Given that councilors perform public-facing political functions, this should have been the revelation Linda needed. It appears that she is not up to date with local politics and has therefore once again neglected to understand her children’s growing positions of power in the world. Although Candace also has aspirations in life, hers seem more realistic to Linda, including her mayor for a day moment. She usually believes Candace about other things, which makes his lack of belief in Candace’s attempts to arrest her brothers all the more humorously unrealistic.

Again, because Candace is very transparent with her mother about her life, including her fights with her best friend Stacy (Kelly Hu) and her relationship with her boyfriend Jeremy, It wouldn’t make sense for Candace to make this up. Candace is an ordinary teenager who likes going to the movies, reading books, and spending time with her crush and friends. As she rarely participates in her brothers’ bizarre projects, her imagination would not run as wild as Linda often claims about her children, and therefore her reasoned point of view might have been reliable before.
Candace also doesn’t invent anything else in her lifesometimes even to the dismay of his mother. Given her honesty, it also wouldn’t make sense for her to make up lies about her siblings, since she doesn’t make up lies about her own relationships or responsibilities.
