Notice! This article contains SPOILERS for Agatha throughout.
Rio Vidal could be more than it seems Agatha all the timeand the Marvel Cinematic Universe series has teased this, with many clues connecting the seemingly original character to Lady Death from Marvel Comics. The cast of Agatha all the time introduces some new witches to the MCU. The series is doing a great job keeping up WandaVision and opening up the magical corner of the franchise in exciting ways.
Agatha all the time featured important revelations, such as the fact that Joe Locke’s “Teen” is actually Billy Maximoff, one of Scarlet Witch’s children. After Billy’s true identity was finally revealed, the MCU series may have another big surprise in store. Rio Vidal, by Aubrey Plaza, is one of the most powerful characters in the seriesand through menacing teases in what could be considered one of the MCU’s best TV shows, she could become one of Marvel Comics’ most interesting players, Death himself.

Rio Vidal entered the witches’ road by Mrs. Hart’s grave
An interesting way to take Rio to the witches’ road
The Witch Road is a very dangerous place. As Agatha and her coven journey in search of power and more, perhaps only one of them will make it to the end of the Witches’ Road alive. The first character to die in the magical place was Debra Jo Rupp’s Mrs. Hart.who was actually not a green witch as Agatha claimed, but her neighbor Sharon Davis.
Mrs. Hart died in the first trial the coven encountered on the Road of the Wicthes, and her death served as the perfect way to involve Rio Vidal de Plaza in the mission Agatha, Billy, and the rest of the witches were on. The clan summoned a green witch to the Road of Witches, and Rio suspiciously emerged not from where they did the spell, but from Mrs. Hart’s grave. Leaving where a character just died could be a nod to Rio Vidal’s connection with Death.

Rio said she “was around” when she was called up
The explanation of the character is fragile
Continuing the theme of Mrs. Hart’s death after the first Witch Road trial, Rio Vidal gave a funny explanation of why she was the one who appeared when the clan summoned a green witch. According to Aubrey Plaza’s Marvel character, she simply happened to be nearby when the witches asked for a replacement for Ms. For a show that creates multiple mysteries and plot twists, this statement doesn’t come across as a simple moment.
Agatha’s expertise was needed to open the door, so Rio just being near the mysterious location doesn’t make sense.
It took Agatha’s clan some time to open the Witches’ Road, as they had to chant to pass. Billy Maximoff didn’t know how to get there himself, and the other witches were afraid of the Road or thought it was just a myth. Agatha’s expertise was needed to open the door, so Rio just being near the mysterious location doesn’t make sense. However, if she is Lady Death, Rio could be on the Witch’s Road to collect Sharon Davis’ soul.

Rio says he will get their bodies
A very deadly statement from the Marvel character
Rio Vidal had some interesting lines in Agatha all the time which teases her possible reveal as the MCU’s version of Lady Death. One of the most direct quotes comes in episode 4. In an effort to look better in front of the clan, Agatha manipulates Rio into talking about her true intentions to accompany him with them on a microphone, so everyone can hear.
The Aubrey Plaza witch then says she can watch Agatha do what she does best, which is kill other witches, as she has been doing for centuries. Then, Rio says: “You get your power and I get my bodies.” Rio has no problem with Agatha killing the other witches, but interestingly she wants them to die but won’t do it. As Death, Rio could be getting more souls for herself thanks to Agatha’s actions.

Agatha tells Rio “no” when Billy gets hurt
The witch from Aubrey Plaza became interested in the urgent situation
Episodes before Joe Locke’s character was revealed to be Billy Maximoff the still mysterious “Teen” almost died as a result of the second trial the clan faced on the Witch Road. To free herself from a curse plaguing her family, Alice and the witches sing her mother’s version of the song that opens the doors to the Witch’s Road, which includes a protection spell.
Unfortunately, Teen is injured during the ordeal by a shard of glass. The situation worsens, with the character almost dying while the clan watches. This is where Rio Vidal’s Lady Death theory gets another interesting clue. Although Rio does not do anything directly to Teen, she looks at him suspiciously, as if apparently anticipating his death. Noticing the way Rio is looking at Teen, Agatha turns to her and pleads, saying, “No“, which sounds like she’s asking Rio not to take him away.

Rio revealed a key moment in his past with Agatha
Nicholas’ risk of everything complicates things
Agatha all the time established from the show’s first episode that Agatha and Rio have a past. When Agatha was apparently telling Rio not to take Teen awayThis may have awakened pain from the past in her. When the witches were sitting around the campfire after Teen was saved, they started talking about the scars they each carry.
While all the other witches meant physical scars, Rio offers a different answer. According to her, Agatha is her scar. Although she doesn’t say it directly, she defines the woman who is her scar by a situation in the past, where Rio had to do something she didn’t want to do, but she did it anyway because it was her job. Agatha all the time revealed that Agatha Harkness’ son Nicholas Scratch died as a child. The show implies that Rio took Nick’s soul.

Rio laughed at a mention of death
A not-so-subtle reference to the Lady Death theory
Agatha all the time episode 5 did wonders for the theory that Rio Vidal is secretly the MCU’s Lady Death. The Witches’ Road trial featured in the included episode communicating with spirits through a Ouija board. This setup was perfect for some of Lady Death’s clues to come true, and Agatha all the time It wasn’t subtle at all with one of them, as Rio literally laughed out loud at a direct provocation.
When the coven first tried to speak to the spirit, the letters slowly came together to form “DEATH”. As soon as the word was completed, Rio Vidal laughed. There really are no other ways at this point, with all the clues from the past, to interpret this in any way other than Rio realizing that the spirit couldn’t be Death, as Plaza’s character is the only true Lady Death.

Rio revealed that he hates ghosts
A significant tease that she is death
During the Ouija session, Rio Vidal also said something else that points to her possible secret identity as Lady Death. Agatha all the time has examined each of its characters closely, with a greater focus on Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha and Joe Locke’s Billy. In this specific episode, Agatha’s past comes back to haunt her in some important ways. The biggest is through the mother.
After she tried to kill Agatha, the witch took Evanora Harkness’s magic and killed her and her coven. When Agatha’s mother appeared as a ghost, Rio said: “That’s a ghost. I hate ghosts.” Like Death, it would make sense that Rio wouldn’t like ghosts. Although her mission is to ensure that those who die go to the afterlife, ghosts remain tied to their past lives due to unfinished business, which would make Lady Death’s job more difficult.

Rio Vidal was the only one who was not in the group after the third trial
A clue to the death of an important lady due to an event
One of the most interesting details supporting the Mistress Death theory is Rio’s mysterious disappearance after the coven finished the third trial. Notably after Evanora’s spirit leaves her daughter Agatha kills Alice, taking away her powers in what she claims was an accident. As Alice’s body falls, Rio can be seen looking at it suspiciously. The character then looks at Agatha, but does not follow her as she leaves the trial room.
When the rest of the witches follow Agatha outside, Rio is nowhere to be found. Like Lady Death, Aubrey Plaza’s character could have stayed behind to ensure Alice’s soul was guided where it needed to go. This disappearance marks the second time Rio has done something suspicious following the death of a clan member, as well as his connection to Mrs. Hart’s grave.

Agatha All Along Mid-Season Trailer Features an Interesting Rio Vidal Quote
There are more surprises in the MCU series
There is a clue related to the Lady Death theory that has not yet appeared in the series. Agatha all the timeThe mid-season trailer confirmed that Joe Locke’s character was Billy Maximoff before the series’ flashback episode delved into how that was possible. The trailer also brought some never-before-seen photos of Rio Vidal and Aubrey Plaza’s character isn’t just menacing in the new footage, but she utters a phrase that connects to her being Death.
In the trailer, Rio says: “In the end, all paths lead to me.” Well, this appears to be a clear reference to Rio being the MCU’s version of Lady Death. There are only a few things that are certain in life, one of which is that all living things will die one day. Rio’s words make it the end of everyone’s path – death.

Billy Maximoff may have been the “black heart” of Agatha’s clan instead of Rio
The MCU series created two possible interpretations
The final clue so far comes from the latest episode of the MCU series. Agatha all the time episode 6 was mainly focused on Billy Kaplan/Maximoff’s backstory. During one of the sequences set in the past, Marvel Studios revealed that Billy could have been the dark heart of Agatha’s clan instead of Rio Vidal. In the first episode of the show, Rio told Agatha that his heart was black and beat for her.

When Lilia Calderu drew a black heart as part of her clan’s names, Agatha immediately thought it was Rio and called Mrs. Hart. However, the latest Agatha all the time episode saw Billy’s boyfriend Eddie text him a suspicious detail. Instead of sending Billy a normal red heart emoji, he used a black one. If Billy was always meant to be the mysterious clansman Lilia drew, then Rio has to be Death. It would make sense for Lady Death not to be part of the clan since she is not a person.
