Could Star Wars take a cue from Legends?

There is, however, another interesting possibility – one that Disney could also take from Legends. In 2006, Dark Horse Comics introduced readers to Star Wars: Legacy – an exciting vision of the future of Star Wars galaxy, rooted in the tradition of George Lucas, but beautifully reimagined. This was a time when the Sith rose from the shadows and extinguished the Jedi’s light, with the last Skywalker – Cade – against them. It was an exciting opportunity to reinvent familiar concepts and concepts.

Interestingly, this wasn’t the first time Lucasfilm toyed with revealing the future of the Star Wars Galaxy. An original idea for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was centered in a distant future in which the Jedi and Sith formed an uneasy truce and were ruled by a single Council; There, the last Skywalker would be accused of a crime he didn’t commit, and all evidence would point to a member of the Council… with the surname Solo. Recent years have delighted viewers with the return of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen to the iconic roles of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader. The scrapped Obi Wan Kenobi trilogy would have told the story of how Obi-Wan evolved as a character in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith until A New Hope. Darth Vader doesn’t really have room for a massive emotional arc, so this would need some very careful writing.

The possibilities are endless

We know a lot about Star Wars timeline, but it’s possible the franchise is going where it’s never gone before. The first possibility lies in the Unknown Regions, a vast sector of unexplored space. As Timothy Zahn Thrawn: Ascension – Rise of Chaos explains:

“Chaos wasn’t always like this, or so the legends said. In the past, at the beginning of space travel, it was no more difficult to move between any of the stars than it is now to travel in Ascension. Then, millennia ago, a series of chain supernova explosions across the region caused enormous masses to fall at high speed between the stars, some of them demolishing asteroids or entire worlds, others triggering more supernovae with their impacts approaching the speed of light. These masses, along with regions of strong electromagnetic flux, resulted in constantly changing hyperroutes that made any journey longer than a few star systems difficult and dangerous.”

This part of Star Wars The galaxy is commonly associated with the blue-skinned Chiss (think Grand Admiral Thrawn), but there are actually countless inhabitants. Simon Kinberg could tell any story he wanted in the Unknown Regionsand he could create any new Force cult he wanted. The opportunities are literally limitless.

But there are even more possibilities after the end of the Ahsoka season 1. This took the franchise further than George Lucas had imagined, with Ahsoka traveling to the planet Peridea in a distant galaxy. The recently published Star Wars Vol. 1 Bestiary suggested that Peridea became public knowledge after Ahsoka’s journey there, so it’s possible Future stories could be set in this new galaxy. If so, Star Wars it could really go in unexpected new directions.
