Garfield
is one of the most timeless comics out there, with comics published in the '90s as relevant and hilarious today as they were back then – and that's by design. Jim Davis, the creator of Garfieldconsciously kept the comic away from certain topics, such as political or social commentary. He wanted Garfield joking about things that people always identify with, like eating, sleeping, and indulging their personal vices.
It was this “standing order” that made Garfield a timeless classic, and that's great news for fans who want to remember some of the older comic books. Readers will not be bombarded with timely references to the specific era in which a particular crop of strips was published; they'll just get comics with the lazy orange cat being his usual hilarious self. And, as with all Garfield comic book, this goes for the entire month that just turned 30 years old. Here are the 10 funniest Garfield comics published in November 1994!

Garfield admits that cooking means a lot to him (in the funniest way)
Garfield – November 7, 1994
Garfield walks up to Jon looking as excited as fans have ever seen him, shouting about how he's back from his “travel around the world“. Jon dryly points out that not only has Garfield returned from a trip around the world, the lazy cat hasn't even left the house. Garfield simply walked into the room Jon was in from the kitchen. However, Garfield has a clever response to Jon's fact-checking, as he says: “It's the world to me“.
If there's one thing Garfield loves more than anything, it's food, so the fact that cooking means a lot to him makes perfect sense.
Garfield found the funniest way to tell Jon that the kitchen means a lot to himand while his method of conveying this information was definitely strange, it certainly tracks. If there's one thing Garfield loves more than anything, it's food, so the fact that cooking means a lot to him makes perfect sense.

“Comedy” or “Drama”, Garfield loves to hit Jon in the face with a pie
Garfield – November 8, 1994
Garfield runs up to Jon with a pie in his hand, saying out loud that he loves “comedy”, with the clear implication that he will throw the pie in Jon's face. Before doing so, however, Jon tells Garfield that people who get pies in the face aren't funny – but that doesn't save him. Garfield throws the pie in Jon's face anyway, and since Jon had already told him that it isn't considered “comedy”, Garfield walks away saying, “I love drama“.
Garfield doesn't care if Jon considers a pie in the face “comedy” or “drama,” he just wants to throw a pie in his face. Jon can call it whatever he wants, but at the end of the day, he was getting a pie in the face, and Garfield would be there to have fun, regardless of the action's designated genre.

Garfield is not susceptible to Odie's infectious optimism
Garfield – November 9, 1994
Garfield is lying on the floor, clearly having an off day and wanting to be alone. However, that doesn't happen with Odie, who practically jumps to Garfield, radiating energy and optimism. As Odie is right in front of him, Garfield says, “It's impossible not to be happy when Odie is around. So I'm leaving“, and Garfield gets up and leaves.
Garfield recognizes that Odie's optimism is contagious, but because he was in no mood to 'catch' him, Garfield became immune to this optimism by removing himself from Odie's presence. And honestly, Odie is probably better off, because even if Garfield stayed, he's unlikely to feel better, and he definitely would have taken it out on Odie in the form of a mean (though certainly hilarious) prank.

Garfield doesn't even wait until his food is served before he starts eating
Garfield – November 10, 1994
At Garfield's dinner time, Jon opens a can of cat food with the intention of serving it to Garfield in a bowl. But when Jon goes to put the cat food in the bowl, all he finds is Garfield's open mouth, ready to swallow all the cat food in one giant bite, before he even touches the bowl.
Garfield doesn't even wait until his food is served before he tries to start eating it, which is quite indicative of his entire relationship with food. If there is food nearby – even if it isn't for him – Garfield will try to eat it, and he will do so as quickly as possible. In fact, Garfield doesn't need his food bowl, he's proven that it will only slow him down.

Garfield and Odie literally drive Jon crazy
Garfield – November 13, 1994
Jon is sitting at the dinner table, trying to enjoy his meal, when he is suddenly approached by his pets. Both Garfield and Odie are sitting on either side of Jon, begging for a piece of his dinner. When Jon doesn't give up, the two animals resort to trickery through teamwork.
Jon goes crazy, devouring the food as fast as he can and practically starts foaming at the mouth. He goes so crazy, in fact, that both Odie and Garfield are downright scared of him when it's all over. Although his method seemed crazy, at least Jon managed to finish dinner.

Garfield gets really weird when he's bored
Garfield – November 15, 1994
Garfield is sitting at home alone, doing nothing but thinking about how bored he is. At least, almost nothing, as Garfield lifts one of his legs to reveal that his foot is wearing an old birthday party hat. Garfield says dryly, “My foot is having fun“, although there doesn't seem to be an ounce of joy inside him when he says it, not even in his step. But whether it's working or not, Garfield is at least trying to cure his boredom. The only problem is, it's just weird.
What are readers looking at here? Garfield dressed his foot in a birthday party hat and gave it its own happy identity. What? It's decidedly weird, for sure, and proves that Garfield is apparently weird when he's bored.

Garfield and Jon enjoy some interesting Friday nights
Garfield – November 18, 1994
That Garfield The strip begins with the titular cat and Jon throwing something at an unseen target, with Garfield apparently enjoying himself on this Friday night (though he's careful not to show it).. It is then revealed that Jon and Garfield are playing a strange variation of darts, but instead of throwing darts at the target, they are throwing sardines – and Jon is very good at it.
They're playing together on a Friday night, and while Garfield tries to make it seem like he doesn't care, he's playing a strange game of darts along with Jon, and it's fair to say that this particular Friday night meant more to him than he let on.
This comic is actually really cute as it's a little different from the norm Garfield strips. Typically, Jon and Garfield are at odds, with one of them driving the other crazy. But here, they're playing together on a Friday night, and while Garfield tries to make it seem like he doesn't care, he's playing the odd game of darts along with Jon, and it's fair to say that this particular Friday the Night meant more to him than he let on.

Garfield is tricked by a clever mouse
Garfield – November 20, 1994
Garfield's mission is to kill the mouse that lives in Jon's house. To do this, Garfield takes a wind-up toy that looks like a piece of cheese and spins it around the floor near the mouse's hole. However, instead of a mouse coming towards him, a wind-up toy mouse chases the wind-up toy cheese, as if the real mouse inside the hole was matching Garfield's insulting trick with a trick of its own.
What's interesting about this comic is that fans can actually know who this rat is. Ten years earlier, Garfield befriended a mouse named Squeak (Garfield actually named him), and Garfield even worked to keep Squeak safe in Jon's house. Could it be the same mouse? And if so, why does Garfield want to kill him now? Either way, this mysterious mouse got the better of Garfield.

Garfield gets a hilariously perfect dose of karmic justice
Garfield – November 24, 1994
Jon is proudly researching information about the new fish he purchased, clearly excited about the new pet that has been added to the household. A fun fact he learned is that his fish can expand up to fifty times its original size when it feels threatened, and Jon tells this to Garfield. While Jon may have assumed that Garfield was silently listening to him reading aloud as he sat right with the new fish, Garfield was actually experiencing the 'curiosity' that Jon had just read for himself.
Garfield ate the exotic fish, and after swallowing it, the fish did what Jon said it could do and expanded to fifty times its size inside Garfield's stomach. It was horrible of Garfield to eat Jon's new fish, but he certainly paid for it with a sweet dose of karmic justice.

Garfield and Odie are the perfect partners in crime
Garfield – November 27, 1994
As Jon tries to enjoy his burger, he notices Garfield's tail slowly approaching him. Knowing that his food-motivated cat won't stop until lunch given the chance, Jon moves the burger to the other side of the table, all the while not taking his eyes off Garfield's ass. Somehow, Garfield himself shows up where Jon's burger was taken and steals the burger before Jon even knows what's going on. It turns out that 'Garfield's tail' was actually Odie the whole time wearing a fake tail on his head, while helping Garfield steal Jon's lunch.
Garfield may claim to dislike Odie, but this comic alone proves not only that the two make a great team, but that Odie loves Garfield no matter what, and will always be by his side – even if it means join him against Jon. Plus, this comic is just hilarious, which makes it one of the top 10 funniest Garfield comics that just turned 30 years old.
