What the New Creature Commandos trailer reveals about the first DC Universe show
A thematically fitting intro to Gunn’s franchise
One of the big takeaways from the Creature Commandos Trailer is the fact that Amanda Waller will be put on a new path. Despite the DC Universe being a reboot, parts of Amanda’s story are still considered canon in the franchise, As you follow from peace maker Season 1 immediately establishes the reason she creates the Creature Commandos team. While not a new Suicide Squad, per se, the footage confirms that the DCU won’t shy away from telling R-rated stories.
However, rather than focusing on villains and metahumans, The last one Creature Commandos Trailer puts more emphasis on this being more of an antihero-driven team. There’s also a new focus on the supernatural and monster side of the new franchise, which is fitting since DC Universe Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” is all about those themes. With major villains like Circe also coming into the animated series, they are also tapping into the God aspect of the DC Universe.
