The spin-off turned out to be the best move for the characters

The first season of ‘Angel’ had growing pains.

Moving Angel (Boreanaz) and Cordelia (Carpenter) to another show was the right way to handle this couple. After periods of turbulent ups and downs, Buffy and Angel’s relationship is in danger of becoming stale the show needs a new angle. Angel leaving was the best way to allow him and Buffy to reinvent themselves. Cordelia’s desire to leave Sunnydale after high school and move to Los Angeles also suited her well. They evolved into richer characters since they were no longer supporting characters in the series. Buffy.

Boreanaz and Carpenter are still grateful for the opportunity. Angel gave them roles for which they will be remembered forever.

Angel the first season does a good job of feeling different from Buffy. However, like most shows, it takes a while to find its footing. Unlike most of the show, Season 1 relies more on monster-of-the-week episodes instead of having a common arc. It’s not until the finale that the show discovers its longest storyline, with Angel being predicted to become human again after saving the world. It also has sequences that haven’t aged very well, such as Cordelia being impregnated by a demon in the first of two instances.

The show has a complicated legacy

Angel it is undoubtedly a magnificent sight. Unfortunately, there are a lot of accusations leveled against Whedon hanging around it. What the threshold is for separating the art from the artist depends on the viewer. While Carpenter’s accusations of Whedon’s toxic behavior complicate my feelings about the series, it is ultimately not his show. It came together thanks to many creative voices. The show’s legacy doesn’t come down to one person. 25 years later, Boreanaz and Carpenter are still grateful for the opportunity. Angel gave them roles for which they will be remembered forever.
