10 Easy Ways to Overcome Difficult Encounters in Baldur's Gate 3

There is no shortage of challenging encounters in Baldur's Gate 3But they don't all have to be so frustrating or overwhelming, especially when there are relatively easy ways to overcome them. Whether rescuing Mirkon from the pesky Harpies in Secluded Cove or dealing with the demon Raphael in the House of Hope, players have found creative (and simple) tricks that make these encounters much more manageable. Some of these tricks involve taking advantage of environmental objects that provide specific buffs, while others require passing some high Charisma checks.

These methods include taking advantage of unique items, scrolls, or techniques that are not necessarily obvious to the average explorer setting out on their first Sword Coast adventure. As with all things in BG3Making encounters easier will require careful planning, strategizing, and forecasting the future. Here are ten easy ways to get through some of the toughest encounters in the world. Baldur's Gate 3.

10

The isolated cove

Calm emotions, silence and sanctuary

The secluded cove Baldur's Gate 3

Behind Druid's Cove, you will find a group of Harpies luring Mirkon to Secluded Cove as part of the “Investigate the beach“quest. Fortunately, the encounter is much easier if you use Shadowheart or another dedicated Cleric/Bard to cast Calm emotions

on the entire party before entering the fight, effectively negating the effects of the Harpy's song for 10 turns. This spell prevents Humanoids from being Enchanted, the main effect of the Harpy's Attractive Song.

If you have difficulty stopping the Harpies from attracting Mirkon, they can cast Silence

in him (or in the singing Harpy). Another option is to cast Sanctuary on Mirkon, although each spell requires concentrationso having a Bard and a Cleric in the party will benefit this encounter.

Flind and the survivors of Zhent

Illithid mind control goes a long way

Zhent Survivors Baldur's Gate 3

You may encounter the Gnolls on Risen Road early in your adventure, and you'll likely be ill-prepared if they don't know what's coming. However, peacefully approaching the Gnoll leader, Flind, and passing a series of Wisdom tests with Illithid powers can bypass the entire battle, as long as you don't mind a scorched earth approach to the situation.

The first dialogue check results in Flind and the Gnoll patrol storming the cave and killing the Zhent survivors inside, and accompanying Flind could result in a feast with your entire crew and finally, herself. You can withdraw the shipment at this point, without ever engaging in combat.

8

Hammer Hour in Grymforge

This will leave a mark

Hammer Hour in Grymforge Baldur's Gate 3

One of the toughest boss fights in Act 1, Grym will leave you reeling (literally) if you're not aware of his unique superheated condition and, more importantly, how to strategically use the environment to your advantage. Although Grym seems nearly invincible, you can position a party member near the forge lever as a second member. bait Grym through the lava and towards the hammer, attacking itactivating the Prime Target ability – this will cause Grym to attack the last enemy to deal damage.

The lava will affect Grym's Overheated condition, making him vulnerable to damage, and dropping the hammer while it is overheated will knock it down and cause massive damage. Magma Mephits will appear after hitting Grym with the forge hammer, which the remaining party members can handle.

7

Aunt Ethel, Meet the Magic Missile

Magic Missile: Always Works

Aunt Ethel, Meet the Magic Missile Baldur's Gate 3

Arguably the hardest part of Aunt Ethel Hag's fight is during her final phase, where she begins to clone herself, eventually cloning herself as Mayrina. There are a few tricks that make this aspect of the encounter much easier: dunk Mayrina in water to track the Wet debuff condition and bombarding the Hag clones with Magic Missiles

to easily remove them from the fight while keeping the real Witch in focus. As experienced players know, Magic Missile does little damage, but it can't miss.

Since the Witch's clones will disappear if they take any damage, Magic Missile is the perfect spell for the situation. It is also ideal for reducing the health of the real Witch without killing her to obtain the sacred Witch's Hair.

6

Balthazar: a push in the right direction

Bring a strong party member to the Shadowfell with you

Balthazar from Baldur's Gate 3 pointing at the screen in front of the purple flames

While this encounter can be incredibly frustrating, a very easy way to win BG3Shadowfell's Balthazar is simply having a high Strength character like Lae'zel or Karlach push him off the edge. It's even possible to make one of them invisible and do so before the cutscene is triggered with Nightsong. However, participating in the scene and eventual battle will require the group's strategic positioning on the platform and giving Balthazar a strong pushsending him into the abyss.

You will lose some relatively useless items by doing things this way, but It's a small price to pay to get through an otherwise difficult encounter. Thunderwave can also be used to boost him and his undead minions over the edge.

5

Convince Yuurgir to give up everything

He will thank you in the end

Yugirr calling the main character Little Rabbit in Baldur's Gate 3.

Yurgir and his group of Merregon Legionnaires will ambush the group at the Gauntlet of Shar, but if you bring a party member with high charisma To pass some high Persuasion and Insight checks, Yurgir can be tricked into killing himself, bypassing the difficult fight entirely. To make him do the unthinkable, you'll need to successfully make a passive Insight check and discover the “secret” to your contract, then go through a series of 21 Persuasion checks and 21 Charisma checks.

Each successful check results in Yugir killing a tough member of your group and eventually himself. The good news is that tricking Yugirr actually saves him in the end, and he will be available to fight alongside you against Raphael later, after passing yet another high Persuasion check.

4

Defending Halsin's Portal

Hello darkness, my old friend

Astarion, Halsin, and Gale appear in the Astral Plane through a portal, looking at an unseen romantic liaison with utter disgust, in a screenshot from Baldur's Gate 3.

During Bladur's Gate 3In Act 2, as part of lifting the Curse of Shadows, you will have to defend the portal for Halsin while he retrieves Thaniel from the Shadowfell. An incredibly effective strategy that makes this fight much easier is to cast Darkness

on the portal. Darkness has a unique effect that Prevents ranged attacks that enter or leave the cloud. This will be very useful when defending the portal, as enemies need to be within melee range to deal any damage.

Another crucial strategy for this encounter is to have Shadowheart (or another Cleric or Bard) cast Radiant Spiritual Guardians

and run around the area to eliminate smaller enemies that appear throughout the meeting. Wall of Fire

also works great for this encounter, but all of these spells require Concentration, so be sure to use separate party members when casting.

3

Disintegrate Lorroakan, trap the elementals

Make good use of these rare scrolls

Disintegrate Lorroakan, bind the elementals Baldur's Gate 3

This infamous encounter in Ramazith's Tower will be incredibly frustrating without a solid plan – and some helpful scrolls. First, make sure a caster in the group has access to Disintegrate

or a Scroll of Disintegrate

can be purchased at The Bibliophile in Cidade Baixa. Using this on Lorroakan will take away pretty much all of his health, if not kill him instantly.

The second important step here is to launch Planar Binding

in as many Lorroakan elemental invocations as possible. Any Bard, Cleric, Mage, or Druid can cast Planar Bind at level 9, so Is it possible to have each party member tie up all elementals in this fight?. ONE Planar Binding Parchment

It can also be purchased, looted, or stolen from Lady Esther on the Rosymorn Monastery Trail in Act 2.

2

Ansur: The Undead Dragon

Crystals are the answer to Ansur's charged attacks

Ansur, the undead dragon, is in Baldur's Gate 3.

Anyone attempting to defeat Ansur the undead dragon has likely fallen victim to his devastating charged lightning attacks, but the environment can be used to the party's advantage in this arena.

The crystal shards scattered throughout the dragon's lair can actually be used as a defensive buffapplying crystalline skin when attacked, which gives him a two-turn resistance to certain elemental effects, including Ansur's Lightning.

It will also be very useful to bring a caster with access to the Dimensional Door and Globe of Invulnerability

or scrolls for these spells. Although the crystals provide a two-turn resistance to electrical damage, the encounter will still be challenging without some mobility and defensive tactics. Use the Dimensional Door to move the group greater distances and the Globe of Invulnerability as a refuge if something goes wrong.

1

Exploding Rafael's Pillars of Hope

Place explosives around the pillars before the fight starts

Raphael and the House of Hope in the background in Baldur's Gate 3

One of the most challenging encounters BG3Raphael's House of Hope fight will be incredibly difficult without knowing how the room's pillars work. Each Soul Pillar gives Raphael various buffs and perks, but You can easily bypass this encounter's challenge by placing explosives like Runepowder or Smokepowder Barrels around pillars before the fight begins. Then, simply blow up the barrels to destroy the pillars and negate most of Raphael's power.

While these strategies certainly make difficult encounters much easier, they still require careful planning and knowledge. Depending on your difficulty level, these methods may also need to be adjusted slightly, especially with legendary skills in Honor mode this will make tough fights like Ansur even more difficult. Whether it's finally putting those ancient scrolls to use, taking advantage of the environment, or using some cunning tricks, there are plenty of ways to make difficult encounters easier in Baldur's Gate 3.
