In February 2020, Ryan Murphy announced the film’s cast. American Horror Story: Double Feature, but some changes occurred when it was time to film. The cast includes beloved show veterans Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Finn Wittrock and Kathy Bates. However, due to the impact of COVID-19 and isolation procedures, the season did not premiere until August 2021. Despite the long list of popular actors returning this season, there was one actor who was noticeably absent from the season, Kathy Bates. .
It soon became clear that the role originally slated to be played by Kathy Bates had been taken over by AHS veteran Frances Conroy. All we’ve been told about Bates’ character is that she’ll share a crazy, intimate scene with Macaulay Culkin’s character Mickey. When I saw this scene with Frances Conroy, it was clear that she had taken over the character. Although I didn’t get to see Kathy Bates on screen again in American Horror Story Universe, I was glad that Frances Conroy got the role of Belle Noire. instead of.
Kathy Bates was originally cast as Belle Noire in American Horror Story: Red Tide
Kathy Bates hasn’t appeared on the show since the show’s eighth season.
One of the most interesting characters American Horror Story: Red Tide was Belle Noir. She was a successful romance novelist who fed on human blood. Kathy Bates was originally supposed to play the character, but due to delays and postponements of the show’s filming due to COVID the role was recast and given to Frances Conroy instead.. There were rumors that Kathy Bates left the project due to other commitments and personal problems, but these rumors were never confirmed.
Kathy Bates was not seen in American Horror Story starting with the show’s eighth season. I was initially really looking forward to her returning to the series as Belle Noire. However, since the character was recast, Bates never appeared in another season of the show. Unfortunately, given the recent talk of Kathy Bates’ retirement from acting, it’s unlikely we’ll see her appear on the show again. However, Ryan Murphy was able to take Jessica Lange out of the series.
Belle Noir brilliantly inspired Frances Conroy and moved away from her past AHS characters
This role made me see Frances Conroy in a different light.
Although I was disappointed that Kathy Bates left American Horror Story: Double FeatureI was very pleased that Frances Conroy took on the role. I’ll always be curious what the role would have been like if Kathy Bates had played this character, but Conroy played the role to perfection. I hated this heroine and loved her at the same time. She was funny and dangerous, just what a good villain should be. Conroy also made viewers feel sorry for the character in her flashback sequence.

In the past, Frances Conroy’s other roles in the series, such as Moira O’Hara or Myrtle Snow, were very quiet and good-natured characters. They were caring and always did the right thing. Even her slightly darker roles like Shachat or Gloria Mott weren’t evil, they both seemed to just fade into the background in the drama and Gloria just allowed the dark events to happen in her season.
She herself was not evil. I was impressed by Conroy’s appearance in Red Tide because she stepped out of her comfort zone. and played one of the creepiest and scariest people in the series. This was something I hadn’t seen Frances Conroy do before on the show.
Kathy Bates’ character in AHS season 8 already looked a lot like Belle Noire
Ms. Mead’s aesthetic was very similar to Belle Noir
If Kathy Bates actually played Belle Noire, it could be very similar to her portrayal of Miss Meade in Apocalypse. Mrs. Mead was an evil worshiper of Satan who helped the Antichrist and performed human sacrifices. Belle Noire also had a dark secret: she could only live on human blood. She also saw it as a sacrifice and only drank the blood of terrible people to rid the world of people who “deserved” it.
[…] it would be too similar to Miss Mead and would take away from the originality of the character.
Even Belle’s makeup and jewelry were very similar to Miss Meade in season 8. This is why I’m glad Kathy Bates didn’t play Belle Noire in American Horror Story: Double Feature. If she had played the role, she would have been too similar to Miss Mead and would have taken away from the originality of the character and the acting talent of Kathy Bates. At the same time, Frances Conroy was given a chance to shine and break out of the safe character roles she had played previously in the series.
