Hollywood is lucky to have a highly imaginative writer, director and actor Taika Waititi
planning to bring his vision to several more intriguing projects in the coming years. Waititi was an up-and-coming director at the time he was tasked with helming the latest Thor film for the MCU and shocked everyone when it completely remade and reinvigorated the established tone of the subseries. Since then, Waititi has created and starred in several other unusual projects.
This includes the Best Picture nominee Jojo Coelhoand the highly acclaimed but unfortunately canceled pirate series Our flag means death. Easily capable of starring in TV shows that balance comedy and drama, as well as blockbusters, everyone is excited to see what Waititi does nextfollowing his alleged involvement in future anime film adaptations as well as future book adaptations.

Klara and the Sun

Waititi took on the monumental task of directing Nobel Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel Klara and the Sun, about an artificial human brought in to be a companion to a grieving family, dealing with a lot of heavy thematic material.
Waititi wisely brought in Jenna Ortega to play the titular character, as well as Amy Adams. The film has been given an unspecified 2025 release date with little additional news, but confirmed cast and filming reports suggest they are on schedule.

The Incal

Waititi appears to be nostalgic for his time in the MCU when it comes to The Incaldescribed as a “epic space opera” about a private investigator who comes into possession of a powerful and highly sought-after artifact. It was reported in 2021 (via Deadline) that Waititi has signed on to adapt Alejandro Jodorowsky’s graphic novel, hopefully bringing back a wacky sense of humor and stimulating visuals – although the film hasn’t moved forward with production since.

There’s also little information about Waititi’s direct title project Jameswhich was only announced in 2024 (via THR). This film will be based on the novel of the same name by Percival Everett, a reimagining of Huckleberry Finn from Jim’s perspective. Everett Erasure was adapted into the Oscar nominee American Fictiondrawing attention and other great creatives to his additional literary works. While Waititi directs the film, Steven Spielberg will serve as executive producer.

Flash Gordon

Waititi is also getting involved in the nostalgic reboot trend, billed as the writer of the 1980s remake. Flash Gordon a few years ago. Although recently the Flash Gordon reboot received an uncertain update after three years from a seemingly uninterested producer, potentially not Waititi’s top priority with several other projects on his schedule. Flash Gordon there is also no confirmed director yet, with Waititi working only as a writer.

Before him Thor days, Waititi wrote, directed and starred in 2014 What we do in the shadows, which gave rise to the 2019 spinoff series of the same name. Now, Waititi is working on another mockumentary comedy titled We are wolvesdetailing the lives of a group of werewolves in New Zealand. Original What we do in the shadows co-director, writer and star Jemaine Clement is also returning to the project to show how much they have both evolved as creators over the past decade. However, the film was announced in 2019 with no updates since (via HQ).

Waititi is not only an incredible writer and director, and he is also rumored to be in talks to star in FUCK!based on the children’s book of the same name by David Walliams (via Deadline). The story follows a pair of desperate parents who set out in search of a “Fing” to his spoiled daughter after she demands one, taking them on a wild, whimsical adventure in a jungle – a highly imaginative take on childhood that’s right up Waititi’s alley.

Taikai Waititi Star Wars It’s more than likely that the film will be his next project that will receive the most attention from Hollywood, given the very nature of the franchise, whose cinematic future has been uncertain since the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga.
Ideas for several upcoming Star Wars Films have been released with several extremely famous directors attached to them. Yet Waititi’s promise to direct a Star Wars the film creates a lot of anticipation when it can result in an entirely new vision of the setting the franchise needs it.
