Eddie scared Buck (and the audience) during the 9-1-1 season 8's fall finale when he started looking for houses for sale in Texas, and a recurring character is to blame for his plan to change. Ryan Guzman's character has been trying to find ways to connect with his son, Christopher (who now lives in Texas with his grandparents), all season. However, the distance took its toll on Eddie. As a result, Eddie may leave 9-1-1 during Season 8, devastating Buck and all the viewers who love him.
9-1-1 season 8 will return with episode 9 on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 8 pm ET on ABC.
Buck's reaction to Eddie's potential 9-1-1 the departure will undoubtedly be painful, especially if he goes through with the move. Still, Eddie's desire to leave Los Angeles is understandable. He wants to be close to Christopher to continue repairing their relationship and ensure they don't grow too far apart. Eddie has felt the physical and emotional distance between him and Christopher growing in 9-1-1 8th season, and a character encouraged him to do whatever it takes to stop it in episode 8, “Wannabes.”
Brad's talk about his son totally convinced Eddie to move to Texas on 9-1-1
A candid conversation with Brad, deeply affected Eddie
Callum Blue's recurrence 9-1-1 Season 8 character Brad Torrance was the one who convinced Eddie to take the leap and move to Texas during the mid-season finale. Brad is an actor who stars Important photos, a fictional firefighter TV show. Bobby served as a consultant on the set of Important photoswhich is how Brad considers 9-1-1 season 8 story.
In 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 8, Brad and Eddie have a heart-to-heart about their respective strained relationships with their children. Brad prioritized his career over his son, which he deeply regrets. Then, Brad warned Eddie, “Don’t let the distance between you grow another inch,” in reference to his separation from Christopher. Eddie took that advice to heart, which is why Buck caught him looking at houses in Texas on the internet. Eddie doesn't want to walk away from his son like Brad did. To avoid this, Eddie believes he must move to Texas to be closer to Christopher.
Eddie is really coming off 118 and 9-1-1
ABC has not confirmed Ryan Guzman's departure
The good news (at least for viewers who want Eddie to stay) is that neither ABC nor the 9-1-1 the team confirmed Ryan Guzman's departure from the series. Instead, they are dancing around issues related to the actor's departure. While talking to Screen speechshowrunner Tim Minear addressed the 9-1-1 season 8 cliffhanger. He explained:
"I would say, let's talk about [Eddie]. The character is very serious about doing whatever it takes to repair his relationship with his son. And that's why we're not throwing friends into the water to attract controversy. This is actually what this character is thinking about doing, and he means it. And we’ll explore that when we get back.”
The idea of Eddie de Guzman leaving 9-1-1 remains possible based on Minear's comments. However, if he was actually leaving the ABC procedural drama, one would think his exit would have been officially announced or confirmed. It appears that Minear and co. they are keeping the door open for Eddie's exit to create intrigue around the next 9-1-1 episodes of season 8, but only time will tell what the future holds for Guzman's character.
