While 2024 marked the PlayStation's celebrated 30th anniversary, 2025 is a showcase for the kind of experiences that those who picked up a PS1 in 1995 could never have dreamed of. There really is something for everyone releasing in 2025but those who love RPGs, great indie experiences, open-world titles, and horror games have a lot to look forward to.

Yotei's Ghost (Sucker Punch Productions)
One of the biggest PlayStation exclusives in 2025
Yotei's Ghost is the big PlayStation exclusive of 2025bringing players back to Sucker Punch Productions' romanticized and rather gruesome version of Feudal Japan. Set hundreds of years after the events of the first game, players will take on the role of a new protagonist, Atsu, as she takes on the titular mantle of Ghost as part of her new mission. There's a lot about the sequel that remains a mystery, but early trailers have shown that it will be just as beautiful. Tsushima.
One of the reasons for this is its setting, Hokkaido. Situated in northern Japan, this diverse region is the perfect place to play out a story of revenge and redemption. Stranding of Death was a divisive video game when it was released in 2021, but it has since become a cult classic. Fortunately for fans, its commercial success allowed Kojima to make its sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the beach. Featuring an even larger cast of celebrities Stranding of Death 2 somehow managed to look even more bizarre than its predecessorwhich is saying something.
A big part of that is the extremely bizarre photo mode that took the Internet by storm when it was first announced, thanks to how revolutionary and a little underwhelming it is. However, PlayStation fans who love a fully cinematic video game experience directed by one of the industry's greatest auteurs should be absolutely thrilled with this bigger, bolder sequel.

Outer Worlds 2 (Obsidian Entertainment)
An Xbox production coming to PlayStation
The Outer Worlds 2 was initially announced as an Xbox exclusive. However, fortunately for PlayStation fans, During The Game Awards 2024, it was revealed that it would be released on PS5 also in 2025. Of course, this makes sense considering Xbox's newfound love for all platforms outside of its own, as well as the fact that the original game Outer Worlds it was a multiplatform release.
The Outer Worlds 2 it feels like a bigger, better sequel, with improved visuals and more distinct planets. It's really leaning into the colorful and diverse aspect of its universe, making it a great alternative for Star Field. Of course, also comes from Obsidian Entertainment, who have learned a lot since the release of the first Outer Worlds game. As such, PlayStation fans should be absolutely thrilled with this new sci-fi RPG.

Elden Ring Nightreign (software)
A surprise addition to the 2025 lineup
A game that absolutely no one expected to be announced at the 2024 Game Awards was a Elden Ring spin off. After reports that Elden Ring 2 isn't in development, fans have pretty much given up hope of getting anything remotely related. Happily, FromSoftware had a co-op adventure cooking in the background and proudly announced it with all the flair one would expect from the talented developer.
Elden Ring Night Kingdom is a fully standalone co-op experience where players attempt to defeat some of the toughest bosses FromSoftware has designed while exploring the vast open world. It's everything fans have come to love, just with a more developed co-op element. PlayStation fans should keep an eye out for this when it launches in 2025.

Ballad of Antara (Tipsworks Studio)
A new dark fantasy ARPG
Ballad of Antara is an epic new soul-like, open-world action RPG in which players take on the role of an Emissary as they navigate a cruel fantasy world. With several diverse regions to explore and a multitude of characters to meet, Ballad of Antara looks like it could be 2025's answer to Dragon's Dogma 2. It can also be played entirely in multiplayer mode, which is great for anyone looking for a co-op experience on PS5.
Notably, Ballad of Antara It's completely free to playalthough how this will affect the basic experience has not yet been disclosed by its developer. This isn't Tipsworks Studio's first game, as it previously released the well-received soulslike Pascal's Wager. You certainly have a lot of experience in this genre, so Ballad of Antara has solid foundations on which to build. Soulslike PS5 fans should definitely keep this on their wish list.

An Indie PlayStation to keep an eye on
The Midnight Walk is the latest game from the developers behind Randomly lost and Faith. It's a terrifying horror game in which players take on the role of The Burnt One as they try to navigate a Tim Burton-style handcrafted world made entirely of clay. With frightening monsters to face and a truly surreal landscape to explore, The Midnight Walk is certainly one of the most unique indies of 2025.
What makes it stand out from the rest is the gameplay loop in which players rely on their faithful friend Potboy to get through unscathed. Players can use Potboy's flame to distract enemies while they hideor use it to navigate dark spaces. It seems reminiscent of things like The Last Guardianthough its stop-motion claymation aesthetic certainly sets it apart.

A new DOOM game to explore
DOOM: The Dark Ages is yet another Xbox exclusive coming to PS5, although it was always planned as a multi-platform release. It's a prequel to the phenomenal 2016 first-person shooter RUINand sees the DOOM Slayer explore a medieval-style hellscape filled with new and familiar enemies. In truth, DOOM: The Dark Ages is a sort of origin story for DOOM Slayerwhich is perfect for those who are deeply immersed in the lore of the latest games.
DOOM: The Dark Ages has a multitude of new weapons for players to use against the new hordes of enemies, as well as some terrifying bosses to face. From its stunning open areas to its frantic combat in which Indy goes from weapon to weapon as he tries to take down the Nazis, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle does a phenomenal job of recreating the feel of the original films and offering longtime fans and newcomers alike something new. This is an Xbox-produced game that PlayStation fans definitely shouldn't miss.

An exciting new open-world RPG
Where the winds meet looks set to be a truly epic RPG, which will be worth checking out on PS5. It's set in a beautiful open world in ancient China, filled with thousands of points of interest for players to discover. It can be played entirely alone, but also has co-op and multiplayer modes, with the potential to play with thousands of other people. More PvP modes are also planned for the future, which is great for those who enjoy playing online.
Where the winds meet could be PlayStation's answer to Ubisoft's game design styleas it places great emphasis on exploring a vast open world filled with endless activities, while unlocking new skills and weapons through various RPG systems. If developer Everstone Studio can pull this off, PlayStation could have another epic open-world adventure on its hands.

The greatest monster hunter game of all time
Wild Monster Hunter will be the biggest Monster Hunter game already made, with Capcom investing everything it learned from previous games and its other properties into it. Featuring a vast open world in which players can hunt giant monsters, as well as AI companions to fight alongside those who prefer to play offline, there's a lot to look forward to in Wilds. The continuous open world with its diverse and dynamic biomes is definitely the highlight of Wildand why so many people are already excited to play it.
Of course, if Wild It's something similar to the previous one Monster Hunter games, so fans can look forward to hundreds of hours in it.
