Quentin Tarantino film on Rotten Tomatoes
The death proof had several flaws
Although it does not have a “rotten” score in Rotten tomatoesuntil here Death Proof is the lowest-rated film directed by Tarantino. Despite achieving the grindhouse look, Death Proof changed its visual style in the second part, and these inconsistencies were not well received by critics. The rhythm of Death Proof It’s also different from the rest of Tarantino’s filmsleading critics to call it “tedious”. The dialogue in Death Proof was also criticized, with critics saying that Tarantino cannot write dialogue for female characters.
Most critics have found that Tarantino’s style and the slasher genre don’t mix very wellwhile others found this combination interesting and fun. Death Proof It’s also Quentin Tarantino’s most controversial film to date, but not all of its flaws can take away from its importance as Tarantino’s first film as director of photography.
