Editor Oni Press takes the next big step in its “Nacelleverse” with the debut of its new Sectauros series, a modernization of the legendary 1980s franchise. Joining Motorcycle rats from Mars, Lords of Powerand more in the rapidly expanding shared continuity, Sectauros promises to be the most impactful piece of the puzzle yet.
Screen Rant is pleased to share an exclusive preview of Sectauros #1 – written by Dennis Culver, with art by Ramon Bachs – which kicks off the three-issue miniseries revival of classic characters, starting with the franchise’s main protagonist, Prince Dargon.
First released as a toy line in 1985, Sectauros was famously the subject of a limited series comic book adaptation by Marvel Comics that same year, a legacy that the creators of this new incarnation of Oni Press are proud to build on.
Oni Press revives 80s icons SECTAURS are the latest addition to the growing “Nacelleverse” line
Sectauros #1 – Covers by Ramon Bachs, Adam Pollina, Francis Portela, A,J. Jothikumar and Dustin Weaver
Sectauros is set to be a stellar sci-fi fantasy saga, which will continue to expand on the already ambitious world of the Nacelleverse, the unified fictional world started by Oni Press as a response to Skybound Entertainment’s Energon Universe, which had success combining GI Joe and Transformers in a shared and rebooted canon. Nacelleverse is a way to bring new life to obscure and beloved nostalgic properties – with Sectauros being the last title of the launch initiative, by author Dennis Culver.
Culver had this to say about the project:
I’m so thrilled to help Nacelle and Oni reinvent SECTAURS for the 21st century! The Symbion Warriors are unlike anything you’ve ever seen in comics. It’s GAME OF THRONES, but with BUGS instead of dragons!
Described as “fast rising star” by Oni Press, Culver is one of several authors facing the exciting task of taking characters with recognizable designs, but smaller pop culture footprints beyond that, and offering the definitive vision of them to a new generation of comic book fans. Sectauros is set to take a prominent place in the overall trajectory of Nacelleverse, which means this three-issue miniseries is sure to be packed with story and action this will have far-reaching consequences.
SECTAURS, from Oni Press, continues the legacy of the underrated 1980s Marvel series
Sectauros #1 (of 3) – Available October 30, 2024 from Oni Press
As Hunter Gorinson, president and publisher of Oni Press, noted in the company’s press release before Sectauros The debut of number 1, the impact of the 80s Sectauros Marvel Comics series has not been forgotten. Gorinson explained:
Of the many beloved properties in the NacelleVerse, SECTAURS holds a special place of reverence for anyone who was first introduced to these characters in the pages of their original Marvel Comics series by legendary creators Bill Mantlo and Mark Texeira. It’s a great joy to see them come back to life in a spectacularly raucous and exhilarating way at the hands of Dennis Culver and Ramon Bachs – two creators with a penchant for fusing science fiction, fantasy and sky-high heroism into pure comic book spectacle.
Although the Oni Press series is not directly connected to Marvel’s iteration of Sectaurosthe creative team of Culver and Bachs will hold the previous title as the standard they hope to meet – and surpass quickly, as they carve out an entirely new, contemporary narrative from the baseline of the franchise’s existing mythology.
This taste for the Marvel series and the original Sectauros toy line, will be a starting point for the series, but can be expected to go beyond what fans already know about the characters before too long. The preview for Sectauros #1 suggests as much, effectively layering exposition and intrigue as the miniseries reintroduces the franchise’s main setting and characters while also establishing overarching plots and mysteries this will likely continue to happen beyond the three issues of this initial series.
Nacelleverse is expanding rapidly – but readers can still get in on the ground floor

According to Nacelle CEO and founder Brian Volk-Weiss:
Sectaurs is an important piece of the overall Nacelleverse story and we are thrilled to finally be able to kick off this exciting story with our friends at Oni Press. We want to pay homage to the rich history of the Sectaurs, and issue #1 is an important first step in that direction.
Your mention of “general history of the Nacelleverse” is especially intriguing; although the individual pieces of shared continuity have begun to fall into place, it is not yet clear how they will come together into a grand unified narrative. However, now readers know that Sectauros will have a fundamental role to play in the progression of this plot, as well as in the more general project of nurturing a sustainable fictional universe so that all these franchises operate for a long time.
Nacelle and Oni Press have committed to a patient path forward with Nacelleverse.
