NOTICE! This article contains SPOILERS for Time Cut (2024)!Netflix Time cut has a bittersweet conclusion for Lucy Field (Madison Bailey), but the logistics of her final timeline decision don’t make sense. When Lucy is introduced in 2024 as Time cutThe main character, her narration reveals that she is a scientifically minded teenager whose family life has always been tense due to the death of her older sister, Summer, in 2003. However, when she accidentally uses a time machine to travel back to the days before Summer’s 2003 murder by the Sweetly Slasher, Lucy discovers that she prefers life in this time with Quinn and Summer by her side..
After Lucy takes Sweetly Slasher (Future Quinn) back to 2024 with her and kills him, she realizes that her interference with the 2003 timeline prevented her birth. Lucy could have stayed in 2024, where her family doesn’t know who she is, or returned to 2003 to live out her life with the now-survivor Summer, even though she technically doesn’t exist there. The best decision for Lucy’s happiness was to stay with Summer and Quinn in 2003, but there are still some problems with his destination and his second trip back to 2003 that Time cut doesn’t explain it properly.
How did Lucy get an internship at NASA if she didn’t even exist in the 2003 timeline?
NASA apparently did not verify the identity of its accepted candidate
Netflix Time cut the film ends almost exactly as it began, with Lucy doing a voiceover about her NASA application. While Lucy applied for the NASA internship in 2024, the final moments of the film reveal that she was later accepted into the NASA internship in 2003 upon returning to that timeline. However, the fact that it was accepted in 2003 doesn’t make any sense. In fact, Lucy didn’t exist in 2003, so it’s unclear how she managed to sign up without any social security number, address, or some sort of source of identification..
Of course, online technology is more advanced and the ability to certify one’s identity via the Internet is much easier in 2024, but one would think that a scientific government organization like NASA could still achieve this in 2003. Lucy apparently still doesn’t have the 2003 time machine to prove to NASA that she’s from 2024and even if he did, many more flags would be raised about his existence besides giving him an internship. Also, as one more detail, it doesn’t make sense for Lucy to send her personal statement to NASA after She has already been accepted.
Has Lucy ever told her parents who she is?
Lucy remains in 2003, but do her parents believe the truth about her?
Another aspect Time cut’The ending that makes little sense is the fact that Lucy still lives in the city and seems to hang out with Summer, Quinn and Emmy all the time, but there is no confirmation on where she is living. As Lucy is writing her response to NASA in a room, it appears that she is living in her old house with Summer rather than on Quinn’s boat. She was even seen having dinner with her parents, so it seems likely that Lucy ended up telling who she was, even if they never have her in this timeline.
When Lucy traveled back to 2024 with Future Quinn, the time machine shot into the future with her, which is how she was still able to return to 2003.
Netflix’s sci-fi horror film leaves a lot of loose ends, and one of them certainly has to do with Lucy telling others the truth about herself being from a future that no longer exists. For Lucy to prove that she exists, She will have to make everyone, including her parents and the government, believe in time travel. But, that still won’t help Lucy in the Time cutnew timeline for obtaining a birth certificate, social security number, or other official documents she will need in her future life.
