Cast of a live-action film version of From the inside out it would be fascinating, as each emotion would allow the actors to add and expand these roles. From the inside out and Inside Out 2 they were films that not only created a new and fun cast of characters, but also truly examined the complexities of growing up. Although updates on a potential Inside Out 3 remain minimal, the success of Inside Out 2 makes another glimpse into the lives of these emotions highly likely.
Even so, From the inside out the portrayal of each phase of life and the emotions that accompany it does not need to be limited to animation. A live action From the inside out the film would reiterate the beats of the franchise, especially when it comes to emotions and their antics. These characterizations would be the most vital part of a live-action film to get rightas his actions drive the plot and show the final message of both films. Fortunately, there are several actors and actresses who would be up to the task of balancing the humor and heart of this franchise.

Kristen Bell (Nobody Wants That)
Joy – originally voiced by Amy Poehler
Kristen Bell could capture Joy’s energetic and emotional vulnerability in From the inside out as she showed a version of this in Nobody wants that. Bell’s Joanne in the Netflix series has a more jaded version of Joy’s cheerful personality which could easily be changed to incorporate your energy.
Nobody wants that also demonstrates Bell’s ability to be vulnerable, which is an important aspect of the character as Joy cries in From the inside out and experiences many moments of catharsis throughout his journey.

Kaliko Kauahi (Superstore)
Sadness – originally voiced by Phyllis Smith
Kaliko Kauahi’s time as Sandra in Superstore would allow her to showcase Sadness’s inspiring arc and particular humor in From the inside out. Sandra in Superstore shares the low self-esteem and lack of confidence of Sadnessthat changes and grows during the end of From the inside out as she learns how important her role is. Kauahi would be able to balance the main parts of Sadness’ personality with the comedic parts of her character, giving her arc the same impact as the original film.

Danny DeVito (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia)
Anger – Originally voiced by Lewis Black
Danny DeVito’s many roles, including Frank in It’s always sunny in Philadelphia, would easily let him show Anger’s anger and kindness in From the inside out. Frank’s particular energy and quick temper suit Anger perfectly in both films, making him one of the most energetic characters in From the inside out. On the other hand, DeVito’s more serious roles and natural warmth would allow him to capture Anger’s gentleness in Inside Out 2 as he encourages Joy to continue after she gives up on taking them back to headquarters.

Keegan-Michael Key (Keanu)
Fear – Originally voiced by Bill Hader
His storied comedic career and ever-present anxiety in Keanu would allow Keegan-Michael Key to easily capture Fear’s anxious nature and over-preparation in From the inside out. Key’s role as Clarence, rightfully scared and anxious in Keanu matches many of Fear’s own beatswith his action experience easily matching Fear’s ability to defuse frightening situations, such as the parachute scene in Inside out 2. Key’s comedic tone and timing also work well for the character, allowing him to capture the frantic, resigned humor in many of Fear’s memorable quotes in From the inside out.

Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek)
Disgust – Originally voiced by Mindy Kaling
Alexis Annie Murphy Schitt’s Creek would allow her to take on the role with ease, like her perfectly reflects Disgust’s fashion sense, personality and empathy in From the inside out. Alexis’s love of fashion, distinct ideas about what’s acceptable, and ability to navigate social situations mesh with many of Disgust’s best moments in both films. However, it is Alexis’s empathy and good heart that really makes Murphy a strong candidate, as Disgust’s empathy along with Anger helps Joy overcome her sadness and leads to Inside Out 2 end.

Anna Kendrick (Mr. Right)
Anxiety – originally voiced by Maya Hawke
Her performance as the anxious but kind Martha in Mr. Right adds to Anna Kendrick’s personal behavior, making her the ideal choice to play Anxiety From the inside out. Anxiety in Inside Out 2 he has good intentions, but he is harmful, as his plans to help end up causing more harm. Kendrick’s Martha balances this anxious nature and desire for perfection with a warm personality, making her an easy protagonist to root for and a great choice for capturing the complexity of Anxiety on film.

Joe Locke (heartbreaker)
Embarrassment – Originally voiced by Paul Walter Hauser
Joe Locke would easily be able to embody Embarrassment’s timid nature and subsequent determination to help From the inside out, as he already embodies both in Charlie’s Heartbreaker. Although he is one of the new emotions in Inside Out 2Embarrassment doesn’t have much of an arc. That said, the few beats he gets he uses to help the original five emotions, gaining some confidence in the process. This journey mirrors that of Charlie, whose battles with anxiety and stillness to a comfortable personality could be easily transferred by Locke to portray the character.

Tiffany Haddish (Tuca and Bertie)
Envy – Originally voiced by Ayo Edebiri
Haddish’s ability to mix intensity with comedy, as seen in her role as Tuca in Tuca & Bertie, makes her the ideal choice to embody Envy’s sweet yet strong personality in From the inside out. Tuca’s energy and humor match many aspects of Envy, whose gentleness is often tinged with an uncomfortable edge. Haddish would be able to balance these two sides easily, adding her own sharp wit to develop the character and her best moments in Inside out 2.

Aubrey Plaza’s deadpan delivery and ability to shift emotionally quickly, as highlighted in her role in Parks and Recreation, fits Ennui’s perpetually carefree personality From the inside out. Plaza’s time as April showcased her ability to balance character progression and deadpan humor, creating a well-rounded and funny character who rarely seemed invested in the world around her. This would work perfectly for Ennui, as despite being one of the calmest emotions in the Inside Out 2She still has her strong moments, like when she loses her phone during the second From the inside out climax of the film.
