These are the heroes and villains capable of distorting the fundamental forces of reality and nature, performing feats such as terraforming planets, killing gods, and creating entirely new realities. However, there are still many incredibly powerful mutant characters who are not quite Omega level – characters who still manage to stand shoulder to shoulder with Marvel’s strongest human heroes.
Here are the 15 strongest Marvel mutants who aren’t officially Omega level but still pack an impressive punch that all fans should know about. We’ve put together a list of relative known and unknown faces, focusing on mutants who can hold their own against the best Avengers and Fantastic Foureven if there are Omega-level X-Men who outshine them.

Cyclops (aka Scott Summers)

Starting her life as a villain who brutally attacked Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel, Rogue has since become an important figure in X-Men lore. His ability to steal other people’s powers has only grown more and more, with Rick Remender and Daniel Acuña et al. Strange Avengers Vol. 1 see her drain the powers of all of Marvel’s main heroes to drive a Celestial away from Earth, saving the planet.
In recent comics, she also confirmed that she maintained the physical strength of both Captain Marvel and Wonder Man, making her one of the strongest Marvel beings in existence.

Michael Rasputin

Brother of iconic X-Men hero Colossus, Mikhail Rasputin is a mutant villain who can control subatomic matter. Mikhail can manipulate the energy-based powers of other mutants, allowing him to control the powers of heavy hitters like Iceman, Sunfire and Jean Gray. He is also capable of teleporting incredible distances, including between dimensions. Visiting alternate dimensions has given him additional powers, including powerful energy blasts and increased physical strength.

Solar Fire (also known as Shiro Yoshida)
Debuted in 1970’s X-Men #64
Despite joining the team alongside icons like Colossus and Wolverine, Sunfire soon left and has been an on-and-off ally of Xavier’s mutants ever since. It is capable of generating and controlling heat and radiation, to the point of being called the “Living Sun”. Sunfire’s feats include breaking Apocalypse’s Celestial technology armor, defeating Kang the Conqueror at the height of his power, and vaporizing millions of tons of metal in a feat that impressed even Thor.
Multiple Man has one of the greatest powers in X-Men tradition, transforming him into a genius spy, lawyer, doctor and scientist.

Magic (aka Illyana Rasputin)
Premiered in 1975 Giant-Size X-Men #1
Younger sister of Colossus and Mikhail, Magik was kidnapped during her childhood and raised in the demonic realm of Limbo. His true mutant power is to create teleportation discs that, when passing through Limbo, allow instantaneous teleportation across immense distances. However, Magik’s experiences in Limbo taught her magic, and she later conquered the kingdombecoming their leader and Sorcerer Supreme. In addition to mutant powers and magic, she also wields the ultra-powerful Soulsword, forged from her own innocence – a coveted weapon that can take down even the Silver Surfer.

The Multiple Man transforms kinetic energy into ‘dupes’ – copies of his body and mind that can operate independently and be reabsorbed at will. There is no real limit to how many idiots Multiple Man can create, and they are all autonomous people. This means that Multiple Man is effectively an army of one.
However, The most surprising aspect of Multiple Man’s powers is that when he absorbs a dupe, he gains all of their knowledge and experience. Madrox took advantage of this by sending various idiots to live different lives, then absorbing them to gain their abilities. The recent Krakoan Era has seen her double down on her commitment to the mutant cause and her own abilities, with incredible feats such as pulling the severed celestial head known as Knowhere through space. X-Men writers have suggested that, like her father, Polaris likely has Omega-level potential, although she isn’t quite there yet.
Gambit is incredibly powerful, with hints that he could destroy Galactus himself if he ever accessed his full potential.

Havok (aka Alexander Summers)
Premiered in 1969 X-Men #54
The less famous brother of Scott Summers’ Cyclops, Havok isn’t the leader or strategist his brother is, but he possesses even more raw power. Havok can absorb cosmic energy from the environment and release it as raw plasma, with much of his training and skill dedicated to limiting Your Mightiness. Havok is one of the few Marvel characters to have defeated the Hulk in single combat, and despite some rough patches, he is a talented hero, leading a version of X-Factor and fighting alongside Captain America’s Avengers Unity Squad.

She can speed up or slow down time within her bubbles and later discovered how to travel to the future and past. Marvel’s most powerful mutant, beyond-Omega Matthew Malloy, was only defeated because Tempus went back in time and made sure his parents never metchanging the entire Marvel timeline.

Negasonic Teenage Warhead (aka Eloise Phimister)
Premiered in 2001 New X-Men #115
Introduced as a victim of the Genoshan Sentinel attack in 2001, the creatively named Negasonic Teenage Warhead meant that fans never forgot her, and she has reappeared several times since. She gained prominence for Brianna Hildebrand’s performance in Dead Pool filmsNegasonic Teenage Warhead recently got his own solo series from Andrew Wheele and Carola Borelli, which completely redefined his powers.
Negasonic Teenage Warhead was introduced as a psychic mutant with precognitive powers, but later upgraded with new abilities. His solo comic established that although the hero and a precog, she can access other potential powers depending on which possible futures she chooses to seeincluding a world where she becomes the new Galactus. Negasonic Teenage Warhead is currently using the ability to summon a pocket dimension, but has access to theoretically infinite abilities.
Although he’s only an honorable mention here, Tank’s immense strength puts him on the same level as the Thing from the Fantastic Four – a step below the Hulk.

Northstar (aka Jean-Paul Beaubier)
Premiered in 1979 X-Men #120
Perhaps the fastest hero in Marvel history, Northstar is capable of traveling 189,299 miles per second – a feat that would incinerate everything in his path and, if he wanted to, “gargle the world in half with one turn.” An iconic member of Alpha Flight, Jean-Paul Beaubier was Marvel Comics’ first major gay character and starred in the publisher’s first gay wedding in 2012.
In addition to his speed, he can generate intense, blinding light and even channel the same energy into powerful blasts. Some stories suggest that Northstar is the son of a human and an elf, potentially explaining his pointy ears and immense power. Northstar’s speed also gives him the ability to fly and an impressive healing factor. With a world-destroying primal power and additional mutant abilities, Northstar is one of the most impressive mutant heroes not officially reaching the ‘Omega level’.

- Mirage (aka Danielle Moonstar) – A great leader among the younger generations of X-Men, Mirage has powers of illusion and later became a Valkyrie.
- Forge – A genius inventor who can build anything he can imagine, Forge has long been the X-Men’s most underrated mutant. However, from the recent Force X vol. 7Forge is now an official Omega mutant, having built a machine to take his powers to their fullest potential.
- Tank – Tank is an incredibly new figure in X-Men lore, introduced in 2024 Force X vol. 7. He has been considered the Thing’s equal in sheer strength, but so far lacks the talents to truly show it off.
- Wolverine (aka Logan, aka James Howlett) – Thanks to his adamantium claws and healing factor, Wolverine is a force to be reckoned with. Wolverine appears on many ‘Most Powerful X-Men’ lists, but ultimately he’s an underdog fighter, even if he’s very hard to kill.
