The title “Sword of Night and Flame” is an homage to a certain fantasy series

George R.R. Martin’s Most Famous Work Gets Clear Respect

sword of night and flame

– a powerful weapon found in the Kariya estate and, apparently, had belonged to the family for many years. This is a legendary blade, its name refers to the connections between the Carian astrologers and the fire giants of the mountain peaks, and it can also be considered as a reference to the wedding of Queen Rennala and Radagon.

Connected

But, of course, the very name of the blade refers to another story, one written by one of Elden Ringwriters George R. R. Martin. Martin’s most famous series. Song of Ice and Fire, shares a naming convention with Sword of Night and Flame, and the story features a conflict that is somewhat similar to that between Rennala and Radagon. The Night King is one of the villains Game of Thrones series, and fire is a predominant theme in all of the books.

Elonora’s Polar Blade comes straight out of Star Wars

The emergence of the Sith’s iconic weapon

Eleanor’s Staff

– One of the most visually striking dual blades in the game. bright red blades on both ends that seem to glow when exposed to blood flames. The history of the blade goes back to Elden Ringdeep knowledge belonging to the former draken knight turned bloody finger. But visually, it might be hard to deny that the weapon is inspired by the hugely popular sci-fi series that has influenced countless other works of fiction over the past few decades.

Star wars has a wide distribution and iconic characters such as Darth Maul are mentioned everywhere in all kinds of franchises. While this sixth blade doesn’t have much in common with Maul’s signature double lightsaber other than appearance, the dual red blades are synonymous with the character at this point.

The Wheel of Giza originated in another FromSoftware game

Bloodborne Fan Favorite Weapons

Wheel Elden Ring Gizas

Players of the previous FromSoftware game, Bloodyprobably experienced some déjà vu upon entering Vulcan Manor. Inquisitor Giza, an NPC invader in the Defiant Fortress, wields this huge weapon with a spinning blade at the end. Wheel of Giza

what is it called, very reminiscent of the cunning weapon from Bloody called a “pinsaw”.

Nicknamed the pizza cutter by fans, this weapon worked similarly to the Giza weapon, with a spinning blade that could be brought towards enemies to rip them to shreds. While Elden Ring the variant is slightly more detailed than its predecessor and indicates that it is an instrument used for torture, it remains the visual and spiritual successor to the powerful weapon.

From Ariandel’s painting to the Caelida swamps

great sword of the godslayer

He can be found at the foot of the divine tower in Caelida, and he lives up to his fearsome name in many ways. The big sword does a lot of damage boasts an impressive black flame buffand has a strange spiral shape at the end. Oddly enough, this weapon seems to be based on weapons from Dark Souls 3specifically from the painted world of Ariandel.

Sir William, a knight in the service of the final boss of this DLC, wields large sword called onyx blade. Like the Godslayer, his blade has a spiral shape and he is capable of engulfing himself in black fire. Even the activation animation for this fire buff is similar to that of the Godslayer’s two-handed sword. This weapon may not just be inspired by the onyx blade; it appears to be an updated version of the same weapon.

Sword in a stone scabbard – a more traditional reference

The sword in the stone has become easier to transport

Admittedly, this reference is not like others on this list, as it is not necessarily from the franchise or another game. Instead sword in stone scabbard

more like A new look at the tale of the “sword in the stone.” featuring King Arthur. Luckily, this sword is a little easier to transport since its stone is the very sheath it is encased in.

Just like in the legend of King Arthur, this sword can eventually be pulled out to form a powerful blade worthy of a monarch. In this case, the sword in the stone scabbard turns into either a sword of night or a sword of light, depending on the players’ choice. But what’s funny is that the weapon can still be used before it leaves the stone prison, albeit with less impressive damage. Check it out in the video above from the YouTuber. Arekkz Gaming.

The Blasphemous Blade owes its existence to the game of the same name

A non-FromSoft game deserves praise

blasphemous blade

is a favorite among Elden Ring players due to high damage and healing factor. For this reason, many are willing to overlook how disgusting it is. But the name of the weapon is actually a direct reference to another game which FromSoftware’s audience may or may not be familiar with.

This game blasphemouswas released by The Game Kitchen back in 2019, and Elden Ring’The developers seem to have drawn inspiration from their own creative endeavors. The game features a Mea Kulp sword wrapped in spikes.and bears some visual resemblance to Rijkaard’s corpse-covered greatsword.

Icon Shield returns to the world of Soulsborne once again

A fresh coat of paint on a familiar design

shield icon

hardly a weapon, but still somewhat of a callback to previous FromSoftware games. Specifically, this shield resembles the judge’s shield from Demon Soulsas well as an ancient dragon large shield from Dark Souls 3.

All three shields have a strange and memorable design. a rectangular wooden plate with a vertical depression in the middle.. While the designs of all three models vary, they generally stick to the same color palette. Using these shields feels somewhat nostalgic, as if you are getting a little protection from old memories.

The great sword returns again as a reference to Berserk

FromSoftware continues to be obsessed with courage

two-handed sword

may seem primitive given its name, but the appearance of the weapon for a long time served as a hint at a certain sword from Berserk. The Berserker has always been a source of inspiration for FromSoft’s creative team, and this huge, seemingly ineffective blade has been used in many of their games.

As the item’s description suggests, the great sword is bulky, wide, thick, and blunt. This matches the popular line from Berserk about the sword Guts wields.which is described as “large piece of ironIt’s a pretty simple reference, but fans love it nonetheless.

The sword that keeps coming back

dark moon great sword

may get a new name in Elden Ringbut the iconic Moonlight two-handed sword won’t fool anyone. This weapon has appeared in every Soulsborne game except Sekiro, as a link to Royal Fieldold game that inspired the original Demon Souls. In this game, the sword can be found in a puddle of maggots, a hidden easter egg for experienced players.

Connected

Since then, it has popped up everywhere: in the form of the tail of Sith the Scaleless, the treasured weapon of the warrior Benhart (though his weapon was a fake), and, infamously, wielded by the beast Ludwig. IN Elden Ringthis is a reward for completing one of the longest NPC quests in the game, and he is as strong as ever.

A large sword with a grafted blade is a clear reference to the Iron Throne

A Less Subtle Tribute to George R.R. Martin

“The Sword of Night and Flame” isn’t Martin’s only reference to his famous fantasy series; That large sword with grafted blade

serves as much more direct connection to his novels and series Game of Thrones. Even those who have never read a page or seen a single episode of the series know about the Iron Throne, the great chair of the ruler of Westeros, made from the melted down swords of defeated enemies. This is the most famous image of the franchise, and this greatsword looks exactly the same.

Even the legends of the grafted blade refer to it to some extent: it is said to have been wielded by a champion so determined to fight that he united the swords of the fallen into a huge blade. This is similar to Aegon the Conqueror’s desire to rule all of Westeros and the unification of the lords he defeated under the Targaryen banner. Elden RingThis story has a lot in common with some of the storylines from ASoIaF, and this sword emphasizes their similarity.
