Venom: The Last Dance introduced several new characters to the world of Marvel on the big screen, and its casting of Knull repeats an excellent trend from recent comic book films. The end of Poison 3 I’ve seen big, bad Knull teasing future appearances, though what those appearances might be remains to be seen. With everyone PoisonFrom the Easter Eggs and the film’s references, many suspect that the villain could be brought to the MCU. Whatever the case, there certainly appear to be plans for the character, making his casting that much more significant.
Actors playing multiple roles in superhero films are not rare, and some have played multiple roles even just in the MCU. Actors like Rhys Ifans are part of Poison 3cast, but even that seems to ignore his previous appearances as Curt Connors in the Spider-Man films. Artists from Ben Affleck to Christian Bale have played different characters from different superhero franchises with varying levels of success, and it looks like future plans for Venom and the other symbiotes will involve doing just that.
Venom: The Last Dance continues Andy Serkis’ successful casting in superhero films
Andy Serkis has been cast as Knull in the Sony universe
Venom: The Last Dance features a short performance by Andy Serkis as Knull. Knull is one of Marvel’s most powerful characters, and the villain’s cosmic abilities and terrifying history mean it takes a strong actor to play him effectively. With special effects set to play a major role, the hiring of Andy Serkis – the director of Venom: Let There Be Carnage – because the paper makes sense. The actor is already linked to Poison franchise and has an incredible resume of motion capture work in his past.
Serkis is perhaps best known for playing Gollum in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films. He became so acclaimed for his motion capture work that the actor came to be known as perhaps the best in the business.. From there, he devoted his body to roles such as King Kong in Peter Jackson’s titular film and Caesar in the Planet of the Apes reboot trilogy. Following that trajectory, although the actor has more recently appeared in live-action roles, he’s sure to do something compelling with Knull.
Andy Serkis has had several other roles in the superhero genre
The actor has played live-action roles in superhero films
Andy Serkis first entered the world of superhero cinema in 2015 Avengers: Age of Ultronwhere he played the character Ulysses Klaue. In one movement the Black Panther director regretted it, Serkis made his second appearance as the same character in that film, where his character was killed off, although another version appeared in And if…?. Serkis also played Alfred in Batmanand looks set to continue in the role in the upcoming sequel.
The actor has stood out in each of these roles. Serkis created a different kind of Alfred in Batman this doesn’t feel like previous iterations, and his screen time in the MCU has transformed a fairly disposable character into something exciting and compelling. Andy Serkis clearly has skill and commitment to the figures he portrays that allow you to extract something new and unique from each cast. It looks like Knull will follow this path, creating a memorable villain for Sony’s Marvel universe and potentially persisting in the role in future episodes.
Why Knull Might Be Andy Serkis’ Biggest Superhero Role Yet
Knull utilizes the best of Serkis’ abilities
Although Serkis has already appeared in four superhero films, it’s notable that none of them have been a motion capture role. While the actor clearly has the ability to perform and hold his own against other excellent actors, Serkis has gained fame for his proficiency and skill with motion capture. As a result, It’s exciting to see him taking on a role that utilizes this advancing technology. With that in mind, there’s incredible potential for what Andy Serkis could do in the role’s future.
Knull is set up to be a Avengers level threat, although where the character goes from here remains to be seen. Knull could appear in films like Kraven the Hunter or Spider-Man 4However, what seems more likely is that Sony has big plans for its own universe.. This could involve an Agent Venom storyline or something more symbiote-related that could lead to a Six Sinisters film. Whatever Sony’s plans are, Knull will certainly be a big part of that future trajectory.
Andy Serkis is an excellent actor and it’s exciting to see him in Venom: The Last Dance. Although he has little screen time in the new film, the filmmakers have already promised that more Knull will follow. Audiences eagerly anticipate what this means and what will be done with the character going forward. Whatever choices are made, Knull has the potential to be a major superhero villain in the future, and his short appearance in Venom: The Last Dance can prepare you for greatness.
Venom 3 is the third and final chapter in Sony’s symbiote trilogy, starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock. It follows the events of Let There Be Carnage, where the antihero fought serial killer Cletus Kasady, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Brock was briefly transported to the MCU across the multiverse.
