Mia Wallace’s best quotes show why Quentin Tarantino and Uma Thurman will go down in cinema history as one of the great actor-director duos. Your contributions are limited to pulp Fiction and both volumes of Kill Billbut that was enough to solidify his lasting legacy. pulp Fiction is one of Tarantino’s most cited films, full of memorable characters. Uma Thurman has played several different characters since her star turn pulp Fictionbut Mia Wallace is still one of her most memorable roles.
Mia Wallace’s long-winded dialogue perfectly matched Thurman’s articulate presenting style, while she had more than enough genuine coolness to show that Mia’s attitude was more than just acting, making her a true standout in the film. Although it appears at several points throughout pulp Fiction, Mia is really only in one segment, but she leaves a distinct impression. Thurman imbued the character with such an enigmatic charm that it’s impossible for fans of ’90s films not to know at least a few of Mia Wallace’s best quotes.

“In conversation, do you listen or wait to speak?”
Mia Wallace for Vincent Vega
This line is actually from a deleted scene, but it’s a shame it was cut because is one of Mia Wallace’s most thoughtful quotes. When people talk, they absorb what the other person is saying and use it as a springboard to provoke a deeper discussion, or they simply wait for the person to stop talking so they can say what they think.
Mia asks Vincent Vega (John Travolta): “In conversation, do you listen or wait to speak?”To which Vincent responds:“I have to admit that I wait to speak, but I’m trying harder to listen. It’s an interesting back-and-forth and not only shows what Mia thinks when she looks at life, but also gives some insight into Vincent Vega, as he spent much of the film learning from Samuel Jackson’s Jules about Zen and the need for it. really pay attention to others around you.

“When you little rascals get together, you’re worse than a sewing circle.”
Mia Wallace for Vincent Vega
When Vincent tells Mia about a rumor he heard about her, she tells him that he and his “little rascal” friends – in other words, the hired killers who work for her mob boss husband – are “worse than a sewing circle.” It’s a captivating and comedic look at Vincent’s profession, but it also serves as a stark reminder that people in his line of work have daily encounters with Marsellus Wallace’s (Ving Rhames) wife.
This is a cute look at the world of organized crime and the idea that the people involved are mostly busybodies who spread gossip, just like everyone else in the world. All the previous moment in the film that showed Vincent and Jules talking about the Samoan who was thrown out the window for possibly massaging Mia’s feet was a perfect example of how even these stone-cold killers love spreading rumors as much as the nosy Parkers involved in sewing circles.

“I want this trophy, so dance well.”
Mia Wallace for Vincent Vega
When Mia and Vincent are eating at Jack Rabbit Slim’s and the master of ceremonies announces the restaurant’s world-famous dance contest, Mia decides she wants to participate – and she wants to win. Winning a dance competition comes down to dancing well to win a trophy. Mia sums it up perfectly: “I believe Marsellus Wallace, my husband, your boss, told you to take me out and do whatever I wanted. Now, I want to dance, I want to win. I want that trophy, so dance well.”
This leads to one of the most iconic dance scenes of the 90s, and they really “dance well.” The quote is funny because Vincent Vega doesn’t really want to do this, but he knows he has to do whatever Mia wants on orders from her husband and Vincent’s boss. However, there is also another fun twist to this. John Travolta is known for his dance moves thanks to the film Saturday Night Feverso this gave Quentin Tarantino a chance to show off the actor’s skills in pulp Fiction.

“For no fault of my own, I would have broken my promise.”
Mia Wallace for Vincent Vega
When Vincent has something to tell Mia, he tells her to promise not to be offended. However, she explains that she cannot make such a promise. She says: “You can’t promise something like that. I have no idea what you’re going to ask me. So you can go ahead and ask me what you’re going to ask me, and my natural response might be to be offended. Then, through no fault of my own, I would have broken my promise.”
Mia and Vincent’s conversation over dinner is usually fascinating, but this quote from Mia Wallace is one of the most thought-provoking parts of the entire evening. Of course, the whole issue was about the foot massage he and Jules had talked about, which allegedly caused a man to be thrown out of a window by Marsellus Wallace. Despite the subject Vincent wanted to raise, Mia’s answer was perfect because she honestly explained that what he was asking was impossible.

“That’s when you know you’ve found someone really special; You can just shut up for a minute and share the silence comfortably.
Mia Wallace for Vincent Vega
There is a lot of sexual tension between Vincent Vega and Mia Wallace in pulp Fiction. In a smaller film, they would fall in love over the course of the night and kiss when Vincent drops Mia home at the end of the pseudo-date. Instead of being together, however, their connection is left unspoken, but this Mia Wallace quote is still romantically charged and highly memorable. They know they have something very special, but they also know they will never be able to act on it.
This could also have been a test for Vincent Vega. He knows he has to do whatever Mia wants for the night, but he also knows there’s a line he can’t cross, or it could mean his life. Mia could be playing with Vincent here, or she could be honest with him, which she does almost all night, no matter what she says. Mostly, she lets Vincent know that she thinks he’s someone special, but they both know it can’t go beyond just words, and they leave it at that.

“Don’t be a… *draws a square*”
Mia Wallace for Vincent Vega
Some fans have pointed out that Mia Wallace actually draws a rectangle in the air and not a square, despite her telling Vincent not to be a square, but that only adds to the peculiarity of the moment. It’s strange for a Tarantino film to add something over the frame, like an animated square appearing at Uma Thurman’s fingertips, but it fits, leading to one of Mia Wallace’s best – albeit shortest – quotes.
pulp Fiction is an exercise in postmodernism, and then when something comes along to remind the audience that this is just a movie, it works. Tarantino has always drawn on his love of previous films for their directorial masterpieces, and seeing something like Mia drawing the square while talking influences the films he pays homage to here. There were squares drawn on everything, from the The Parent Trap to The Flintstones to Three little bops, and much more.

“Three tomatoes are walking down the street…”
Mia Wallace for Vincent Vega
Thanks to pulp Fictionmany viewers are familiar with the TV production process. Mia Wallace explains that she once appeared in a TV pilot called Fox Force Five (A pilot is the first episode of a show used to determine whether it is worth turning into a series). Your character should tell a corny joke in each episodebut they only did one episode, so she only told one joke, leading to an excellent quote from Mia Wallace:
“Three tomatoes are walking down the street: a daddy tomato, a mommy tomato and a baby tomato. The baby tomato starts to lag behind. Daddy Tomato gets mad, goes up to Baby Tomato and crushes him… and says, ‘Reach out.’”
What made this joke even better was Vincent Vega’s little chuckle and Mia’s admission that it wasn’t that funny. However, the whole moment, after all the trauma surrounding Mia’s near-death experience, made this bad joke a perfect moment in her story.

“Trying to forget something as intriguing as this would be an exercise in futility.”
Mia Wallace for Vincent Vega
When Vincent Vega tells Mia Wallace that he has something to tell her, she wants to know what it is, but then he changes his mind about telling her and instructs her to forget it. However, as she tells him, Once he presents the notion that he has something tempting to tell her, it’s impossible for her to just forget about it. She won’t be able to forget it until she is told what it is.
It’s easy to identify with this Mia Wallace quote, and the way Tarantino makes these larger-than-life characters seem normal is a big part of that. pulp Fictioneternal charm. This happened when Vincent wanted to ask Mia about the foot massage moment he and Jules had talked about. The whole rumor was that Marsellus Wallace threw a man out of a window for massaging Mia’s feet, and now Vincent wants to know if that’s true. He’s embarrassed, but Mia hasn’t let him off the hook since he started the question.

“I have to powder my nose.”
Mia Wallace for Vincent Vega
pulp Fiction It was controversial for many things, such as its violence and its language, but one of the most controversial elements was its use of drugs. Drug use is never glamorized in the film, however, and is shown to be very dangerous, as seen in Mia’s overdose scene. There’s a sinister undercurrent running through everything pulp FictionLos Angeles representation.
Just like the new waiters dressed as tragically dead stars who serve Vincent and Mia food at dinner, There is a darkness to Hollywood glamor that remains silent. Mia’s euphemism for doing cocaine in the bathroom is appropriately old-fashioned and, as a result, over-the-top. Of course, that quote was full of dark tones and innuendo, and the “powder” Mia planned to use was going up her nose, not him. It was a beautiful double entendre, and everyone knew what she was referring to.

“Don’t you love it when you come back from the bathroom and find food waiting for you?”
Mia Wallace for Vincent Vega
This is another really relatable quote from Mia Wallace. The magic of returning to a restaurant table to receive a freshly delivered plate of food is one of those universally relatable everyday occurrences, but it’s so mundane that it’s rarely mentioned in movies and TV shows. Tarantino’s films have always been famous for their dialogue, but lines like this in pulp Fiction are so perfect in such a simple way that they almost seem poetic without seeming to try.
Mia Wallace has one thing going for her that Vincent Vega doesn’t. She’s easy with one-liners and seems comfortable talking, probably thanks to all the people Marsellus has come to make sure she stays entertained. While Vincent is mostly fidgety, not knowing what to say, Mia has little lines like this to start a conversation, and it’s something that really drives the entire restaurant scene between the two characters forward, keeping it memorable.

“Something.”
Mia Wallace for Lance
One of the most exciting and breathtaking sequences pulp Fiction is the one where Mia Wallace snorts some of Vincent’s heroin, mistaking it for cocaine, and starts to overdose. Vincent panics because it’s his boss’s wife and if she dies, he dies. So he puts her in his car and rushes her to the house of his drug dealer, Lance (Eric Stoltz), to give her an adrenaline shot. This leads to the intense scene of sticking the adrenaline needle in your chest and wishing for the best.
When she wakes up from the adrenaline shot, Lance says, “If you’re okay, say something,” and Mia jokingly says, “Something.” There are longer, more eloquent Mia Wallace quotes, but none as funny. It’s also a perfect time for Tarantino to add here. With such an intense and disturbing scene, things reach a crescendo, and then the little one-line joke Mia tells after almost dying is all that’s needed to allow the characters and the audience to come down from that level.

“Uncomfortable silences. Why do we think it’s necessary to talk about bulls*** to feel comfortable?”
Mia Wallace for Vincent Vega
As this quote from Mia Wallace points out, it often feels like all silences are uncomfortable when in the company of a vaguely familiar acquaintance, but they don’t have to be that way. As long as that acquaintance is someone like Mia Wallace, silences don’t have to be uncomfortablebecause they will point it out. Mia isn’t just a great character to see in a movie; she seems like a real person who anyone could start an interesting conversation with.
For someone who is as easy to talk to as Mia Wallace, she knows and acknowledges that Vincent Vega is not as comfortable talking to other people. This is a line that makes Vincent feel a little more comfortable and also continues to paint Mia in a light that shows that she may be the most honest person in the entire film. With so many criminals and murderers in pulp FictionMia is the only person who isn’t afraid to tell the truth, and she does it in the perfect situations.

“The only thing Antoine touched was my hand when he shook it at my wedding.”
Mia Wallace for Vincent Vega
The running story about why Marsellus threw Tony Rocky Horror out of a fourth-story window is interesting and not fully explained. Even Mia Wallace doesn’t have the full story. She just confirms that what Vincent heard about the foot massage, the rumor that made him afraid to take her out to dinner, is just a rumor. She even points out that he should have been able to realize this, as it seems irrational.
The fact that it’s never resolved, with Mia saying it’s between Marsellus and Tony Rocky Horror and just them, adds to the film’s mystique and makes for a very memorable Mia Wallace quote. It’s an interesting way to tie up the plot and relieve Mia of feeling guilty about her misfortune. It also shows that a lot of the gossip and rumors spread by people like Jules and Vincent were mostly false and unreliable. This quote was just a great way to end this fable.

“This doesn’t seem like the usual mindless, boring, get-to-know-you chat. Looks like you have something to say.”
Mia Wallace for Vincent Vega
Mia Wallace’s defining characteristic is that she refuses to fall into all of society’s traps. The banal chit-chat is just a symptom of social convention, and Mia realizes this and rejects it. This is a common theme in Tarantino’s films, starting with the first scene in his first film in which the Reservoir Dogs gangsters are having breakfast at a diner and Steve Buscemi’s Mr. Pink starts railing against automated tipping like he’s Larry David.
When Mia realizes something really needs to be said, she gets excited because it gives her a break from the mundanity of social norms and delivers another of her best quotes. Mia is not one to beat around the bush. She is honest and says what she thinks. She expects no less from the people she chooses to spend time with. That’s what makes it one of the best pulp Fiction characters.
Quentin Tarantino’s classic story of violence and redemption follows the intertwining stories of three protagonists: hitman Vincent Vega, boxer Butch Coolidge, and Vincent’s business partner Jules Winnfield.
