James Gunn responded to Victoria Pedretti being cast as Harley Quinn from the Batman universe and I’m really upset that this rumor was debunked

James Gunn recently addressed a Harley Quinn launching rumor for Matt Reeves Batman universe, and I’m sad that Victoria Pedretti isn’t actually playing the DC character. Since debuting in Batman: The Animated Series, Harley Quinn has seen her popularity soar over the years. She has appeared in numerous major stories and events across comics, video games, animation, live-action, and more. It was with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in 2016 Suicide Squad that the character truly became a worldwide sensation, with many calling for this version to be a canon character in the DCU.

So far, James Gunn’s new DC Universe has yet to reveal its plans for Harley. The franchise’s creative head has said in the past that he wants to work with Robbie again, but at that time, there was there are no plans for her to play Harley Quinn in a future projectnor for another actress to take on the role in the DCU. That being said, there is another live-action franchise that could use a new Harley. Bruce Wayne by Robert Pattinson and Batman the trilogy will continue to be part of DC’s Elseworlds films, and a big Harley Quinn rumor has emerged for the franchise.

James Gunn debunked the rumor about casting Harley Quinn from the Batman universe

Victoria Pedretti was the actress in question

Batman – Part II was supposed to be released in October 2025. However, the film was delayed for a year due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes. With the delay and expansion of the franchise through more possible TV spinoffs like HBO’s The penguinRumors began to emerge about which characters could be coming to the franchise. The most recent of them suggested that You star Victoria Pedretti was in talks to play Harley Quinn in Batman universewithout directly mentioning which project the actress would appear in.

This aroused my curiosity, as Harley Quinn could make sense for more projects than just Batman – Part IIlike the Arkham Asylum series that would have been discarded. However, before I could get my hopes up about a return to Arkham, James Gunn debunked the Harley Quinn rumor. When asked about the rumor about Victoria Pedretti being cast in Batman universe, Gunn stated: “It is not [true].” Interestingly, the director did not investigate whether Harley Quinn could be coming to Batman universe soon, which may not mean anything, but I remain hopeful.

I’m upset because Victoria Pedretti would make a great Harley Quinn

Pedretti’s previous roles show she would be perfect

Although Gunn debunked the rumor, it’s disappointing because Harley Quinn may not be coming Batman universe soon or at all, the worst part for me is that Victoria Pedretti is not in talks to play Harley. From the moment I heard the rumor, I was excited because the actress fits the character perfectly. Netflix You is the perfect show to explain why Pedretti has what it takes to play Harley Quinn. In the series, she played Love Quinn alongside Penn Badgley’s Joe Goldberg.

My favorite Victoria Pedretti roles

Incredible stories

Love started out as a seemingly innocent character, with the series slowly peeling back her layers to reveal what would become an unpredictable killer. Pedretti was always right in the role, being able to display the charismatic, insane and dangerous aspects of the character that also fit perfectly with Harley Quinn. Node Haunting franchise, where Pedretti appeared in two different roles, she cemented her status as a Harley contender. I believe her turn as Nell in The Haunting of Hill House was specifically great for that, like her character had the same curiosity and tragic spirit as Harley.

Will the Batman Universe feature Harley Quinn?

It would make sense for the franchise

Whether with Victoria Pedretti or someone else in the role, I am convinced that Batman universe could see Harley Quinn’s debut before it’s over. In the end, BatmanThe ending of introduced the franchise’s version of the Joker. Although the character only had a few lines in the film, a deleted scene was later released showing the best look we have at Barry Keoghan’s Joker. While not much is known about Batman’s version of the villain, The Joker is in Arkham Asylumand this could lead to the debut of Harley Quinn.

Batman – Part II or another project within the shared universe could adapt the classic story of how Harley and the Joker met, with Keoghan’s Batman villain manipulating and transforming doctor Harleen Quinzel at his most famous self. The only major change I believe would need to be made is to tone down Harley Quinn a bit. Batman The universe is too gritty and grounded for the usual version of Harley. However, as Matt Reeves helped develop a darker version of her recently for Batman: Caped CrusaderI’m sure he could do Harley Quinn work in Batman universe.
