Although originally conceived as a limited series Obi Wan Kenobi now has the potential to expand into Season 2, and there are many reasons why this would be a good idea for Star Wars to chase. While Obi Wan Kenobi was not a huge critical success at the time of its release, the show was still a hit with audiences who had waited nearly twenty years to see Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen return to the Star Wars. That’s all it ever did Obi Wan Kenobi a special Star Wars TV program. Unfortunately, it was never supposed to go beyond a single season.
Now, two years after its release, McGregor has reignited talks about a potential Obi Wan Kenobi Season 2, sharing that they are “exploring“ideas for a new edition. This news was met with a wave of enthusiasm from Star Wars enthusiasts who would love to see McGregor return as Obi-Wan Kenobi once again and flesh out the beloved character’s story even more. Beyond simply fulfilling fans’ desire to see more of Obi-Wan, here are 10 reasons why Star Wars should seriously consider pursuing Obi Wan Kenobi 2nd season.

Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon’s reunion just happened
This duo should get together for longer
Node Obi Wan Kenobi Ending season 1, Obi-Wan is finally greeted by the Force ghost of Qui-Gon Jinn, with the role being reprized by Liam Neeson himself. This moment is extremely notable beyond the obvious; Obi-Wan had been trying to connect with Qui-Gon through the Force for years up until this point.. Because of Obi-Wan’s own withdrawal from the Force, he was unable to do so, but Qui-Gon appeared just as Obi-Wan was finally ready to let the Force flow through him again.
While it was obvious that it was exciting to see McGregor and Neeson reunited in these roles after, at the time, 23 years, there are still very practical reasons why this duo should be explored more in Obi Wan Kenobi 2nd season. It is Qui-Gon who teaches Obi-Wan how to become a Force ghost when he diesand this would be a fascinating process to explore in live action. It could also allow Qui-Gon to convey the appropriate amount of peaceful encouragement that Obi-Wan needs to complete his transformation into the relaxed Jedi Master that audiences see in A New Hope.

Commander Cody’s fate has not yet been revealed
Obi-Wan’s right-hand man was originally supposed to appear in the first season
One of the biggest disappointments Obi Wan Kenobi the first season is that Commander Cody, Obi-Wan’s right-hand man during the Clone Wars, did not appear. This only became a greater disappointment after learning that the clone commander was supposed to appear in early drafts of Obi Wan Kenobialthough its plot was ultimately abandoned. Now, however, Star Wars has a chance to make things right, and there are several in-universe reasons why this should happen – and also a very important real-life reason.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2, released almost a year later Obi Wan Kenobirevealed that Cody eventually disappeared from the Empire, which means he could certainly still appear in this story. Since nothing more about the clone’s fate has been revealed since then, not even in The bad lot season 3, Obi Wan Kenobi season two would be the perfect way to tell this beloved character’s story. Temuera Morrison also deserves the chance to play Cody againespecially considering how he was let down by Star Wars following The Book of Boba Fett.

The first season didn’t do much with Luke Skywalker
There are many more storytelling opportunities for him
One of the biggest twists Obi Wan Kenobi The first season is about the two Skywalker twins, Leia was the one who had the most screen time. As Obi-Wan was known to be exiled to Tatooine at the time of the series, most viewers expected Luke to receive a lot of attention in the story, especially with the two needing to meet before the events of A New Hope. The story, however, brought Obi-Wan and Leia togetherhelping to build a relationship strong enough for Leia to name her son after him.
While it was a fascinating twist, it still remains that young Luke didn’t get a major role in Obi Wan Kenobiand his story is certainly worth following at this time. Obi-Wan had the chance to meet Luke at the end of Obi Wan Kenobi 1st season, but it’s clear that at the time of A New HopeLuke knew him beyond mere introductions. Obi Wan Kenobi Season 2 could develop this relationship between them, allowing viewers another look at Luke’s childhood on Tatooine.

Obi-Wan has just regained his abilities
Audiences deserve to see more of him at his full potential
It’s a vital part Obi Wan KenobiThe story that Obi-Wan withdrew from the Force and, as a result, lost much of his power and potential. This is what makes it difficult for him to hold Leia with the Force; During the Clone Wars era, at its height, Obi-Wan would have had little to no problem with such a task. At the end of Obi Wan Kenobihowever, Obi-Wan has once again welcomed the Force and is able to use it heavily against Darth Vader during their rematch.
This means audiences only got a brief glimpse of Obi-Wan using the Force once again, or at least close to it. It served the story well in Season 1, but season two could allow viewers to once again see Obi-Wan struggle and interact with the Force like he used to do. Whatever fights await Obi-Wan in a potential second season would give him the opportunity to showcase those skills once again, and for audiences to see how they’ve really developed since the Clone Wars era.

Ewan McGregor is looking forward to returning to Star Wars again
This eagerness must not be wasted
One of the most wonderful results Obi Wan Kenobi is that the prequel’s beloved actors like McGregor and Christensen got a whole new experience with Star Wars This was much more positive than the initial reception to Star Wars prequels. This dark period made it seem likely that these actors would never want to touch the franchise again, but thankfully, that wasn’t the case. McGregor especially expressed great interest in returning to the Star Wars again in any role, but especially in a potential Obi Wan Kenobi 2nd season.
The more passion actors like McGregor have for projects like these, the better those projects end up becoming, as exemplified by Cassian Andor’s Diego Luna in Andor.
This enthusiasm that McGregor has for a return should not be wasted. The more passion actors like McGregor have for projects like these, the better those projects end up becoming, as exemplified by Cassian Andor’s Diego Luna in Andor. It is very possible that the enthusiasm McGregor feels for Obi Wan season 2 could be channeled into something that grows and becomes even bigger and better than season 1creating a portrayal that could rival the performances he gave in the prequel trilogy itself.

The Dark Times is still one of the richest periods of Star Wars storytelling
It can fill some necessary gaps in the schedule
The years between Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and A New Hopealso known as the years between the fall of the Galactic Republic and the rise of the Galactic Empire, are referred to as the Dark Times in Star Wars timeline. This time period has been largely unexplored, with the exception of a few recent projects. Even so, many of these projects take place directly after the fall of the Republic (The bad lot) or just before the Battle of Yavin (Star Wars Rebels, Andorand Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).
It’s just Obi Wan Kenobi and Solo: A Star Wars Story which take place squarely in the middle of the Dark Times, shedding light on what those difficult years were like for the people of the galaxy. Continuing with season 2, Obi Wan Kenobi is even more likely to build on the Dark Times era, establishing what it was like to live in a galaxy with no Rebel Alliance and therefore no true hope of escaping the Empire’s tight grip.. The opportunity to further realize this period of time should not be ignored.

New Clone Wars battles could be shown in live action
The Clone Wars remains a fan-favorite period
Something McGregor has already expressed interest in is bringing more scenes from the Clone Wars era to life in a potential Obi Wan Kenobi Season 2, and this is an absolutely excellent idea to pursue. Since then Ahsoka brought iconic scenes from the Clone Wars to live action with its sequel World Between Worlds, audiences are begging to see more. To avoid repeating old stories, however, Obi Wan Kenobi season two could cover new stories from that era to add depth to the Clone Wars era.
Obi Wan Kenobi would certainly be able to show new battles from the Clone Wars, especially if it used flashbacks as Ahsoka he did. These moments could be crucial in Obi-Wan’s own storysince most of the animation Star Wars: The Clone Wars the series focuses on Anakin, Ahsoka, and Captain Rex, as opposed to Obi-Wan and his 212th Legion. Obi Wan Kenobi could enrich an already beloved period without remaking things that don’t need to be remade from its animated source material.

There’s still a lot left for Obi-Wan to discover
Ahsoka’s survival, clone inhibitor chips and more
Because Obi-Wan isolated himself on Tatooine so quickly, There’s little he actually knows about what’s going on in the galaxy. He has no idea that Ahsoka Tano survived Order 66, and it’s very likely that he also has no idea that the inhibitor chips were what caused the clones to turn against the Jedi – including Commander Cody. These are all things Obi-Wan could discover in Obi Wan Kenobi Season 2, which would help enrich his character in the original trilogy.
While this information probably doesn’t drastically change Obi-Wan’s character, as he never deviates from his mission to watch over Luke on Tatooine, it would still greatly reward fans to see Obi-Wan wrap up things that happened after Order 66. Obi-Wan and Ahsoka were close during the Clone Wars, as she was his former Padawan’s Padawan, and it’s clear they had a relationship worth revisiting if the story allows. Obi-Wan certainly also deserves to know that Cody had no choice in enacting Order 66.

Star Wars should use previous actors while they still can
Time is always a factor
Time passes and is certainly relentless. It is worth highlighting, then, that Star Wars should use the prequel trilogy actors while they still can, before the franchise has to rely on technology like digital de-aging to bring them back. This is something that is currently being seen with actors from the original trilogy in properties like The Mandalorianand didn’t have the best response. It is very clear that audiences prefer the actors themselves or recasts similar to digital recreations.
Given that McGregor is currently the perfect age to portray Obi-Wan during this period, then Star Wars They should take the opportunity to use it while they still can. This is especially true in light of McGregor’s own enthusiasm for pursuing this story. He might make time for it now, but there’s no telling what might happen later. With an overall positive outlook on the prequel era prevailing at the moment, it would be best to Star Wars to act now with actors who are already prepared to return to the franchise.

Obi-Wan is one of the best Star Wars characters
Season 2’s Story Could Make It Even Better
Realistically, the biggest reason why Star Wars should continue Obi Wan Kenobi the second season is because Obi-Wan is one of Star Wars best characters. Obi-Wan and his story have truly stood the test of time, with him still being a multi-generational hero thanks to the way his story was told between the original and prequel trilogies. It would be difficult to imagine a world where people stopped wanting Obi-Wan Kenobi stories, and that remains true even with this series. He undoubtedly deserves to have another chance to shine on screen.
It would be difficult to imagine a world where people stopped wanting Obi-Wan Kenobi stories.
Of course, there are already plenty of Obi-Wan stories to draw from, but Obi Wan Kenobi season 2 would have the opportunity to develop this character in a whole new way. By focusing on his story during exile, a whole new side of this character could be shown in a different way than his portrayal in the first season. He no longer feels overwhelmed by hopelessness; how exactly does he continue to move forward from this? This is a question that Obi Wan Kenobi season two could certainly answer, and I hope so.
