Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
is set to introduce some incredible characters to James Gunn’s film UDC
with incredibly talented actors cast in the roles. The theatrical side of the DCU is expected to begin in 2025 with the release of Supermanbut equally exciting and in another part of this universe is the Supergirl film slated for release in 2026. While Clark Kent is usually the Krypton who takes center stage in DC stories, his older cousin, Kara Zor-El, is often ignored or underrated.
Hopefully the 2026 film can finally change that and give comic book fans a Supergirl worth celebrating. The story of Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, is complex and occasionally time-confused, but with the DCU film inspired by the recent Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic series published between 2021 and 2022, there is a chance to make the character an exciting and important part of the narrative, comparable to her cousin, and capable of being a leader within the DCU. But, this requires the right cast to ensure project success on the big screen.
Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl
Vertical (2019-2022), House of the Dragon (2022-2024)
First of all, the film needs to have the right person in the titular role, playing Supergirl. Fortunately, young man Milly Alcock seems like the perfect choice for the soon-to-be-adult heroand although they advocate being a true hero, the character has a darker side. The comics the film draws inspiration from show Supergirl transforming into a hero, but before they can live up to Superman’s legacy and legend, Kara has some rough edges she needs to polish.

Milly Alcock is best known for her role as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in Dragon House. THE Game of Thrones the prequel series saw the young woman who would become a fierce and strong ruler of House Targaryen. Although her final rule was short-lived, the young princess was assertive and ensured that her voice was heard. This intensity and playfulness will certainly help define Kara’s character in Supergirl. However, Kara is decidedly more heroic and hopeful than Rhaenyra. Alcock may be young and a little inexperienced, but that also means she can be molded to perfectly embody the role.
Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills
Red Sparrow (2018), Django (2022-2023), The Regime (2024)
As the main antagonist, Matthias Schoenaerts will play the nefarious Krem of the Yellow Hills. This space pirate is an unhinged, murderous loose cannon who initially works for the king. However, his reckless nature and quick temper lead to darker and more sordid forms of employment. Krem starts the action in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow when the villain Krem kills a young father who can’t laugh at his joke. Evidently, his fragile ego and willingness to use excessive force make him a real threat.
Schoenaerts has had several notable roles in his career, which has taken him from a bit player in Belgian independent films and short films to someone who now shares the screen with some of Hollywood’s most talented and revered actors. In 2024, he appeared alongside Kate Winslet in the HBO film The Regimewhere he plays a devoted but also somewhat unhinged bodyguard to the ruler of an undefined European nation. His talent for portraying characters with that villainous side and a short temper make him ideal for the role of Krem.
Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll
3 Body Trouble (2024)
Another incredibly talented young woman who made it big in Hollwood despite her age, Eve Ridley, born in 2011 and is still taking Hollywood by storm with her part Supergirl set to be his theatrical debut. But she proved her incredible skill in the recent hit Netflix series, 3Body Problemwhere she played Follower. And, with Ridley set to play a major role in the upcoming film (via Deadline), Supergirl it will be the opportunity to consolidate your success as a Hollywood star.
Ruthye Marye Knoll is an entirely new character in DC Comics, once again only being introduced in the comics this film is based on in 2021. Ruthye is the daughter of the farmer who Krem brutally and thoughtlessly murdered. While she is left without a father or a clear path forward, Ruthye’s dogged determination drives her to find someone who can help avenge her father’s death, and as luck would have it, she meets Supergirl. The character is fierce, determined and prepared to face the villain, despite her clear disadvantage in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
