While aspects of the Batman mythos have changed over time, the facts have largely remained the same. But as for Scott Snyder’s biggest twist, Ultimate Batman destroys Bruce Wayne’s entire origin to create a new journey to an iconic figure. The Ultimate Universe’s goal is new storytelling as it spearheads a new DC storyline. All inclusive initiative.
Scott Snyder’s return to Washington is in collaboration with Ultimate Batman artist Nick Dragotta, which will officially launch on October 9, 2024. As audiences prepare to meet a very different Bruce Wayne than the one they’ve known all their lives, some explanation is required. Luckily, Scott Snyder offered just that (at Fan EXPO panels, interviews, and previews). This means that readers can now learn about the biggest changes that will happen in Ultimate Batman mythology and series.

The Ultimate Batman Bruce Was Inspired by the Younger Generation
Snyder looked to young people, including his children, to guide them Ultimate Batmanmotivation.
Scott Snyder said he was inspired by the young people he saw standing up and asking for a better world than the one they were handed. Although Bruce usually acted purely from a point of view of justice, Ultimate Batman will be presented Bruce Wayne, driven by a youthful belief that systems themselves can be changed. This is what sets him apart from other iterations of Batman.
While other versions of Batman put up with Gotham’s corruption to keep the streets clean, Ultimate BatmanBruce Wayne will be different. Instead, he will be a young Batman stepping into the role with the motivation to change what he and the rest of Gotham believe is wrong. Snyder described Bruce as an “idealistic, short-tempered child” who refuses to accept that Gotham is unchanging. A nice new look for a cult character.

Absolute Bruce will have the same moral rules
Despite his youth, Ultimate BatmanBruce Wayne already knows his moral principles.
Although Batman’s tactics have changed over time, one thing remains the same in the Ultimate Universe as in the main one: Bruce doesn’t kill or use guns. What sets Batman apart from the other big figures who control Gotham’s night are the strict rules he follows, which Batman carries with him everywhere he goes. Snyder showed that Ultimate BatmanBruce will still follow the same famous moral code.
In the main DC Universe, Batman’s rules became the cornerstone of his identity when former Robin, Jason Todd, began cleaning up the streets, ignoring both rules, causing family discord that extended to this day. Ultimate BatmanBruce may not have any help yet, but his rules apply. No matter what universe he is in, Batman will always stand up for justice.

The Ultimate Batman grew up in a crime alley, not a mansion
Ultimate BatmanBruce did not grow up in the safety of Wayne Manor.
One of the biggest changes in Ultimate BatmanBruce is a product of his upbringing, as Snyder tells it. Ultimate BatmanBruce grew up on the complete opposite side of Gotham: Crime Alley. Batman fans know this. Crime Alley was the infamous place where main universe Bruce lost his parents..
If growing up wealthy and separated from the rest of Gotham gave DC’s iconic Bruce Wayne a certain perspective and set of skills, then growing up in Crime Alley is sure to bring changes to his core. More than a shocking redesign, it’s clear that this Batman is shaped differently from the start.

Absolute Bruce Wayne is an engineer, first and foremost.
Instead of being a detective, Ultimate Batman Bruce will be an engineer.
Bruce is a detective at heart. But in Ultimate Batman, Bruce Wayne’s thinking will be based on engineering. As opposed to detective work on cases the police can’t handle, Bruce will be more focused on the changes he creates first-hand and the systems he grows from the ground up.
Snyder teased that a recurring idea in Ultimate Batman is that Bruce “built” Batman, making him less of a personality that Bruce uses to do what a billionaire playboy can’t, but rather a project that Bruce undertook to bring about change in Gotham City.

The Ultimate Batman Would Hate Frank Miller’s Dark Knight
While other Batmen are pessimistic, Ultimate BatmanBruce will be full of idealism.
On topic Ultimate BatmanContrary to idealism, Snyder called his new Bruce Wayne the opposite of Frank Miller’s Batman, who became famous in old, pessimistic times. The dark knight returns. Going so far as to say Ultimate BatmanBruce would hate Frank Miller’s Batman from his point of view, there is no clearer illustration of the optimism that Ultimate BatmanBruce Wayne will carry within himself.
Bruce Wayne is often described as having a tormented, desperate view of Gotham’s future. Instead, in the Ultimate Universe, Bruce will step forward to represent the inoculation of hope his city needs.

The Ultimate Batman grew up (and still hangs out) with Gotham’s villains
Growing up in Crime Alley, Bruce was surrounded by an area full of crooks.
By placing Bruce in Crime Alley, Snyder was able to surround Bruce with things he didn’t have before: childhood friends, neighbors, and a past that would haunt him in his future as Batman. During his discussion it became clear that Not only did Bruce grow up alongside many of Gotham’s future infamous villains, including Harvey Dent and Waylon Jones, but he still keeps in touch with them.which will no doubt be a factor in the emotional arc that Snyder has planned if Bruce comes face to face with his former childhood friends.
Snyder shared this part. Ultimate Batman would touch on that part of life that watches people you knew go in completely different directions. Although Bruce Wayne from the main universe often encounters people with whom he has history, Ultimate Batman upgrades this element to the next level.
4
The Ultimate Batman learned from villains, not mentors and masters
Bruce not only held many positions, but also learned from his future opponents.
Because Bruce grew up in Crime Alley, he never had the opportunity to travel the world learning the finely honed skills of ancient teachings. Instead, all the skills readers see on the page come from the people around him in Crime Alley. Snyder said that Bruce was able to work and learn skills from all over Gotham with the help of the villains he grew up with. At the same time, Bruce gained access to a completely different part of Gotham, which his counterpart from the main universe does not have.
While the way Ultimate BatmanWhat Bruce did is still a mystery, Snyder revealed that Bruce learned to fight Killer Croc, he studied politics with Harvey Dent at City Hall, and learned the inner workings of the criminal underground with the Penguin. How Bruce will apply these skills is still unknown, but it is already clear that Ultimate BatmanBruce Wayne will be working with an entirely new set of skills never seen in the Batman mythos.

Alfred discovers that the Ultimate Batman is actually Bruce Wayne
Cover by Nick Dragotta AUltimate Batman #2 teases a confrontation between Alfred and Bruce.
It’s amazing Ultimate BatmanBruce Wayne won’t grow up with Alfred Pennyworth; instead of, Alfred Pennyworth would appear much later in Bruce’s life as an MI6 agent. sent to investigate a crime in Gotham. While their bond won’t be the kind of father-son relationship readers are used to, Snyder noted that Alfred will still have a role to play in Bruce’s story: mostly as an outsider who sees Bruce for who he really is.
Alfred will serve as a foil to Bruce’s point of view. As Snyder hinted, the two will debate when it comes to whether Bruce can actually change something as old and entrenched as Gotham’s power structure. Snyder was careful not to give up more, but hopefully Bruce will gain Alfred as an ally, given how his idealism pits him against the worst of Gotham.

The Ultimate Batman works as a city engineer by day.
Being a billionaire doesn’t hurt Ultimate BatmanThis is Bruce Wayne.
What struck me most when the first covers of Ultimate Batman were released to fit Bruce’s figure, a powerful body to match the thick insignia he wears on his chest. Snyder gave an explanation for Bruce’s bulky figure in his panel, explaining that Bruce works as a city engineer on a construction site.which allows it to be unnoticeably heavy. It also gives him working access to large parts of the city.
Snyder explained that because Ultimate BatmanBruce doesn’t have to play the role of a billionaire, he is allowed to become a much bigger personality and use that to his advantage as Batman. Working in the city is not the same as being the CEO of Wayne Industries, but being a city engineer in construction is an even bigger difference. Ultimate BatmanBruce Wayne will have many advantages that other Bruce Waynes do not have.

The Ultimate Batman has finally become a man of the people
Ultimate BatmanBruce Wayne knows Gotham from all sides.
While this has never stopped Batman from saving people in danger, there’s no point in denying that all the changes Snyder and Dragotta have made mean evil. this Batman may be the hero Gotham City has long deserved: a true man of the people. From working in construction to growing up surrounded by Gotham’s future villains and living in the heart of the city. Ultimate Batman gave Bruce everything that his main earthly counterpart lacks. He is no longer separated from the people of Gotham on any level.
Snyder hinted at a possible invasion of Gotham that Bruce won’t back down from. Looking at everything Snyder teased to find out what happens next. Ultimate Batmanthis is truly his biggest creative turn to date. Ultimate Batman will lead the attack in the new DC series All inclusive an initiative that opens readers to the Ultimate Universe, and promises a completely different experience, set in the familiar yet unfamiliar Gotham City. How Ultimate BatmanThe story of Bruce Wayne is sure to come as a shock.
