With the recent launch of a Marvel vs. Capcom collection, many fans are overjoyed that the classic fighting games are being No longer confined to huge arcade cabinets. Now, millions of franchise newcomers and veterans can finally experience these classic fighting games on a modern handheld console with online play, allowing them to play as their favorite Marvel and Capcom characters. With that in mind, now is the perfect time for a new entry in this iconic franchise.
The last Marvel vs. Capcom the game that came out was Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite since 2017. Despite coming off the heels of the incredibly popular and acclaimed Marvel film Avengers Infinity War and End of the game films, the game was very poorly received for countless reasons. Now, seven years later, the franchise finally has a chance to redeem itself by taking advantage of this resurgence in Marvel vs. Capcompopularity to create a new following.
Marvel has many iconic characters who have not yet appeared in the franchise
There are several popular faces who were never on the list
Since the launch of Marvel vs. Capcom Infinitethere have been several successful films with characters that audiences have come to love. Big names like Star-Lord, Blade and Miles Morales have not yet appeared in a single Marvel vs. Capcom game, but they would fit perfectly into the roster alongside iconic characters like Spider-Man, Rocket Raccoon, and Doctor Strange. From unique combat capabilities to fun personalities, there’s no shortage of Marvel characters that would be perfect for a new inclusion in fighting games, and recent years have highlighted some that previously lacked the popularity they needed.
There are also numerous villains that have not yet been added to the Marvel vs. Capcom roster, leaving many familiar faces missing from the franchise. Such names include the Green Goblin, Mysterio and Lokiall possessing a wide variety of dangerous devices or powerful spells that can create fantastic move sets. An engaging and exciting narrative in story mode could go a long way toward restoring the franchise’s former good name, and these villains would be perfect for giving the heroes an interesting challenge to overcome.
Various sequels and remasters remain popular
Capcom has seen a lot of success in recent years with the return of many of its beloved IPs. More recently, Street Fighter 6 brought several iconic fighting game characters back into the spotlight, including Ryu and Chun Li. These characters were pillars in Marvel vs. Capcom franchiseand would no doubt see a return if another sequel were made.
Another popular franchise in recent years has been Resident Evil franchise. Whether through new entries, such as Resident Evil: Village or the remakes of classic entries, this action-horror franchise has been adored by newcomers and veterans alike. Characters like Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine and Albert Wesker already appeared on the list, but a new sequel would give the opportunity to add characters like Sherry Birkin from Resident Evil 6 or Karl Heisenburg from Village.
Finally, Monster Hunter: Rise proved to be a huge success upon its release in 2021. Although a playable character from the series appeared in Marvel vs. Capcom Infinitehis moveset has proven to be quite limited compared to what is possible in the actual franchise. If Monster Hunter were to return to the sequel’s roster, then its moveset could have a lot more variety to it. reference the various types of monsters, weapons and equipment which can be found in Monster Hunter: Rise or even the next one Wild Monster Hunter.
A chance to save Marvel vs. Capcom
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite It was criticized very negatively for several reasons. Its roster was much smaller compared to previous entries in the franchise, and its Mediocre story mode consisted of poor writing and simplistic cutscene animations. Should a new Marvel vs. Capcom game goes into development in the future, this would give the franchise a chance at redemption, as long as the developers don’t face the same obstacles as those of Infinite.
The wide variety of iconic characters and locations from both companies offers some truly fantastic crossover potential. The opportunity for incredibly engaging content and intriguing storytelling is what makes this franchise so beloved, and it deserves a second chance after its most recent misstep. If the Nintendo Switch port sells well, I hope that means a new Marvel vs. Capcom the game is on the horizon.
