Work is halfway through the animated series
With little news emerging since the new animated series was announced, the latest update confirms that The Mighty Nein It’s half done. As reported by PC Gamer, Critical Role cast member and CEO Travis Willingham spoke candidly about the series’ progress, saying “It’s definitely more than half over, and I think everyone will be very moved by the result.” Willingham mentioned that the writing is complete and that it was sent to the animator, who will then design the look of the show.

“We’ve written the entire first season. The storyboards are all being locked in, if they haven’t already. So we’re going to our overseas studio. We’re getting animation tests and seeing things come back into color. We’ve designed all the characters. Magic spells and effects are being considered. “So it’s definitely more than halfway done and I think everyone will be really excited about the result.”

Prime Video gives the show the green light in 2023
Coming off the success of Critical Roleanimated series, The Legend of Vox Machina, Prime Video quickly greenlit The Mighty Nein in early 2023 (through Variety). At the time, it was confirmed that the voice cast would return to reprise their roles from the original. Dungeons and Dragons campaign, but little else was revealed outside of what was apparent in the original Powerful Nein history. To announce the new program, Prime Video released a brief clip which featured campaign choice lines highlighting a dramatic scene of the gaming table used in Critical Role.
Since then, few details have emerged about the upcoming animated series, but it was announced in October 2024 that writing and storyboards are completeand that things were sent to the animators. There’s no telling how long the animation process will take, and no release window has been provided. An approximate animated sequence was released in July 2024 which shows the first meeting between Fjord and Jester.

The familiar voices of Critical Role return
Very similar to the cast of The Legend of Vox Machinathe next Powerful Nein series will be voiced by the original actors from the Critical Role campaign. This means that eagle-eyed viewers will recognize the vocal talents of Travis Willingham as half-orc sorcerer Fjord Stone, alongside Laura Bailey as tiefling cleric Jester Lavorre. Liam O’Brien will appear as Caleb Widogast, a human wizard, while Sam Riegel plays the elf rogue, Nott the Brave. Ashley Johnson plays the barbarian Yasha Nydoorin, and Marisha Ray will play Beauregard “Beau” Lionett, a human monk.
Taliesin Jaffe will likely pull double duty as Mollymauk “Molly” Tealeaf and Caduceus Clay, while a new role will likely be dreamed up for Critical Role Dungeon Master, Matthew Mercer. It’s unclear who will appear in supporting roles throughout the series.but the original Prime Video will likely turn to familiar voice actors from Vox Machine also.

However The Mighty Nein is a quintessence Dungeons and Dragons campaign, it differentiates itself The Legend of Vox Machina because of its cleverly conceived political stories and richer characters. The basic premise of the campaign is that a band of adventurers are tasked with crossing the continent of Wildemount while trying to prevent an all-out war between the Dwendalian Empire and the Kryn Dynasty. This opens the door for exciting action, but also introduces subplots relating to political corruption.
In addition to all this, Adventurers must stop the god of eternal darkness, Tharizdûn, from escaping his prison and plunging humanity into an apocalypse.
