What Critics Are Saying About Wizards Beyond Waverly Place
It recreates much of the magic
Overall, critics agree that Wizards Beyond Waverly Place successfully recreates much of the magic that made the original series so beloved. Simply put, Sioux City NewspaperBruce Miller says “Beyond Waverly has the same charms as the original Place.” However, the new series also provides an entry point for new audiences, such as Decision makerJoel Keller writes: “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will give adults who were fans of the original series the proper nostalgia hit, but it also provides more than enough laughs for kids who are entering this world for the first time.“
Many of the reviews mention how Selena Gomez’s Alex Russo doesn’t appear muchalthough it’s debatable whether this detracts from the series. ColliderMarisa Williams says: “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place May Be Losing It Without Selena Gomez,” although the series still “embraces nostalgia in all the right places” and as a result, “the magic returns mostly.” Similarly, VarietyAramide Tinubu calls this “a hilariously magical reboot, even if Selena Gomez isn’t around much.”
Instead of Selena Gomez’s Alex, David Henrie’s Justin is more the focus this time around, which, according to FlickDirectAllison Rose, it’s”the same goofy, dorky, lovable older brother we remember from the original Wizards of Waverly Place.” However, every critic is not completely in agreement about the sequence of the series, as Discussing FilmBeatrine Shahzad says this “doesn’t exactly recreate what made Wizards of Waverly Place so special. However, this new series casts a comforting magic of its own..” Now this Wizards Beyond Waverly Place premiered, the public can watch the series and form their opinions.
