While sitcoms are often judged by their humor, they can also deliver some devastating emotional moments, especially when on-screen couples break up. Many sitcoms focus on romance as a way to provide gentle, relatable drama and as a form of humor. However, sitcoms that balance humor and heart can end up creating some surprisingly touching moments as their love stories take twists and turns.
While some sitcom couples are bad ideas from the start, there are others that make the audience root for them. If a couple has great on-screen chemistry and complements each other well, it can be painful to watch their relationship fall apart. Some of sitcoms’ most memorable moments include dramatic breakups, so fans can remember these heartbreaks for years to come.

Most of the romantic drama in Friends focuses on the relationship between Ross and Rachel, although Monica and Chandler’s relationship also takes up a lot of time. Phoebe is often left out, which makes the few relationships she has even more special. Before the show pairs her with Mike to give him a happy ending, the most meaningful relationship she has is with David.
Phoebe’s breakup with David showed that her character was underused in the series’ drama.
David meets Phoebe for the first time when he speaks during his performance at the cafe. His adorable and strange style makes him a good match for her, as he doesn’t like to play around and is a caring, romantic partner. Unfortunately, David had to move to Minsk to work as a scientist, and the distance was too much for the couple. Phoebe’s best moments in Friends are mostly bizarre interjections, but her breakup with David showed that her character was underused in the series’ drama.

In the 2nd season of BoJack Knight, BoJack begins a relationship with Wanda. As Wanda has recently woken up from a decades-long coma, she still has the mind of a much younger woman and also has no cultural frame of reference for anything later than the 1980s. Both of these things draw BoJack to her, as she does not knows about the show that made him famous in the 1990s.
Wanda is a middle-aged woman with the mind of a 20-year-old, but even she can mature and change her ways faster than BoJack.

Wanda is a middle-aged woman with the mind of a 20-year-old, but even she can mature and change her ways faster than BoJack. He remains stuck in the past in his own peculiar way. By allowing his relationship with Wanda to fall apart, he reinforced the fact that he was rejecting the possibility of growth and self-reflection that went beyond simplistic self-loathing.

2nd season of Flea bag it has everything to do with the protagonist’s flirtatious relationship with the man she calls “the Hot Priest”. There is a lot of religious symbolism in the fact that she is turning to the priest as a means of finally absolving her soul and forgiving herself for the death of her best friend. She finds a lot of meaning in her relationship with him, but knows he is unlikely to turn his back on religion.
Fleabag finds a lot of meaning in her relationship with him, but she knows he’s unlikely to turn his back on his religion.
The series finale Flea bag ends with the unsurprising but no less devastating development that the Priest reaffirms his commitment to the church rather than pursuing a relationship with Fleabag. It’s a bittersweet endingas it is accompanied by the positive that Fleabag has finally allowed herself to live in the present moment without creating layers of separation from the truth. Still, it’s sad to see two people who fit together so well choosing to part ways.

how I Met Your Mother has a unique premise that makes it clear that all of Ted’s relationships in the series are doomed to fail in some way. Mostly, each relationship provides a few laughs and teaches Ted something as the story slowly builds up to the moment he meets Tracy. Elizabeth represents an opportunity for him to reconnect with the carefree side of his youth, and he has a lot of fun hanging out with her. Still, he can’t let go of his feelings for Cece.
It would have been nice to see him work things out with Elizabeth, as she allows him to have fun and let go of his insecurities.

This leads to one of New girlbest episodes, as he accidentally invites them both to his workplace party. Dwight and Angela
The office
Dwight and Angela perfectly match each other’s energy, making them one of the weirdest sitcom couples of all time. Neither of them seem to have much basis in reality, but that only makes their quirky love story all the more endearing, since they’re the only people who understand each other. The officeThe series finale focuses on their marriage, but the couple had a long and winding road to get there. Their breakup in Season 4 is still strangely tragic.
Although Dwight and Angela often seem too bizarre to be relatable, their separation in “Dunder Mifflin Infinity” is surprisingly emotional.

“A Dark Quiet Death” is one of the best episodes of Mythic Questeven though it has almost nothing to do with the rest of the show. This standalone episode would be a great introduction to Mythic Quest newcomers as it showcases the show’s brilliant mix of humor and incisive writing. Jake Johnson and Cristin Milioti play a couple who go into business together as game designers, but grow further apart as their dream is distorted by corporate influences.
The episode’s title comes from the name of the video game, but it also describes their relationship.
“A Dark Quiet Death” is a sensational love story in miniature. Beans wants to preserve the purity of his artistic vision, while Doc is open to some changes if it will make him more money. This reflects his spirit of love and life, with Beans being an ideologue and Doc being the more pragmatic of the two. Their relationship doesn’t explode all at once. Instead, it undergoes a series of almost imperceptible changes until it becomes unrecognizable. The episode’s title comes from the name of the video game, but it also describes their relationship.
