Carrey is famously apprehensive about making sequels since the first one was a disaster. Of course, there were some exceptions. He reprized his role as Lloyd Christmas in the belated sequel Dumb and dumberand he appeared as Dr. Robotnik in all three Sonic the Hedgehog films. But Carrey, with the well-deserved freedom to make whatever films he wanted, became more enthusiastic about original projects as The cable guy.
