Cox also played Daredevil in She-Hulk: Lawyer and Echo.
After appearing in two Disney+ Marvel series, the actor is making his own. Cox leads Daredevil: Born Againcast, which features the return of several Netflix actors Reckless series. While the return of the characters from the popular show is great, Daredevil: Born AgainMay’s story may be helped by some important lessons learned from Netflix Reckless and the rest of the series in The Defenders Saga. Here are 10 lessons from Netflix Marvel to Daredevil: Born Again:

Secret identities are a vital part of the Daredevil drama
A villain already knows Matt Murdock’s secret
The MCU has a problem when it comes to superheroes’ secret identities. Several heroes in the franchise do not have secret identities or have chosen to reveal them and much more. As such, Daredevil is one of the few MCU heroes who still has a double life. This is a fundamental aspect of the character in the comics and in Cox’s Netflix series, which makes him crucial to Daredevil: Born Again.
Matt Murdock has closed some for protection, so it’s necessary to keep his Daredevil and Matt personas separate. Daredevil: Born Again can revel in the drama that comes from Matt having secrets from people he loves or has some kind of connection with. In Reckless season 3, Wilson Fisk discovered that Matt Murdock was Daredevil. The first Daredevil: Born Again teaser confirmed that it is part of the MCU series, making Daredevil’s secret identity important.

Daredevil’s “no killing” rule makes him a very different hero
Daredevil doesn’t stoop to the level of his villains
While there are some Marvel heroes who have no problem killing, like the Punisher, Daredevil is not among them. Just like Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil has a strict “no killing” rule. The character came close to breaking it. Node Reckless season 3 finale, Matt Murdock defeated Kingpin in a hand-to-hand fight and left the villain in a bloody mess. However, Matt stopped himself from killing Wilson Fisk.
This showed that Daredevil is really about justice, not revenge. This is a fundamental lesson for Daredevil: Born Againsince having the Devil from Hell’s Kitchen start killing villains wouldn’t fit with what came before. This isn’t to say that Matt Murdock shouldn’t be violent when he’s fighting criminals, but that Daredevil knows better than to stoop to their level, standing up for justice as both Matt and Daredevil.

The Punisher cannot be tamed
Jon Bernthal returns to Marvel in Daredevil: Born Again
Daredevil has a strict “no killing” rule, but that couldn’t be further from Frank Castle’s MO. The Punisher is an anti-hero, not a full-fledged hero like Daredevil. What this means is that both characters follow a different set of rules, even if they both want to take down villains like Kingpin. Netflix Reckless showed how the two characters were fundamentally differentand the Punisher’s violent nature is what makes him stand out as a character.
With the Punisher returning Daredevil: Born AgainMarvel Studios needs to let the character be as violent as he needs to be.
Frank Castle’s tragic past and violent present go hand in hand. After debuting in RecklessJon Bernthal led two seasons of Netflix The Punisherdelving deeper into what motivates Frank. With the Punisher returning Daredevil: Born AgainMarvel Studios needs to let the character be as violent as he needs to be, with Frank Castle’s darkness is a big part of the character. Daredevil can balance it out, leading to a compelling dynamic.

Every Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk reunion has to be special
The characters won’t meet often in the MCU’s Daredevil series
For the most part, Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk have influenced each other’s lives without having to deal directly with each other. While the characters were mostly separated on Netflix Recklessthe Marvel series has made every encounter a memorable affair. With Kingpin once again playing a major role in a Daredevil project, the next Daredevil: Born Again this positive trend needs to continue.
Daredevil: Born Again you really need to get this aspect right, because Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk won’t interact much in Season 1. Talking to ColliderCharlie Cox explained why Daredevil and Kingpin won’t be sharing the screen much in Daredevil: Born Againsaying, “If they crossed paths, they would fight to the death.” With the two having limited screen time together on the new show, Netflix Reckless the idea that every meeting between Daredevil and the Kingpin needs to be repeated for Daredevil: Born Again.
6
Foggy and Karen are vital to Matt Murdock
The characters are back in the MCU
Netflix Reckless could have focused on Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock, but he wouldn’t have been the same without two characters. Matt’s relationships with Foggy Nelson and Karen Page, his best friends and business partners, informed many of the events of Cox’s first Marvel series. It was for this reason that Foggy and Karen initially absent Daredevil: Born Again was met with enormous criticism.
Fortunately, after Daredevil: Born AgainAfter the creative review Foggy and Karen will be back for the new MCU series. So far, it has not yet been confirmed how many episodes they will appear in. However, whether it’s the entire season, a few episodes, or just a single episode, Foggy and Karen need to heavily impact Matt Murdock’s story. The friendship between the trio creates an exciting dynamic, and Matt’s Daredevil life putting them in danger can also be explored in Daredevil: Born Again.

Hallway fight scenes are mandatory
Charlie Cox’s Daredevil is known for its thrilling action scenes
Netflix Reckless and the rest of The Defenders saga series became known for their dark themes and violent action. Both need to be present in Daredevil: Born Again so that the new MCU series is able to reach the standard set by Charlie Cox’s first Daredevil series. The action of the Netflix Marvel shows was hard-hittingespecially when it came to Cox’s Daredevil.
Netflix Reckless series had many exciting action scenes. However, each season’s hallway fight sequence has always been the moment fans have been waiting for. The first season shocked the world with one of the best action sequences in superhero adaptations, and subsequent seasons upped the ante. Marvel Studios has already referenced the fan-favorite Daredevil film in its She-Hulk: Lawyer appearance, then Disney+ Daredevil: Born Again should make for another exciting hallway fight.
4
Matt’s faith is an important part of the character
Matt Murdock is Catholic
The Defenders Saga presented a fundamental part of Matt Murdock’s characterization in the comics. The Marvel hero is known for being Catholic, and Charlie Cox’s version of Matt saw the character’s faith play a recurring role in the Netflix series. Reckless. It was interesting to see how Matt’s religion caused the character to be in constant conflict with himself. He wants to be good, but Matt has a darkness to him.
This led to many enlightening conversations between Charlie Cox’s tortured vigilante and Father Paul Lantom in the Netflix film. Reckless. One of the best scenes in the series revolves around Matt asking for forgiveness for the sins he’s about to commit as Daredevil, and the whole show made Matt’s Catholic guilt weigh on him as he tries to find a balance between getting justice as Daredevil and acting on his beliefs. Daredevil: Born Again would benefit from this moral dilemma.
3
Bullseye is a merciless killer
The villain Daredevil makes his Marvel Studios debut
Wilson Bethel’s Benjamin Poindexter, aka Bullseye, is one of Marvel’s best live-action villains. The character was a psychotic force to be stopped Reckless season 3. Poindexter was last seen undergoing surgery that appeared to end with him becoming Marvel Comics’ Bullseye. Now, the character is confirmed to return to Daredevil: Born Againwith Bullseye even getting a new villain costume instead of pretending to be Daredevil.
Reckless season three cemented that the character is a brutal killer who will take down anyone who stands in his way. Bullseye murdered many characters, including FBI agent Ray Nadeem. Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 will feature Bullseye in 3 of its 9 episodes. When the character is on screen, Bullseye needs to be as violent, disturbed, and psychopathic a character as he was on Netflix. Recklessas this made him the hero’s greatest physical threat.
2
Courtroom scenes are just as effective as action sequences
Matt Murdock is as important as Daredevil
This is an aspect that Daredevil: Born Again need to take extra care. The reason for this is that Marvel Studios has already disappointed audiences when it comes to a superhero who is also a lawyer. Although Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters was charming, She-Hulk: Lawyerthe courtroom scenes were mostly forgettable and devoid of any real emotion, something that goes against Netflix Reckless.
Charlie Cox’s first Daredevil series is the template for a vigilante/lawyer-focused project. The show managed to be just as exciting when Matt was questioning witnesses on the stand as it was when Daredevil was fighting villains. With impactful courtroom scenes, Daredevil: Born Again can ensure that both sides of Matt Murdock’s life receive proper focus, developing the show’s story in two very different ways, each complementing the other.

Little CGI Could Still Lead to an Engaging Superhero Series
Netflix’s Daredevil had fantastic action
Finally, the discussion around CGI has been increasing when it comes to Marvel in recent years. Many projects in Phase 4 of the MCU suffered from VFX-related issues. In theory, Daredevil: Born Again I shouldn’t have to deal with this problem. Netflix Reckless it has some of the best live-action superhero action and managed to do so with minimal use of CGI. Now, within the scope of Marvel Studios, the latter must change.
In She-Hulk: LawyerCharlie Cox’s Daredevil was more acrobaticlike in the comics, with greater use of CGI than on Netflix Reckless. Images released from Daredevil: Born Again shows that the series will once again feature the character’s acrobatic moments. Daredevil: Born Again can do so, as long as it takes a page from the Netflix show and uses CGI sporadically, prioritizing the hard-hitting, realistic action that made the original show as beloved as it was. With a gripping story, dynamic characters, engaging dialogue, and impactful action, minimal CGI can work well.
Following Charlie Cox’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home and supporting role in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Daredevil: Born Again gives Matt Murdock his first gig set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Daredevil: Born Again, consisting of 18 episodes, serves as the spiritual successor to Netflix’s three-season Daredevil series and adapts its characters to the MCU’s main continuity while establishing a new beginning for the superhero lawyer.
