Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Ghosts Season 4, Episode 3!Ghosts Executive producers Joe Port and Joe Wiseman explained how Patience’s (Mary Holland) big decision in Season 4, Episode 3 could lead to more ghosts appearing on the series. During Ghosts Season 4, Episode 3, Patience put Sam (Rose McIver) on trial for witchcraft, taking it seriously after she raised the dead during a previous Halloween night. As the episode ends, however, she suddenly decides that the house contains too many temptations and goes back to earth. She says she’s coming back”the others“indicating that more invisible ghosts live beneath the Bed & Breakfast.
Talking to TV linePort and Wiseman explained how Patience was not inventing the presence of other spirits Ghosts season 4, episode 3indicating that more new faces could appear on the show soon. The producers explain how the idea of underground ghosts opens the door for many new faces as the series progresses. This is especially the case with Season 4, with its 22 episodes offering plenty of room for those the Puritan spirit mentioned. Check out what Port and Wiseman had to say below:
João Porto: I’d say this probably isn’t the last we’ve seen of Patience, that’s my bet.
Joe Wisman: I think it would be a strange thing for her to make up [ghosts in the dirt].
João Porto: [Ghosts inside the B&B] They haven’t necessarily been there that long. [Patience] he has. She definitely spent a lot of time alone, we thought. She was a little detached at first, like you said, and so her time away definitely wasn’t helpful in that regard.
Joe Wisman: We don’t have a hard and fast rule [about new ghosts]. It’s like a felt thing. But this and It’s a great property and it’s fun to meet new ghosts. Part of the challenge in [writers’] room we face is what ghosts might be on the property that we don’t know about yet and/or how do we bring in ghosts from outside? We’ve had poltergeists, who are attached to one person, we’ve had ghost cars. We have a few other ideas we are discussing that might be fun. But you don’t want to do this too often because it starts to strain credulity a little. But at the same time, that’s part of the good thing about being able to do 22 [episodes] how we are this season. This gives you a little more breathing room. If we wanted to do some of these other things, it wouldn’t be on top of each other.
What Port & Wiseman’s statement means for New Souls In Ghosts Season 4
Patience will likely return – with new faces
There are countless characters in Ghosts already, with many souls from hundreds of years of history inhabiting the Woodstone B&B. However, the subterranean spirits are likely older than characters like Sass (Román Zaragoza) or Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones), potentially even as old as Thor (Devan Chandler Long), who was alive 1,000 years ago. This could offer a new dynamic to the house, just as Patience’s presence did, providing a wild new storyline depending on why those on the ground decide to leave.
Port and Wiseman’s statement pretty much confirms that they have plans for the spirits Patience was talking about, which means new characters will appear as season 4 progresses. Having pointed out the sheer number of episodes this time around, it looks like the pair may have plans for a huge number of new faces, potentially with their own interesting ghost powers. Not only could this indicate some interesting standalone episodes, but possibly an overarching story that has to do with underground spirits trying to find living space at the B&B, possibly establishing Ghosts Season 5 conflicts too.
Our thoughts on Patience’s decision and more Ghosts In Ghosts, season 4
It’s the perfect way to keep evolving the show
Patience doesn’t look like she’ll be gone forever, given how prominently she’s been teased since the Season 3 finale. Instead, his return to earth could result in a much broader story, with Ghosts presenting a new conflict as a greater number of spirits begin to arrive at the B&B. Given the potential that exists for new characters, the comedy will likely continue at this level of potential for even more unique stories this season.
New episodes of Ghosts Season 4 airs Thursdays at 8:30 pm ET on CBS.
