Star Wars Debuts Its New Elite Team of Rebel Heroes Born After the Original Film Trilogy

Warning: SPOILERS for Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising #2

Star Wars new series set after Return of the Jedi created a new team of rebel heroes. With the Empire having suffered its greatest defeat with the destruction of the second Death Star and the deaths of the Emperor and Darth Vader, the remaining Imperial leaders are largely torn between carrying out Palpatine’s last wishes and desperately maintaining their own power within the Empire. fractured. However, one Imperial in particular demands some special attention from the Rebellion-turned-New Republic.

In Rise of the Insurgency #2 by Alex Segura, Leonard Kirk and Rachelle Rosenberg, Mon Mothma and Leia Organa speak with intelligence officer Agent Behrens about the ongoing threat in the Anoat Sector, a region of space home to planets such as Bespin, Hoth and more worlds. Ruled by Moff Adelhard, the Imperial Governor chose to live in denial that the Empire was destroyed. With that in mind, Leia proposes that a small, elite team of rebels be formed to assess the situation:

Choosing a handful of new and old names, It will be very exciting to see what Leia’s most trusted and trusted agents will be able to accomplish as a new squad of rebels in the Star Wars canon.

Leia knows that only the best will be enough to face Moff Adelhard

A complete blockade of the Anoat sector

Leia's proposal to deal with Adelhard

The Anoat sector is a very large section of the Star Wars galaxy, which certainly deserves the attention of the nascent New Republic, considering it is still being oppressed by imperial rule. That said, the galaxy is still shaken by the major aftershocks that occurred in the wake of the Battle of Endor, such as Operation Cinder, the Emperor’s posthumous bombing orders to punish the galaxy for his death. To that end, an initial squad of trusted rebels to assess the situation with Adelhard makes sense.

Overall, Leia’s new team is pretty impressive. The first is Kes Dameron, father of future Resistance hero Poe Dameron and one of the Rebellion’s elite Pathfinders. Kes worked closely with Leia after the Battle of Hoth during the Galactic Civil War, as did his wife Shara Bey (Poe’s mother).

Kes is also joined by Rynn Zenat, who was once inside Adelhard’s “Iron Blockade”. As such, she should be able to provide valuable information on future issues. The third is mechanic and jack of all trades Jarek Yaeger, who Star Wars fans may recognize from the animated series Star Wars Resistance. Last but not least is newcomer and intelligence agent Therisa Alern, who Leia considers someone willing to get her hands dirty.

Leia’s rebel team is already facing its first major challenge

Zeva Bliss and Kijimi’s Spice Runners

While on the way to the Anoat sector the issue ends with this new team of rebel agents surrounded by none other than Zeva Bliss and Kijimi’s Spice Runners who agreed to help Adelhard and his Iron Blockade. As such, this impending conflict should prove to be quite fascinating, especially considering that Kes’ son Poe eventually becomes a Spice Runner alongside Zeva’s daughter Zorrii. Regardless, it’s clear that Leia’s hand-picked team of Rebels will face quite a challenge as this new Star Wars the series continues.
