Daredevil vs Hand Cosplay recreates perhaps his greatest comic art

Reckless has faced a number of deadly villains over the years, from the Kingpin and all the assassins he has in his pocket, to an ancient ninja clan determined to kill him called the Hand. Over that time, Daredevil’s exploits have been beautifully captured in the many volumes of comics collected throughout its history at Marvel Comics. And most of all, one page is perhaps his greatest comic art, and it’s been recreated perfectly in jaw-dropping cosplay.

In a post on Instagram by users Arcangelo Mai Nominato (name: indomabile warrior) and Wens Universe (name: wens.1998), a Daredevil cosplayer is featured doing more than posing for the camera in a movie-quality costume, they are actually recreating a scene from a Daredevil comic.

As the caption describes, Daredevil is countering the shuriken that was thrown at him by a Hand ninja lurking off camera. The image itself shows ‘four Daredevils’ representing movement during an action scene – and it definitely has the desired effect. Fans looking at this cosplay can feel the ferocity and courage emanating from this street hero as he takes on a gang of villains who want nothing more than to see him dead. Additionally (to a point that almost goes without saying), Daredevil’s costume itself is absolutely perfect, as if it were lifted straight from the MCU.

Daredevil cosplay perfectly captures the energy and look of the original scene

Reckless Vol. 2 #49 by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev

Daredevil counters attacks launched at him by an invisible attacker.

The movement and choreography presented in this cosplay is so engaging that one would think the cosplayer was inspired by a moment from the MCU. Reckless series, but it’s not like that. In fact, this is taken directly from Reckless #49 and received the live-action treatment. From the layout, the moves, the attacking and counter-attacking, this cosplay really brought Alex Maleev’s art to life in a spectacular – and incredibly comical – way.

This cosplayer makes comic book accuracy look easy as they perfectly transformed this comic book scene into live action, proving that it can be done. Movies often mess up or unnecessarily change an iconic comic book moment during any adaptation. But this cosplay shows that comics can act as a sort of storyboard for a live-action film or show and produce truly epic results.

This Daredevil cosplay highlights how iconic Alex Maleev’s artwork is

Perhaps the coolest part of this is that it pays homage to the art of a truly iconic artist. Reckless artist Alex Maleev. Although Maleev has obviously done more in his career than work on a single Reckless book, this race is certainly one of the best. Reckless Vol. 2 gave fans the gritty, dirty, hardcore version of Man Without Fear they know and love from the live-action series. While Maleev didn’t invent ‘Brave Daredevil’, he certainly perfected it, and his work is more than worthy of that level of recognition.

In fact, given the influence Alex Maleev’s Daredevil had on the live-action series, this cosplay suddenly becomes a lot cooler than it already was. The costume the cosplayer is wearing comes straight from the MCU, and the scene they depict came from Maleev’s creative talents, meaning this cosplayer effectively fused the two into a perfect homage to each Reckless fan would love to see. In fact, Alex Maleev produced perhaps the greatest piece of Reckless art with this original scene, and the cosplay captured it perfectly.
