10 PS2 games that should be remastered on PS5

With recent releases of remasters and remakes of classic games on modern platforms like PlayStation 5remains a large catalog of PlayStation 2 games that also deserve to be remade and remastered. This catalog includes games that cannot be accessed through any official means, a lack of accessibility that causes great games and classics to be stuck on old consoles or systems that have skyrocketed in price due to rarity or are no longer sold. However, remasters tend to be a controversial subject, especially because sometimes remasters don't do well.

This can be said of many remasters of fan-favorite classics, such as Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogywhich performed poorly, and the Silent Hill HD Collectionwhich was poorly received due to an incomplete source code that was never properly archived. However, although some remasters performed poorly, there were others that were well received, such as Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse or Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age. Thanks to these successful remasters, there is some hope that there could be even more well-made remastersespecially for games that aren't as accessible these days.

Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy 7 (2006)

Published by Square Enix

Following Vincent Valentine, an optional member of the group in the original Final Fantasy 7, Cerberus' funeral song focuses on the consequences of events that follow the main game's storywhere Sepiroth tries to destroy the world. Genetically enhanced super soldiers from an organization called Deepground hunt Vincent to capture the Protomateria, which helps control the Chaos gene within him.

Unlike the turn-based combat known in the series Cerberus' funeral song was designed as a third-person shooter. Although a unique entry, it was not well received by the target audience and received mixed reviews. Despite being one of the weakest entries in the Final fantasy series, is still very relevant to the Remake trilogy developed by Square Enix. If Square Enix decides not to move forward with a remake of Cerberus' funeral songso fans of the series deserve a remaster that is affordable so that Final Fantasy 7 story could be understood in full.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2003)

Published by Ubisoft

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Timand follows an unnamed prince as his father's army is provoked into attacking the Maharaja's palace, where the Sands of Time are kept. While fighting in the palace, the Prince finds the Dagger of Time and is tricked into releasing the Sands of Time, which then turns everyone except the Prince, Farah, and the Maharaja's Vizier into monsters. The Prince tries to undo his mistake with Farah's help. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is considered a classic by many thanks to the fluid and satisfying gameplay.

As one of the best installments in the series, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is worthy of its own remaster considering the original is no longer accessible beyond the original PS2 copy and emulators. A remake of the game is in the works, but has suffered delays after his first filming was heavily criticized. Ultimately, a remaster might be the best option, but even having a digital download of the original game on modern consoles would be nice.

Fatal Frame (2001)

Published by Koei Tecmo (Tecmo)

It's 1986 and Miku Hinasaki enters an old Japanese mansion in search of his brotherMafuyu, who visited the old mansion in search of his guardian. As Miku explores the mansion, she discovers that it is haunted and that the tutor Mafuyu is looking for has already been killed by the ghosts. Using her supernatural ability, Miku is able to see and witness supernatural events, and using her camera, she is able to fight off more malicious ghosts.

Fatal Framealso known as Zero in Japan and Project Zero in Europe, it is a horror franchise with two recent remasters of Fatal Tablet: Maiden of Blackwater in 2021 and Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse in 2023. Even though they were released much later than the original, they still received remasters faster than the original three. If Koei Tecmo remasters any of the original trilogy, the original game should have been the first because it is relevant to Crimson Butterfly history and The Tormented story, although each serves as a standalone game.

As a sequel to the original US Navy SOCOM SEALs, the game was a well-received tactical shooter. Although it could be played offline with twelve missions, it also had online play, although the servers had long since closed in 2012. Still, this sequel had fun gameplay along with voice chat in its online game. Three ranks were already unlocked for first-time players, but to unlock the other ranks, players had to beat the game as a Commander to unlock the Captain and then as a Captain to unlock the Admiral.

Clock Tower 3 is the fourth and final installmentalthough he had spiritual successors such as Haunted Land and Night crying.

Following a hide-and-seek format, Alyssa was able to hide from the assassins after distracting them, although this aspect was not entirely successful in terms of gameplay. Although this game was considered a commercial failure, it was known and praised for its cinematics and script. But even though its gameplay was the worst part of the game, the killers and the heavy, dark atmosphere were the main highlights. With a remaster, an update to gameplay and controls could improve the experience and make it more tolerable.

The fifth installment of Tony Falcao series, followed later Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, Underground was a beloved and favorite entry thanks to its gameplay and story. While the story might seem a little dramatic or overwrought at times, it was loved for being humorous and overall just plain fun; not to mention, Underground has a more entertaining plot than any of the Professional skateboarderS. A remaster could make this game even more beloved, or at least accessible, and the successful remaster of Professional Skater 1 + 2 proves how well this can work.

Similar to Guitar Hero in terms of gameplay, Guitar Hero 2 simply improves the originalmaking it an exciting return to the franchise. It enhances the multiplayer aspect of the original with three multiplayer modes, and a more accessible difficulty curve along with a video timing calibration option could make it less frustrating. A remaster could bring the franchise back to life, or at least make it more accessible today.

Silent Hill 3 (2003)

Published by Konami

Heather Mason wakes up from a nightmare and, while trying to return to her father's house, is confronted by a private investigator who confronts her at her birth. Heather tries to escape this man, only to discover that the mall is occupied by monsters. This game takes place seventeen years after the events of the first game. Silent Hill 2 was not initially a success in Japan, as explained by SH2 and SH3 artist Masahiro Ito in an X post discussing the art direction behind Silent Hill 3so it's not a surprise that it went in a different direction.

A remaster of the original silent Hill The trilogy was published and developed for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, although there were technical and development problems. However, the Silent Hill 3 the PS3 remaster was better received. ONE PS5 remaster of this PlayStation 2 classic on its own could be worth it, especially since there's no guarantee that any other silent Hill the game will be remade by Team Bloober, although there are hopes that it will.
