Why Aaron Hernandez Killed Odin Lloyd

WARNING: SPOILERS ahead for episode 8 of American Sports Story.

American sports history Episode 8 “Odin” chronicles the murder of Odin Lloyd by former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez. Josh Rivera leads the American sports history cast as Aaron Hernandez, the former high school and NFL superstar who was convicted of murdering semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd in 2015. Lloyd was dating Hernandez’s fiancée’s sister, Shayanna Jenkins at the time of his death. Although Hernandez and Lloyd were friends, prosecutors believed Hernandez found a reason to lose trust in Lloyd, which involved the apartment and an incident at a Boston nightclub that led to the murder.

American sports history episode 8 makes several changes to the real story of Odin Lloyd’s murder. American sports history creates a clear motive for Aaron Hernadnez’s murder of Odin Lloyd that was not established in real life. Lloyd allegedly knew about Hernandez’s second apartment in Franklin, Massachusetts, due to a complaint made by Hernandez’s nanny. American sports history uses this information to portray it as the main cause of Hernandez’s murder of Lloyd. As pictured in BUTT episode 8, Lloyd reveals to his girlfriend Shaena, Shayanna’s sister, that Hernandez has a secret second apartmentaka your failed house.

Aaron Hernandez Never Confirmed Why He Killed Odin Lloyd

A clear motive for his death was never determined or revealed by Hernandez

Aaron Hernandez and Odin Lloyd in episode 8 of American Sports Story

Despite the portrayal of Odin Lloyd’s murder in American sports history episode 8, a clear motive for Lloyd’s murder was never determined and Aaron never spoke about it. American sports history makes it appear that Hernandez and Lloyd met only a few weeks before the murder. The series depicts Hernandez and Lloyd only occasionally hanging out before Hernandez takes the life of his potential father-in-law. In reality, Hernandez and Lloyd met sometime two years before the 2013 murder, at a family gathering with Shayanna’s sister, Shaena. The series makes Hernandez’s motive for killing Lloyd more impulsive than it probably was.

According to ESPN, Hernandez provided Lloyd with several perks, including tickets to several New England Patriots games. Hernandez had also promised Lloyd that one day he would take him on a trip to California. Hernandez also rented Lloyd a black Chevy Suburban SUV days before his death, much like the one Hernandez drives American sports history episode 8. All signs and signs pointed to Hernandez and Lloyd being good friends for months and even years before Hernandez took his life. American sports history ignores these facts and ultimately presents Hernandez’s murder as a spontaneous act of paranoia and instability.

Prosecutors Believe Aaron Hernandez Killed Odin Lloyd Due to Lack of Trust

Hernandez sent a text saying “You can’t trust anyone anymore” the night before Lloyd died

Odin Lloyd and Shaena Jenkins in episode 8 of American Sports Story

Prosecutors believed Hernandez killed Lloyd when he determined he could no longer trust him with confidential information. This potentially unproven reason is consistent with what happens in American sports history episode 8, although it was never revealed whether Shayanna Jenkins knew about Hernandez’s second apartment after authorities discovered it in June 2013. There is also speculation that Lloyd had gotten too close to the truth about Hernandez’s other alleged crimes, especially an alleged double homicide in Boston. Although the exact circumstances remain unclear, Hernandez went from being Lloyd’s close friend to being his executioner.

Lloyd’s body was found with a total of five bullet holes in it. Authorities determined it to be an execution-style murder. It is unclear why exactly the creators of American sports history decided to change some details of Lloyd’s murder, such as Hernandez firing two bullets instead of five. The series already presented the alleged murders of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado by Hernandez and the alleged attempted murder of Alexander “Sherrod” Bradley as facts in previous episodes. American sports history Episode 8 also omits a text message that Hernandez sent to Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace the night before Lloyd’s death that said: “You can’t trust anyone anymore” (through New York Post Office).

Some believe Aaron Hernandez killed Odin Lloyd because he knew he was gay

A popular but unconfirmed belief about Hernandez’s motive for killing Lloyd was that he discovered he was closeted gay or bisexual. Although the theory is popular and plausible based on Hernandez’s confessions about his sexuality while incarcerated, it is not a proven motive. The simple answer is that a clear motive was never determinedwhich is a frustrating outcome in any murder trial, especially one as stunning and confusing as Hernandez’s murder of Lloyd. Hernandez was found to have advanced Stage 3 CTE following his death by suicide in 2017, adding another mysterious layer to the complicated tragedy in American sports history.
