Warning: This article contains spoilers for Joker: Folie à Deux.
I’m much more excited to see Barry Keoghan’s Joker develop further still Joker: Folie à Deux broke his promise. Joker: Folie à DeuxSet outside the mainstream DC Universe, released on October 4th to a mixed response and poor box office sales. While I actually enjoyed Joker: Folie à DeuxSome have criticized Todd Phillips’ sequel for not giving us the real villain that was teased at the end of 2019’s original. JokerAnd, to an extent, I agree. While I loved the Subversion, I’m still craving a dark live action Joker.
2019s Joker Ended with Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck killing late night talk show host Murray Franklin and inciting riots across Gotham, teasing Fleck’s evolution into the true Joker in a sequel. throughout Joker: Folie à Deux, Lady Gaga’s Lee acted as the audience, trying to outwit Arthur Fleck’s Joker, and I loved that it never happened. With Fleck instead renouncing the Joker identity and confessing to his crimes. While I appreciated the ending, it was ultimately anticlimactic, leaving the door open for a powerful new Joker to take his place.
Joker: Folie À Deux failed to give us the real villain we wanted
Arthur Fleck renounced the Joker identity in Joker: Folie À Deux
Although I thought it was very clever that Joker: Folie à Deux Never showed Arthur Fleck’s evolution in The Joker, it was in the center of criticism aimed at the movie, and it left Folie à Deux’s Audiences want much more. 2019s Joker promised a dark turn for Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck, which may have led him to become a more comically accurate depiction of the Joker in his sequel.. In Phillips’ dark, gritty and grounded Joker Universe, this version of the Clown Prince of Crime may have been the most evil yet.

Joker: Folie à Deux included many wonderful scenes of Phoenix in the Joker get-up, but most of them were imagined in the minds of Arthur Fleck and Harleen Quinzel. Fleck pretended to be the Joker after he decided to present himself during his elaborate trial, but he soon decided that he was not, in fact, the Joker, and needed to confess to his crimes, no matter how much Lee and the Joker’s henchmen tried to. Make him completely let loose. Since the Joker never actually emerged in Folie à DeuxI’m hoping that another upcoming movie could reintroduce the villain instead.

The origins of Barry Keoghan’s Joker were revealed by director Matt Reeves during a 2022 interview with IGN. A congenital, life-long illness causes the Joker’s deformities, and forces him to constantly smile, which has led to a lifetime of people ignoring him and looking at him differently. This reminds me of Arthur Fleck’s otherness in the Joker Franchise, but is taken to the extremeWhich makes me excited about the possibility of Barry Keoghan’s Joker becoming the most twisted and evil version of the supervillain ever.
After Joker 2, I can’t wait for Barry Keoghan’s villain to be developed
Barry Keoghan’s Joker can give us what we want from Joaquin Phoenix
I would like to see Barry Keoghan’s Joker developed further in Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman – Part IIWhat the actor recently teased Variety. Not only would this give Academy Award-winner Keoghan the opportunity to build on his debut as one of the most notable comic book villains of all time, but it would also give us exactly what we’ve been craving. Joker: Folie à Deux. Keoghan’s Joker could be a huge threat to Pattinson’s Batman and the citizens of Gotham CityAnd I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this new villain.
