With the launch of Silent Hill 2 remake, silent Hill is making a surprising return with a new movie in the works and other games. silent Hill has always been one of the most popular horror franchises, with its latest demo, PTreleased in 2014, garnering attention and love from horror fans everywhere. However, since its initial cancellation and Hideo Kojima’s departure from Konami, there has been a downward spiral for the silent Hillwith no new releases or remasters coming out.
But ten years later, silent Hill came back with his Silent Hill 2 remake that did remarkably well. Although this remake was a success, some are wondering what silent Hill it will be the next one to be redone (if there is one). Revisiting the origins of the franchise is a good starting point and remembering the original silent Hillfans may have to accept the harsh reality that silent Hill urgently needs a remake, since repeating silent Hill It’s not a fun ride.

Silent Hill’s graphics don’t work well
Graphics look a little outdated
At the beginning of the PlayStation era, silent Hill it was a scary game with its graphics. Although it lacked the realism that current games have, the terror itself was in the unknown of horror gamescontained in the thick fog. The fog depicted in the game did wonders for the game, hiding monsters within it and shortening the player’s field of vision. As it is now, silent Hill is definitely a product of its time. Although photorealistic games didn’t exist in the 90s, silent Hill the graphics were as real as they would be in a horror game.
However, as with most games, players had to use their imagination to actually make these games work, which helped make silent Hill one of the most terrifying horror games. But now spoiled by the incredibly realistic, silent Hillthe outdated graphics are a real hindrance, especially since the remake proved that its horrors deserve to be seen with the realism that was intended. In 2024, silent Hill is a bit dated by any horror standards, and AI upscaling is definitely not the answer.

Silent Hill has strange and strange dialogue
Awkward dialogue creates awkward moments
PlayStation 1 games never had great voice acting. Even in classics like SSX, Intimidatingor GTAthe voice acting sounded strange or lacked the credibility of a modern game. Until silent Hill 2 had problems with strange and unnatural dialogue between characterslike when Angela and James met. Even the remake has some strange dialogue here and there, especially during conversations between characters. But in the case of Harry Mason, everything seems strange and unnatural.
The script and internal dialogue are notoriously bad in horror games like silent Hill. In the end, Silent Hill 3His most infamous quote is “it’s bread“line. Despite the strange internal and external dialogue, there was something exaggerated silent Hill just as there are about Resident Evilanother game known for its notoriously bad dialogue. Still, intentional exaggeration aside, bad dialogue is bad dialogue.

Combat is a chore in the original Silent Hill
Clumsy combat makes the game less fun
In silent HillWhen encountering enemies, the advice is to run or sneak past, and this advice is given for good reason. silent Hill has an abominably bad combat this seems very clumsy. Movement and camera angles already affect the player’s reaction time, and with the combat being terribly bad, those who attempt to kill every enemy encountered in the game will find themselves at the game over screen again and again.
The only good form of combat in silent Hill is the weapon, which allows for more precise aiming and better timing. Fighting with the knife or metal tube leads to slow reaction times and poor timingwhich increases the complexity of combat. The weapon allows for better reaction time, but ammunition is limited and should be reserved for more difficult enemies.

Silent Hill’s fixed camera angles haven’t aged well
Certain views create an awkward experience
One of the worst parts of the original silent Hill it was the fixed camera angles. Of course, fixed camera angles were common in early horror games (e.g. Resident Evil) and it’s not like they don’t have a purpose. Fixed camera angles add to the atmospheric horrortaking control and awareness away from players and restricting them to a single line of sight. This allowed enemies to appear out of nowhere.
Despite the sense of dread that accompanied camera angles, in older games, this also detracted from immersion because sometimes it was difficult to tell where a character should go or which areas were blocked. This confusion and lack of understanding wasn’t helped by the incredibly low resolution and horrible graphics.

Low-res monster models make Silent Hill less scary
These models look too silly to be taken seriously
A good look silent Hilland the scariest part, are the monsters that originate from it. In Silent Hill 2the monsters encountered are due to the disastrous and broken psyche of James Sunderland. These are the horrors that came from his mind. The original monsters silent Hillhowever, they are voiced by Alessa Gillespie. Alessa Gillespie was a poor child who was bullied, tormented, tortured and burned to give birth to a new god – acts committed by her mother.
The monsters and creatures that manifest in your mind are considered terrifying, and in silent Hillthey were once terrifying creatures. But as graphics improve and developers are able to accurately represent the intended monstrosities, silent Hill starts to look a little sillier over time. That’s not to say they never had an impact or were never scary, but they prove that they are a product of their time.

Silent Hill’s lore is a little too complicated for its own good
Has tradition always been so enigmatic?
For those who are new to silent Hill franchise, the tradition of silent Hill It’s quite complicated. Most silent HillThe story of can be loosely summarized as a city shrouded in fog that has monstrous creatures waiting within it. Even the movie tried to explain parts of the lore, though new and sometimes even old players tend to have difficulty understanding the intricacies.
This does not mean that complex knowledge is not good or necessary. But sometimes, a game’s story can be a bit enigmatic to the audience, especially because silent Hill serves as an introductory chapter to the series. That doesn’t help Silent Hill 2 is different from the original and that the nightmarish city evoked in James’ mind are his own hauntings and manifestations. A well-developed story, silent Hill it will always be a little too enigmatic.

Silent Hill’s Multiple Endings Aren’t All Great
There is an anti-climatic ending
silent Hill is known to have multiple endings depending on certain decisions you make. There is usually a good ending, a bad ending, and a joke ending (silent Hill relies heavily on UFO joke endings). But while the good ending is usually a well-deserved happy ending, the bad ending of the original silent Hill it is cut quite short.
silent HillThe bad ending is super anticlimactic, although it makes sense considering Harry’s sole purpose was to find his beloved Cheryl, and not being able to bring her home causes an empty feeling. Although the intention is clear, a player who has unintentionally lost an item or quest, dedicating hours to the game, deserves a more climactic ending than this. Otherwise, endings like these just leave a bitter taste in players’ mouths, making them never want to touch the game again.
3
Low visibility can be incredibly tedious
Being unable to see is more frustrating than inducing immersion
The lack of visibility is what makes silent Hill the horror game that it is. Resident Evil there are zombies, Dino Crisis There are dinosaurs and silent Hill There’s fog, which makes your mysterious and deadly enemies ten times more terrifying. It’s the fear of the unknown that awakens players new and old.
But the lack of visibility can also make things a little more frustrating than immersion-inducing. A slight visibility is fun, almost no visibility, as seen when it is dark outside silent HillThis is when the game starts to lose its thrill and excitement. Not to mention that the constant ambushing of enemies in the dark and the impossibility of running in a straight line leads to more game-overs, making it more frustrating than anything else.
2
Puzzles can be so difficult that they are no longer interesting
Silent Hill’s puzzles can be a little too difficult
Puzzles are a key component of survival horror games. Think Haunted Land, Resident Evil, Fatal Frameand Clock Tower: These horror games require completing puzzles to move forward. Some puzzles are quite easy and it doesn’t take us a second to think about them, but other puzzles in silent Hill tend to be a little more difficult.
One such tricky puzzle is the infamous Zodiac Puzzle, which has left fans of the original game confused and perplexed as to how to begin completing the puzzle. Another terribly difficult puzzle is the Piano Puzzle, where players have to figure out the correlation of a poem with the piano. While tricky puzzles can be fun, they can often be a hindrance to actual gameplay.making it more frustrating to find out more than anything else. At least that’s how it looked in the original silent Hill.

Enemy levels
Enemy difficulty only increases
A key component silent Hill is that, as there is no leveling system, enemies tend to get harder later. While this is normal for most horror games, silent Hill in particular, it raises the bar substantially without warning.
Increasing difficulty is not uncommon, but for a game with clunky controls, clunky movement, and an absolutely horrible combat system, this difficulty increases exponentially. This almost makes the original silent Hill It’s not enjoyable with how excessively difficult it becomes depending on the trial and error system. The story and atmosphere are the only things that make attacking enemies worth it, although this can sometimes be questionable.
