It's even harder than it seems
In Skeleton Crew episode 6, KB's struggle with her augmentation is on full display, mainly because of the toll her adventures have taken on her and her cybernetic implant. Not only does she have a hard time confessing to Fern and the others that she isn't able to do everything they can because of this, but she also also has to talk to Wim about helping her with a life-saving procedure on her implant when her dysfunction leaves her unable to move. It's an extremely devastating moment, but also sincere and tender.
The Skeleton Crew Made This Star Wars Disability So Real
It's an extremely vulnerable time
Lobot didn't have enough of a spotlight to show what it really meant to be a human with an increase in The Empire Strikes Backand finally, Star Wars showed how difficult it really can be. It wasn't shown well with clone trooper Echo in Star Wars: The Bad Batch as well, after the addition of heavy cybernetics and a removable implant that helped him embrace what the Techno Union made him into. KB is therefore the first major example of how impactful this increase can be, especially when it is not added by choice.
KB mentions a "accident" to Wim in reference to his cybernetic implant, apparently inferring that there was a time when KB didn't need or have the implant. KB continues to struggle with the consequences of the accidentciting that she had no friends after the changes made to her - paralyzing her with fear that even Fern would turn her back if she realized that KB could no longer do the same things as her. Skeleton Crew He thus showed, in a perfectly vulnerable way, the whole truth of this disability, 44 years after Lobot.
