Mr. Plankton is one among the large number of K-dramas added to Netflix in 2024. While many of the K-dramas joining the streamer in 2024 were more action or thriller in nature, this one is absolutely a comedy.
The series follows a man who discovers he has a terminal illness while taking one last trip. Forced to accompany him on this journey is a woman the series calls the “unluckiest bride-to-be.” a woman for whom nothing seems to work out. She is also his ex.
While the premise seems like a recipe for tragedy, it’s also a recipe for the comedy that can accompany it. The trip is, of course, a disaster, as hilarity and misfortune ensue. It’s the kind of show that makes the audience see how worth living there is, even with all the bad things that can accompany the good.

Stories about rivals finding common ground are very common in K-dramas. This one, however, takes the rivalry from school days into adulthood and allows the characters to connect with a new perspective.
In Doctor Falltwo adults work in the medical field. They consistently competed for the top ranks in their classes when they were at school, but as adults, they both suffered declines in their careers at the same time. While one is diagnosed with depression and has difficulty finding joy in work, the other is sued for medical malpractice after a mistake made during surgery. Despite the heavy themes, the show manages to find comedy in its situations and in its reconnection.
There are frank discussions about mental health, but there are also awkward romantic comedy encounters that help balance out the series’ darker moments. These two sides of the relationship help make the show more true to life, even when strange situations arise.

With the influx of thrillers in K-dramas in recent years, it may come as no surprise to audiences that most comedies are of the rom-com variety. In case of Love next doorthe series leans heavily on the friends-to-lovers trope, with some fantastic results.
The central characters here have been friends for years, but are separated by physical distance as one of them lives in the United States and the other in South Korea. When the two return to their hometown in Korea, they are able to quickly reconnect and return to have an easy friendship that they had as children. Of course, because this is a romantic comedy, this easy friendship is buoyed by the romance just beneath the surface.
Viewers looking for pure comedy here should be warned that there are some heavier dramatic moments despite the show’s fun premise.

It has to be one of the most absurd premises for a K-drama in recent years, but it works.
Not all K-dramas are based on situational comedy or romance. Some take a more absurd approach. For fans interested in this, there is the interesting and slightly ridiculous Chicken Nugget. The series is inspired by the webtoon of the same name. It has elements of mystery, road trip comedy, and science fiction all rolled into one.
Chicken Nugget sees a young woman use a machine at her workplace, believing it is a new invention intended to help alleviate fatigue. Instead of, the machine turns it into a chicken nugget. Her father and an intern (who also has a huge crush on her) go on a journey to keep her safe and return her to human form.
It has to be one of the most absurd premises for a K-drama in recent years, but it works. While there are definitely some sinister elements underlying the story, the adventure itself is wacky and hilarious.

One of the most interesting aspects of the series is examining three generations of a family of strong women.
This K-drama serves as a spinoff of the very popular Strong girl Bong-soon. Although the series has elements of a superhero story, it is also a family drama and has some very funny stories.
The series follows a woman who disappeared as a child. As an adult, she returns to South Korea and sets out in search of her family. When she meets her mother, a successful businesswoman, and her grandmother, it doesn’t take her long to reconnect with either of them before all three end up involved in a drug case that is being investigated.
One of the most interesting aspects of the series is examining three generations of a family of strong women. Each of the women has their own stories throughout the series. The tone is also much lighter than its predecessor, acting closer to parody than simple comedy.

In your heart, Hospital Playlist It’s more of a drama than a comedy. Set in a hospital, it has more in common with shows like Grey’s Anatomy than other K-dramas, as a result of the main cast of characters being doctors who work in different departments of the same hospital, but who also became friends years earlier in medical school. That being said, the show is still full of hilarious moments.
The hilarity largely comes from the chemistry of the main cast.. Even dealing with a broken marriage or a big career change, the group of friends still has time to try to form a band with their terrible lead singer. Hospital Playlist is a touching and funny K-drama. He also received a number of award nominations in South Korea, earning most of his praise for his original soundtrack performances.

K-dramas are known to last around an hour. This runtime is sometimes longer for shows made exclusively for streaming. However, they are not typically created in a sitcom format. So it’s not worth it is the first Korean sitcom made for Netflix and has helped revive interest in the sitcom format in South Korea with its 35-minute episodes.
The series, set at a university, features a group of students from different countries who live and learn together. The combination of elements from traditional American sitcoms and K-dramas worked in the show’s favor as it received comparisons with Friends for the seemingly effortless banter and chemistry of its cast. Many of the cast who were not originally from South Korea also had to speak Korean for their roles, which impressed many critics.

Prison Manual It’s a much darker comedy than most of the other K-dramas here. The series revolves around a man who ends up in prison after trying to protect his sister from an attack. To complicate matters, he is actually a famous baseball player who ends up in prison just before leaving South Korea to play for an American team and the prison guard who monitors him is actually one of his best friends.
The comedy of the series comes from the main character being such a talented baseball player but being bad at pretty much everything in your life. His attempts to spend a year in prison are clumsy and hilarious. The fact that he and his best friend try to hide their relationship so that everyone thinks they are just prisoners and guards is the icing on the comedy cake.

Crash landing on you is a good starting point for those who want a mix of comedy and drama.

The series follows a Korean heiress whose paragliding trip goes horribly wrong when she crash lands in North Korea. In dangerous territory, she must rely on a kind guard to protect her and take her back to the South.
