Great sci-fi films need great villains, and recent sci-fi films have introduced villains who seem destined to make history. Many of the best modern sci-fi films are celebrated for their villains, and compelling performances are vital to that. If a sci-fi movie is good, the villains can be just as compelling as the main characters, and they can be just as popular, too.
Villains have to push heroes in interesting ways, which is why many of the best villains of recent times are designed to counteract the qualities of other characters. This means that actors playing villains must match the motivations of their characters, as well as the other characters in the film. An intriguing dynamic between hero and villain can make both characters more memorable.
