The next Superman (2025)
film will be a new beginning for the UDC
and director James Gunn has already promised that it won’t be long before the trailer is shared with the world. James Gunn began working with Warner Bros. in DC films in 2018. His work on The Suicide Squad led to the popular writer and director having the opportunity to further expand on these characters with the show Peacemakerbefore being announced as the new co-CEO of DC Studios in 2022, and tasked with reinventing the entire DCEU.
As a result, Gunn laid out plans to start over and build a DCU from scratch, and just like DC Comics, that meant starting with Superman. THE the film was announced shortly after Gunn was hiredand in 2025, the film will finally be released to kick off the DCU’s theatrical branch. However, outside of a few posters and images, the film is still a mystery in terms of what will be featured alongside David Corenswet’s Superman.

James Gunn is known for being active on social media. Throughout much of his career, Gunn has been one of the most vocal creatives in terms of responding to fans and burning questions. This led to the revelation of many small details, and the director is happy to connect with fans in this way. Thanks to this active social presence, Gunn revealed in late October 2024 that the Superman trailer was not yet complete (via Topics). However, despite the trailer not being complete, the the director mentioned that he had worked on the trailer that weekend. Evidently, this means the trailer will likely be released soon. Filming for Superman finished at the end of July 2024, which means the editing and post-production parts are well underway. But a trailer wouldn’t be released or even worked on long before the film was reasonably finished.

Superman’s Marketing Campaign Will Be Huge
Although the trailer is in the production process, Gunn also revealed that it wouldn’t be long before it was released to the public. While attending NYCC for the upcoming DCU animated series, Creature CommandsGunn discussed some details about the upcoming Superman film, and the possibility of a trailer being scrapped. Of course, it’s possible that fans have I was hoping for a trailer Superman to be shared at NYCCwhich highlights why Gunn was so careful to say the trailer hadn’t been made yet, but clearly indicated the plan was to release it soon.

Since the film is set to be released in theaters starting July 11, 2025, it would make sense to start the big marketing push about three months before the film. This ensures they can gain momentum. However, teasers for big films like this are known to be released early. In fact, WBD Networks executive Kathleen Finch recently commented that the marketing campaign for Superman it’s going to be hugecomparing it with Barbie marketing with many collaborations planned (via Variety). If that’s the case, the first Superman trailer could be released before the end of 2024 to allow time for the massive marketing campaign to come to fruition.

The first look at the DCU Superman universe
Obviously, the function of a trailer is to create excitement about a film, not to reveal everything. There are already a lot of details about the Superman movie that have been announced, including the casting of several central characters, the inclusion of different heroes and villains, so it makes sense that all of these previously announced characters could appear in the trailer. This means that Lex Luthor can be shown, the relationship between Clark Kent and Loisand even Krypto the Superdog.

However, the first trailer will likely provide yet another glimpse into the project, accompanied by incredibly well-chosen music, as Gunn often does in his films. Characters like Mr Terrific and Green Lantern can also be seen in the trailer, as they are expected to have very significant roles in the film. Aside from showcasing the cast, the look, style and feel of the film, and presumably some dialogue to add a complete narrative, the film’s biggest moments will likely be reserved for the actual release, but there’s still plenty to be excited about. in Superman which may appear in the trailer.
